I am the one that requested Voctave so thank you for making my day!! They don’t get enough love and I had a feeling you would love them. They are an insanely talented group and their arranger is a musical genius. Not sure if anyone else mentioned it but most of them sing at Disney. I hope you will react to more. My favorites are Disney Love Medley with Kirstin from PTX, Disney Heroes and Villains medley featuring the men, The Great Movie Medley… Someone Like You (from Jekyll and Hyde), You Will Be Found (from Dear Evan Hansen) and for Christmas you absolutely must react to O Come All Ye Faithful where EJ kills it and Mary Did You Know where they feature the writer of the song! They usually make me cry! ❤

I love "Someone Like You"--it's fabulous. I also like "Remember Me" (from the Disney movie "Coco"). It's quite different in that it isn't completely a capella. It has both a capalla and a part with instruments.

I LOVE a cappella. I follow all the 'big' groups. I LOVE Pentatonix, Home Free, VoicePlay and others. I think Voctave is the absolute BEST group vocally. The arranger (and tenor) Jamey is a genius. The performers are, without exception, spectacular. They are simply the best. You said, "they are right up there with..." I disagree. Te other groups are right up there with Voctave. The others may have more subscribers, and may be more popular, but this group sounds the best. They regularly bring me to tears with their heavenly harmonies. You HAVE to check out more from this group.

I love Voctave. They are simply the best vocal musicians anywhere. Jamey is a master arranger. They are great live too. Ashley Espinoza(Mulan singer) is my favorite voice on the planet.

One of my favorite things on UA-cam is to watch people’s jaw drop when they react to voctave for the first time!

The thing is that there is a lot of people who can hit these different notes, that these people are singing. The truly impressive thing is that everyone in this group is able to sing lead and be backing singers and be on point, and make it sound completly effortless. That is where you really can hear how good they are. When Kate Lott is going from the highest of high, to singing backing vocals in half a second, without any kinds if restraint in her voice at all, that is the real beauty. Or when you hear how the basses are building and building untill you almost cant bear it, and then being so very soft in no time.

Maria, I'm so glad you've discovered Voctave!! I am a total Home Fry and really enjoy PTX and VP, but for me Voctave has mastered vocal perfection like no other! Perhaps because they don't have percussion/beatboxing, their vocals really stand out.
Each arrangement is matched to the individuals voice by the incomparable Jamey Ray (one of their tenors, who also arranges for PTX among others and is a music professor). Their rich harmonies, layering and especially dynamics are perfection. The group has grown from 8 to 11 voices and their ability to go from a pin-drop to full volume is quite remarkable, thus they can fill all the parts and BGVs. They are a part-time group - as most are professional musicians in their own right, many of them are/have been in The Voices of Liberty at Epcot - as such they don't release as many videos as other a cappella groups, but EVERY one that they've got is worth a listen.
Not surprisingly they have done a number of Disney songs and medleys like this one. To get a good idea of what the guys can do check out one of their most recent videos, Disney Heroes and Villains. Another you might like, probably their most watched at 33M views (!) features Kirsten from PTX and Jeremy Michael Lewis (her then fiancé).
They have THE BEST Christmas music (carols like O Come, All Ye Faithful; and funny ones too, i.e. the Grinch), and also do a number of Broadway-style songs. Since you loved the Home Free/Peter Hollens collaboration of I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, another MUST (done during Covid) is Voctave's cover/upgrade of You Will Be Found. Also, they just released Somewhere a couple of weeks ago, Jamey realized the song had 11 distinct phrases and so arranged the piece so each member could be featured; it's amazing! Finally, their Prince of Egypt Medley is perhaps their BEST, although it's currently audio only, honestly you won't care - it's a masterpiece!
Looking forward to watching you react to more music by this fantastic vocal group. Thx!

Every singer in Voctave is insanely skilled. Plus, as you noted in your review, they're not trying to outdo each other. Each singer knows where they fit within the song and they support their soloists and blend perfectly together. Their arranger, Jamey Ray, is world-class and arranges many of their songs with specific singers in the group in mind. It's a recipe that really works! With Voctave, the whole is definitely greater than the sum of its parts!! Keep reacting to Voctave! You're going to love this ride! Subscribed.

Very nice reaction, and a quick heads up to go with it; Disney knows about Voctave, The video is titled, "Disney Halloween Mash-up (featuring Voctave)". The video appears to be from years ago.

You will NOT BE DISSAPOINTED by ANY of Voctave's songs. They've changed a few members over the years, but they've been a thing since around 8 years ago!

The Swingles and The Real Group are both great A Cappella groups I'd recommend checking out. Doesn't matter wether you record reactions. Both have been around for decades. One from London and the other from Sweden. They're considered the gold standard where A Cappella is concerned. Not many people do reactions to either group.

The gentleman standing second from the far left on the screen is Jamey Ray. He is the founder of the group, a beautiful tenor -- and the arranger of ALL of Voctave's music. Most if not all of the members of the group are current or former cast members at Disney World, singing for the Voices of Liberty at Epcot or one of the barbershop quartets. While I enjoy all acapella groups, Voctave by far is the most trained group of singers in the genre. The high voice is Kate Lott, who is a stratospheric coloratura soprano -- her range and command of her voice is truly remarkable. I've had the pleasure of seeing Voctave live on tour on several occasions -- and they are just as good life as the are in the recording studio.

I also requested this and thought you'd love it. Thanks for reacting to it. I absolutely love Voctave (yes, you pronounced it correctly). If you'd like to hear more, just about anything they do is wonderful. The "Disney Heroes and Villains Medley" features the men of Voctave doing the solos and it's worth a listen. I love their "Great Movie Medley" (a tribute to John Williams). I think Voctave is very under-rated and I don't understand why they aren't as well-known as VoicePlay and Home Free and Pentatonix. Speaking of VoicePlay, they have a "Little Mermaid Medley" that I absolutely love! Since you like the music from "The Little Mermaid" (and who doesn't?), you'll likely enjoy that if you've not already done it (I don't remember you reacting to it).

To have their signature acapela choir sound, you must have some ladies in there to cover soprano and alto.😉

  • @davehertle

    1) Kate Lott, High Soprano, Yes she can sing high and soft at the same time.
    2) Tiffany Coburn, also Soprano, often sings with a smile on her face.
    3) Sarah Whittemore, Alto, I see her as having the heart of the group,
    4) Ashley Espinoza, Alto/Soprano, Such a sweet voice
    5) Chrystal Johnson, 2nd Alto and capable of contralto to soprano range.

Loved your reaction. welcome to the Voctave rabbit hole. So so so many favorites!
I suggest the next one be Disney Heroes and Villians Medley only because it highlights the guys like this one did for the ladies and you get to hear all their talented voices.
Then I would go for Someone Like You featuring Jody McBrayer, You will be found, and The Prince of Egypt Medley (my favorite though there is not video of this just an audio)
my family got to see them two years ago in concert and it was a lovely time!

I love Voctave! They're Christmas numbers are phenomenal. My favorite of theirs is "Someone Like You"
Some interesting info: EJ Cardona is amazing! He has featured sung with Voiceplay. So has his little brother, Omar, on many occasions including my personal VP favorite, Dream On. Many of Voctave's singers have or do sing with Voices of Liberty at Disney... fun little crossover, so did Austin Brown at one point and there is a video with him and many of the current Voctave group singing a long time ago in Voices of Liberty.

Subscribed! Nice reaction! This medley showcases the women - "Disney Heroes and Villains Medley" showcases the men. Check it out! Also if you want one that will absolutely hit you hard in the feels (and this is a Christmas song - so you might want to save it for the Holidays) check out "Where Are You Christmas?", which features Ashley Espinoza (who sang "Reflections" in this medley so beautifully) and her young son, Gael. All of Voctave's Christmas repertoire is absolutely breathtaking and every one of their Disney song videos will blow you away. Basically, if it's from Voctave it is going to be magnificent! They are just that great on everything they do.

And I'm sorry, as a musician, I see Pentatonix as a gimmick compared to Voctave. Around Christmas time, check out their version of Mary, Did You Know. Also, my very favorite of theirs is "Someday" from Hunchback.

Yes. At the time that “Someday” came out with Voctave, tension was very high around the nation. They can convey a message through music and everyone can take something away from it. The pandemic brought out “You will be found”. Uniting people around the world in song. Voctave is amazing.
