It's not bad sportsmanship, it's just how timed matches go. A win is a win, whether on time or on the board. Besides, he did win on the board at the end.

You can always tell the point at which Ben was doing well until he wasn't: it's when he goes silent
It's probably also because he doesn't want to lose to hikaru because that fuels his ego more. Also he knows it'll be hard not to lose to hikaru, so he plays even more concentrated.

Because that's not a way out either. It's well-known that top players will stray off well-known theory when going for the win, since it creates messy uneven positions which lead to chances.
And even if he did lose, he is still taking responsibility since it was his decision to play the opening.
So neither of your statements are actually Hikaru looking for ways out if he loses.
@dagnu everyone does that tho. Granted, he does it a lot, but most people do too ngl. I'm pretty sure he'd rather chuck his face down a toilet seat than agree than his opponent, in that very particular game, just played better than he did.

LOL origin? I have known Hikaru was a bad sport since I was playing chess in elementary school. My chess coach used Hikaru as an example of what NOT to do when playing chess - or doing anything else for that matter. Obviously, a lot of people are just now getting into chess - which is great! However, most people in the chess community have known that Hikaru is a poor sport for years, its common knowledge if you follow chess. Hes a great player though, no doubt.

It’s funny because I’ve actually heard Ben compliment Hikaru’s play style a lot in lectures when Hikaru was brought up. Ben just said he doesn’t like him as a person.
When Hikaru says a line is dubious and he doesn't know why he's playing it, it's a secret line he's been working on but doesn't want other GM's to read into it ;)

I don't think you understood what hikaru said about that. Hikaru said that when someone (let's call him Eric cuz that's his name) offers a draw and his opponent (let's call him Hikaru just for this example) accidentally declines the draw by moving cuz he's low on time and didn't see the draw offer in time and then offers a draw immediately next move. In that case Eric should just accept the draw and not let Hikaru's time run out.
Hikaru's problem was not with the concept of flagging, he was in fact up a couple seconds in time when Eric offered the draw, but he waited 5 seconds for Eric to accept his draw offer cuz he thought Eric should just accept it after which he had no time anymore.

@@thijsbeentjes4008 you don’t just stop moving if you offer a draw, that’s not how chess works. There is no expectation that the other person will accept the draw. So if you stop moving and the other person flags you, that’s on you, as Eric said in his stream.

What a strange question. If you really are curious, he's popular because he's funny, listens to music, teaches all levels, and just plays openly with his stream and interacts/brings new people to chess. Ben does the same but as a teacher at a club.

I was completely joking with this comment and didn't know about tryingtolearn's strike at the time (not sure when that happened). I was inferring that Hikaru's 'genius' plan was to use his background music to generate an auto-strike. I was shocked when a few days later Hikaru's channel struck this video down. @@visgraatje859 Ive read the books "Whose turn is it" "Is my queen under attack?" and "Am I in check?" and so I think I now need to move onto some more rigorous material like "How many legal moves do I have" but i'm not sure if i'm ready for it yet.
