    What a neat.... appliance. 😉 I've never seen one before. How cool! Great job aging it. ❤ Not sure on placement. It didn't seem at home in any of the spots you put it. What about outside on the ground? Like someone stole it but decided it was too bulky to carry. But don't get rid of it! Once other things go into the shoppe, the proper placement might present itself. Loved the video! Thanks for posting!

    I know I'm late to the party and your end product is terrific, but it seems to me you made a lot of work for yourself by starting with one large block of clay. Wouldn't it have been easier, and faster to start with flat pieces like you do when building your furniture? A flat rectangle for the back, a flat piece for the left side, a shortened piece for the coffee pot side, then one for top, one for the bottom and a thicker rectangle for the center divider? I hope that's understandable.... Like I said, your coffee maker looks terrific, but it took a long while for you to dig out the clay from the large block. By assembling slabs, you eliminate the digging.
    I do love your videos and after five days of binge watching, I've seen almost all of them. I particularly like your method of making aged bricks. Thanks for sharing your talent with all of us.

    • @BentleyHouseMinis
      @BentleyHouseMinis  5 років тому

      Yes for sure it would be easier. I am still pretty new in polymer clay so I am growing my skills each time I try something. Any and all suggestions are welcome! This was one of my first things I show here on youtube and I can definitely look back on a few ways to make this easier! lol. Thanks so much for watching my videos and I am so glad you are enjoying them!!

    I think it should go on the floor, because it has a sort of dented, battered look, like it's been kicked and shoved around. For your next appliance, what about showing a panel pried off, with ripped out wires? Like someone's salvaged copper or something from it. I also suggest an old cash register, thoroughly ransacked and abandoned!

    • @BentleyHouseMinis
      @BentleyHouseMinis  6 років тому

      I LOVE that idea!! I can already see it in my head :) I think I will make it from paper (which I probably should have done this time) and could easily tear off panels that way. Thank you!

    Putting your clay in the freezer for about 10-15 minutes does help from up your clay,I do the same cause my hands are naturally warmer which makes my clay to soft so it works for me too.I plan on making the same breakfast machine for a vintage travel trailer in the near future :0)

    Always enjoy your tutorials and even pick up a tip or too along the way. I'm sorry you struggled with it as I too am polymer clay challenged so I know the frustration. I think it looks great and I like the unit to sit to the right of the window on the counter. There has to be an element of creative expression when making miniatures to capture the essence of what it is you're creating and what you hope the viewer to visualize. Referring to comment by Jenny Corey, while I believe was meant to be constructive was a bit harsh in saying it didn't belong in the piece. Without it, this is an abandoned what?

    • @BentleyHouseMinis
      @BentleyHouseMinis  6 років тому

      Lol I love the phrase "polymer clay challenged"... yes that is me right now! But I will keep trying and learning. I didn't take her comment harshly as I was having my own doubts as well. I may attempt another type of coffee appliance in the future as I agree that it needs to have some coffee evidence somewhere lol ;)

    I think you should place it to the right of the window next to the outlet. Also since the room is open to the outside you might want to add like a birds nest, hornets nest, mud dauber and/or bird poo. How about a mouse hole with 2 beady red eyes in it? You just need to create the illusion of an inhabitant not an actual mouse or rat; you could use actual beads for the eyes. A wall cabinet falling off the wall?

    • @BentleyHouseMinis
      @BentleyHouseMinis  6 років тому +1

      Thank you for the suggestions! I definitely do want some wild life inhabitants in my scene :) And I like the idea of a cabinet falling off the wall... too bad I am almost out of wall lol

    Sounds like your blade needs sharpening a bit. Get the extra fine wet&dry sanding paper cut of a piece fold it in half with the sand paper inside and run it over the edge a few times this will help to sharpen the edge again. This is the best way of extending the life of the blade for as long as you can.
    Lol I am so glad I was not the only one who thought it looked like you were using cheese around it 😹😹😹😹😹
    It looks great even with upside down writing 😹😹😹😹😹

    • @BentleyHouseMinis
      @BentleyHouseMinis  6 років тому

      You are probably right Angela! I always change my blade before cutting paper or cardboard but I have not perfected my clay check list yet lol. Thank you for the kind words!!

    • @dawsie
      @dawsie 6 років тому

      Bentley House Minis I use to replace my blades all the time until I worked out that I could keep them in good condition with the extra fine wet&dry paper it keeps the blade edge nice and sharp 😊
      Your right about putting the clay in the freezer this always helps when it comes canes as I find it helps with slicing extra fine slices. Same goes for clay that needs to have nice sharp edges. 😊 these are all things you learn the more you work with clay🤗
      I have some times done mini bakes to firm up the clay once I have the shape this allows me to do more detailed work on the item in question like smoothing clay around feet and buttons. This does not hurt the clay once you have all the detailed work done then you can remake bake for the full time. In my case I put in at a slightly lower temp and bake for double the time. This in fact makes the clay stronger when doing this. I have found that sticking the the recommended times and temps has in most cases been to little for some projects for something like the item you just made I would have baked for around hour and half and this would ensure that it was baked to it’s full strength.have a great week end coming your way now can not believe it’s already Saturday morning 😹😹😹 where did the week go 😹😹😹

    • @BentleyHouseMinis

      Bentley House Minis 🤗 your welcome Ava, I just wish when I first started out with clay all those many years ago I had the same help 😹 where I live I am the only one in town who,first started with the clay since then 2 more people have now started 😹😹 I know that with the blades it started to cost a lot of money as they would blunt so quickly 😿 it was Dad who showed me the trick on how to fix the blades and extend their working life. I have not bought a new blade now in over 2 years 😹😹

      If you're ever interested in pla plate, Ara, HMS2 works with it a lot in their hand-made miniatures (it's mostly all visual, the Bio page explains that he/she doesn't speak English well enough to interract). They seem to have much more access to some brilliant model-making supplies in Asia.

    Dear Ara, If you don't mind (in case you want to keep working with polymer clay in your projects), I follow three channels you may be interested (in case you don't know them yet): SugarCharmShop, AkameruKawaii and Sandrartes. They work with polymer clay, too. Sandra uses a hot air blower when she needs the clay to be hard/in position to work with it. And Akameru made a dresser using this clay.

    It's no reflection on your work (which is always exceptional), but IMHO this item is a domestic appliance, not a piece that belongs in the busy hospitality industry. Appliances which are too big, heavy, cumbersome or just too permanent to have been stolen may be more appropriate for an abandoned cafe scene. Maybe something like a 'Birko' boiling water unit on the wall over the sink, or a built-in catering-appropriate cooking setup down 1 wall, (with industrial flat hotplate, deep fryer & underbench griller/toaster). One of those long refrigerated counters with the glass & metal where they display cakes etc. would be perfect. I think even the large glass-doored soft drink fridges would have been stolen, so something so small would be either long gone or smashed to smithereens. It's only my opinion & your piece is way better than anything I've made, but the sides feel a little chunky - I find myself wondering just how thick 12:1 scale would make the sides in life size. Tanja from Sugar Charm Shop has a few appliance vids & also a blog that may be useful to add to your reference info about the clay medium.

    • @BentleyHouseMinis
      @BentleyHouseMinis  6 років тому +1

      I think my problem is that I haven't sat down and decided the "story" behind this piece and its left me floundering on the details. While making this I was thinking it could perhaps be a small family business and they just grabbed stuff from their grandmas house to start up a coffee shop... ha! But maybe that was just me trying to have a good reason to make this weird appliance. I think I need to do a bit more research and planning the the future builds will fit more seamlessly! I do plan to make a display counter as you suggested. That may be my next piece :)

    • @joannecarroll5504
      @joannecarroll5504 6 років тому

      I guess I looked at it from the perspective of having worked in the hospitality industry & just assumed you were going after the same sort of feel that Lori Nix & Kathleen Gerber have done in their post-apocalyptic miniature photography. I shouldn't have assumed, when it all comes down to it, this is your project & only you have the right to say what it is going to be.

    • @BentleyHouseMinis
      @BentleyHouseMinis  6 років тому

      Joanne Carroll I hope my comment didnt sound like I didnt appreciate your view point. I definitely do! Esp if you worked in the business. I was just saying I don't have my head together in any direction with this project and probably need to do more research and planning. The more opinions and view points the better... it helps me form my final vision on these things I am unsure of. I always love hearing from you!

    • @joannecarroll5504
      @joannecarroll5504 6 років тому

      No, not at all - you're more open to input & to learning than anyone I've ever known. It was just some things I meant to say in my original comment, but as usual, I gas-bagged on forever & it began to look like an essay, so I'd cut it short. I realised afterwards that my comment appeared critical without the context of everything I'd meant to say. Looking forward to your next vid :) .(Edit) Forgot to mention the reason I felt this piece was domestic & inappropriate, was that the coffee pot only holds 2 cups & the hotplate only has room to cook 1 small meal at a time, so it couldn't feed a whole table at once, making multiple tables impossible. It couldn't provide the quantity of coffee that you Americans drink, tea only requires boiling water but coffee needs a proper set-up, we always had drip-filter machines going & each one had a 12-cup pot brewing & another one already brewed on the top hotplate at mealtimes. We never had an Espresso machine as it didn't cater to our demographic (& it was before coffee got fashionable) which was mostly tea drinkers & a coffee after dinner, but that's something else you could consider - if it wasn't small enough to steal LOL. :)

    • @BentleyHouseMinis
      @BentleyHouseMinis  6 років тому +1

      It is definitely something I am thinking through. I want to write "the story" of this place before I make anything else. I think whatever the story I will still make a larger coffee machine because you're right ... no coffee shop would survive on 2 cups! LOL I will probably still stick the machine somewhere on the floor... maybe a nod to a small start-up. That's why I think putting a story here will help. Its easy with the Addamses because the story is already written!

  • @jennycorey8968

    In your reference photo, it looks like the indentation on the top is a little griddle, not a place to put the coffee pot. I know this was a struggle and I love everything you do, but I'm not sure this piece is worthy of the project. For one thing, surely someone would have walked off with that thing if it had been left there.

    • @BentleyHouseMinis
      @BentleyHouseMinis  6 років тому +1

      Jenny Corey yes you are right. I should have shared some of the other photos I looked at too... some were griddles and some were warmers. I agree with you a bit too which is why I added that option in the poll. I have other projects it could work for in the future! Thanks for the input!

    Unfortunalty I think it's a little too big and bright for the scene despite how good it is! Its drawing too much attention. Also a stand alone appliance would have been taken long ago so doesn't seem as realistic. I love this project tho, its so creative.

    • @BentleyHouseMinis
      @BentleyHouseMinis  6 років тому

      Thank you for your input Katie. Whats funny is I probably made it smaller than it really should have been but I agree it does look large in there.
