I don't know if you've noticed, but CV's are actually weaker with the update that restricted them to only having one squadron in the air at one time. CV's used to be able to send aircraft over the entire map. It's what CV's did, throughout history, and it was their one main strength. Wargaming apparently doesn't like history though, or maybe they just like dumbing things down for players that cannot multi-task with carriers. For a company that likes to base warships on historical accuracy, this is ..... pathetic? No CV in history would ever only have one single squadron of aircraft in the air at one time.
Cvs are weaker, they have less per tier now. Tier 6, tier 8 and tier 10, they are often up tiered, and limited to one squadron at a time, also you cant control your ship and squadron at the same time. For those of us who were cv captains they took every strenght away. I actually stopped playing the game now because you took away half of what made the game fun, CVs and dds were my favorite.

some people think that fighters can be a distraction for AA and share the damage with the bombers, hence, reducing the damage on the bombers. It might be true on the RTS mode but I'm not sure since the rework.

That fighter drop with the rocket squad is to divide the AA between them cause you can't prioritize the attack squadron. It's very common in high tier battles............but that was cringe worthy to the bitter end. I think he was saying BANZAI
...except that's not how it works. All AA shoots at each squadron. No, IMO, it was for a more sinister reason. The Ryujo and the Atlanta were in league with each other to feed plane kills for a mission.

I faced a Hiryu once in my Cleveland. I was a bottom tier cruiser providing AA escort for my team's Amagi. The Hiryu sent his entire strike package of two dive bomber and two torpedo bomber squadrons straight in at that Amagi... right across the bow of my AA-spec Cleveland. I popped Defensive Fire and his squadrons fell out of the sky. One plane survived long enough to drop its ordnance and it missed. I did not see another plane on my half the map the entire rest of the game. That Hiryu wanted nothing to do with me after that.
Swear to god, the first battle I played after watching this Jingles video, I shot down 52 planes in my Pensacola mostly from one Ryojo who sent wave after wave after me. My most planes shot down before this in any ship was 28.
It must be something with Ryujo captains. I was just in my HMS Furious and the same Ryujo kept sending planes at me. Even after 47 plane kills, and he just...kept...trying.
To be fair to the Ryujou, the only real option for avoiding the number of flak bursts a ship like the Atlanta puts out is to send your planes to the other side of the map. Attempting a strike through the AA of a higher-tier ship is remarkably similar to playing a bullet-hell shooter without the tiny hitbox that makes games of that genre winnable. That said, there were other targets on the map that didn't have a dedicated AA monster to hide behind.
Finally bought a digital version of Neptune's Inferno and discovered the fate of the Atlanta. So hereby a thank you for recommending that book looooong time ago Jingles.
Indeed, love my Atlanta too (still have 68% wr and ~2100bxp avrg with, on nearly 40games played in since January 2019 where I bought it... that’s nice 😊 and credits incomes are quite good too). TOP TIP about captains skill: Perso, i use same captain for Worcester and Atlanta (19skill pts), same kind of ships, he shines in both ships the same way. Shared between 2 ships (a standard line and a premium) a similar captain is a very good trick in WoWS, as long as u make skills for both ships, it works great. Others examples of shared command: Richelieu with Jean Bart Bismarck with Tirpitz Asashio with shimakaze Fletcher with Black Etc etc etc... Many binômes easy to make if u have collected lots of Premiums. It’s the best way to get faster many ships full skilled with top captains (and management required to slide captains between their both ships is négligeable) 👍
This is about my first game back after the rework. 37 planes later and I’m finally in chat like, “dude, it’s still a North Carolina.” I think the influx of new players to cv’s resulted in a bunch of people who didn’t know which ships were AA monsters and just attacked whatever.
YMMV, but the extra range for your main batteries in the Atlanta you get from AFT isn't really useful range. The only ships you're likely to hit at that range with how slow your shells travel, are BBs sailing in straight lines.
I’ve met some people like that ryujo, one i was with a friend and we liked to play both cleveland and provide air defense to our team, and 2 aircraft carriers were rushing us with everything they had... but the cleveland doesn’t care, my friend was fairly new to the game and asked me « why are they attacking us ? Is there something i dan’t see about this ? » « Nope they are just stupid »
I had a mission to shoot down around 30 Aircraft I think, and the only ship that would qualify was the Atlanta and it took me like 10+ games (with CVs) to achieve that. This is just idk how to feel about this.
This reminds me of a game i had in the alabama, a ranger had something against me and kept throwing planes at me, all getting shot down, ranger managed to launch 1 torpedo at me, but it missed. I ended the game on full hp with about 30 plane kills. I even told the ranger in chat to not target me but he kept coming
The carrier was literally reenacting the Japanese Carrier Air Arm's experiences during WWII. impaling themselves repeatedly on American AA defenses, lol.
I was originally sympathetic to the Ryojo, because I haven't really gotten along well with CVs now either (not because I think they're bad, I'm just bad with them) but theres only so many times you can bang your head against a wall before you realise the source of your headache...

Looking at the title, having recently gotten into Team Fortress 2, I can say that killing the guy who killed you, or someone else who just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time as you die is very satisfying.
Atlanta: It's impossible to get more than 60 plane kills since the rework in a one CV match.

I think AA is applied evenly now so it doesn't matter if there are more planes of a different squadron type

I think the CV was trying to follow the "Throw enough at the wall and some will stick" but didn't realize the wall is teflon coated
This is a great map for the Atl. I've had a few epic matches there. So many low islands with so much of the map still in range.
Most i got in the atlanta was 49 pre-rework with 2 carriers just sending all their planes right over me on autopilot. This is something else.
