If the computers don’t magically have every single move prepared for in advance, it simply makes the calculations in Ben’s time, thus the moves are made instantly due to the faster calculation speed of computers. Mittens seems to have had a change in ELO since Hikaru played. If that assumption is correct, that’s most likely why Hikaru drew and Ben won. They played different bots, not the fact that the bot played instantly lol.

Stockfish suggests a different move until it sees Bens, then it agrees with Ben and changes it's mind. He played this entire game near perfect and it's not surprising he won considering this fact when other top GMs have been lucky to get draws.
At 8:38 instead of moving the queen id have sacrificed the knight in a check. White pawn takes i take open up the kings file. If the rook makes the same move to c1 unstoppable mate. Queen checks king if he moves to the corner the pawn mates if the king tries to hide behind the pawn queen to g2 check. King to e1 queen to g1. King sacrifices the pawn to protect the rook moving to d2. Queen to f2 check and captured pawn. The rook is free to take and g1 is covered on blacks king file so no checking out of it. Any counter arguments with my logic would be appreciated. Im 1800 in chess puzzles.
The problem with all these videos is we don't know what rating mittens was at. From my understanding mittens has been adjusted multiple times since release on how difficult the program is.

I am honestly surprised Ben was able to beat Mittens considering Hikaru had losses and draws to it. I guess it's an engine that plays ridiculously well most of the times, and then just blunders. So there is an element of luck whether you get a game where a human GM can beat it.
Mittens is a 3000+ rated engine that is only allowed to take one or two seconds per move. It’s never going to make a random blunder, but it will make positional mistakes because it doesn’t have very long to calculate. The unequal time control is what makes beating mittens possible

The queen and knight vs two rooks and bishop middlegame was balanced or even a bit better for black (at least until black lost a pawn). With multiple pieces on the board, a queen is better than two rooks; with a single pair of pieces for each side it depends. After white gained a pawn, I don't know; I feel that white is narrowly winning but it's tricky with the queen and knight playing tricks.

Humans are definitely better at defending obviously lost positions than (the normal) chess engines because the chess engines aren't likely to create complications in a losing position that might make the opponent to slip up but rather just draw the game out. It of course depends on the position but I would rather play a well known theoretical endgame win against a stockfish than against magnus or hikaru.

Mittens had the difficulty lowered quite a bit to only have an 84% accuracy. The old version was around 95-96% accuracy I think.
