I purchased a 15 year old house. and was scared last winter when all my grass turned brown. but with your help my lawn is one of the best lawn on the block. I think I have common.
Out here in the Desert Southwest, common bermuda is everywhere. Even grows in a drought in vacant lots. I'm working on restoring mine that's been neglected for 10 years, and it's coming back quickly. Common bermuda is underrated!
Most of my properties and properties and fields I renovate here in the St.Louis area ,I use Quickstand, Ironheart sod (Heartland Turf Farm) or plant a mixture of Yukon/Riviera from seed. We use sprigs to fill in small areas. Some areas have common bermuda mixed in. The Yukon/Riviera mix has had a lot of success here and looks great.
House built in 1976 I have common Bermuda. Was trying to cut as short as possible 1 on my mower. It couldn’t take it that low. It was scalping pretty bad with my Ego 21”+ I had to bump it up to level 2 and it really seems to like that a whole lot better. 2” cut. That Miracle Grow Lawn Food took my Bermuda to the next level. Used one bag per 1,000 and had applied Milo 3 weeks ago with a very heavy dose almost double the recomended coverage. Also Limed a month ago because PH was 5.0-5.5 Talk about scary but the lawn has never looked so good a week later. Thanks BYD and BYD JR I now have a crush line
Same. My home was built in the 1900’s and My common Bermuda did not like 1” left me pretty bare, but it got rid of the dead weeds. It seems to like 1.5”
I have St Augustine grass, but Bermuda seed heads pop up and start growing patches around the yard. Even though no Bermuda seed or sod was ever laid. Where is it coming from?
I live in Tennessee and when I first moved to my home I put in rye turf. Bermuda came in and I just let it come in. Looks beautiful now. It looks like a hybrid. I figured it told me I like it here! If you want to get rid of Bermuda in Tennessee MOVE
Bermuda Grass Central I'm keeping at at low rates of some micros and low rate fert, but week before the forth I'm going heavy just get that full by burst and mow the day before. Hahaha
I really enjoy your take on products and identify the different types of grass and weeds. My yard need some help bad and now I know what type of weeds that were in my yard. Thanks
Great video man. I live in South Carolina and really only ever had centiweed. Ive got what looks exactly like the Hybrid Bermuda creeping into my Centipede and it seems to be spreading pretty fast. Any way to stop that? Thanks
There’s no way to get rid of them, it’s the Bermuda Grass natural way of trying to reproduce itself. D J was right, mowing twice a week will help. The other way to slow down seed head production is to do a growth regulator once a month while the grass is actively growing. But once the summer heat sets in the seed head production will naturally slow down. You normally see it increases at the end of May through mid July. 👍🏾
The thing that irks me is my neighbor barely has any. I subscribe to lawn care services, as do most of my neighbors. Many of them don’t have these Bermuda stalks plaguing their lawn like I do. My lawn is nice and green but when these stalks pop up, my lawn has a distant brown appearance when the stalks get high. I’ll try cutting more often like you guys recommend.
I have gotten rid of an acre of common and replaced it with a hybrid. Mowing 1/2 " with a reel mower 3 times a week slowly spread the hybrid sod. You could also kill all grass and start fresh with sod.
Great video! Need some help please. I've got Tiff 419 (3 years newer home) and a vacant lot next door. I have a good amount of small patches common bermuda closet to the overgrown lot. My other side of yard has only tiff hybrid and looks great. Is there a chemical ie Tenacity to apply only on common bermuda areas? I am also taking down the mower height and going to mow 2x week. Texas Reel mower May 17
I have common...and its taken over....my yard started out with centipede and one yr had snow mold in the middle of my yard i removed it and the common Bermuda came from outta nowhere....
Smokey Cue both are great choices, 419 is the standard and Lat 36 offers a tad longer greening and a tad bit early greenup,,tolerates shade a little better so if I had to choose based on that the Lat 36, but 419 is always available and should be cheaper. The real key though is how you take care of it👍🏾
Smokey Cue is it’s sod it’s Hybrid, don’t quote me but I don’t even think common is sod as sod, most sods now are sterile ( May produce seeds but the seeds won’t reproduce) to answer your question it is a hybrid 👍🏾
I have tifway 419 throughout my entire yard but now am getting common running through it here in there. I hate it. It actually looks like weeds in the tifway and there isnt a damn thing I can do about it except for renovating the locations it crops up with new sod. I think I got it from the guy two doors down who thought it was a great idea to seed some of his yard that wasnt tifway with common. Now the whole street of tifway will begin to suffer im afraid. :( And you can most definitely tell the difference. It sticks out like a sore thumb.
Owen Sands lol 😂, I literally just did a video on I G about this before I read your comment, I have common mixed in with my hybrid also. The only thing you can do is keep it cut and feed with iron to try to get the colors close, other than that it’s bright green and dark green.
I only have a few minor spots here and there but I can tell it will progress over time which makes me mad. I am going to dig it up and resod those small areas in the spring. 2 or 3 rolls will do it. I feel like ill do that though and Ill still have seeds germinate in my yard from this other guys yard over the coming years. Ill be fighting it for the rest of my life! :( Also you can kiss your tifway goodbye in the end. The common will outplay it.
As far as I know I have hybrid Bermuda. My yard is suddenly being invaded by what looks like Bermuda on steroids. It is 4 or 5 times the size of the Bermuda in the lawn. This had seed heads like Bermuda only larger. Could common Bermuda be this big? It is much larger than the common one you show in the video.
BYD I have common and Tahoma 31 in mine. 24,000 feet total to care for and treat! Upstate SC Those guys with the little yards kill me with it cost so much to put down treatments, I say and your complaining with 3000 feet, lol
That common Bermuda is a little bit more curlier the hybrid is a little bit more spikier soon I bought both luxury I place the hybrid in the shade and I can notice the difference in about two or three weeks of laying them down.
Thanks but I live east coast and need to kill this Bermuda grass. Is trying to take over my tall fescue lawn and this Bayer stuff Bermuda grass killer doesn’t do absolutely anything to it.

Bitcoin Dan is this your first Bermuda lawn?
yes, im in Texas originally from Florida with St. Augustine.

I got common Bermuda here in Richmond, Va. My house was built in 1960 and the builders were installing common Bermuda in all the lawns in my area.

Looking good man. I have common Bermuda now. Thick. Green. Lush. I love it. Think I may over seed next spring with this to make it pop.

I have hybrid Bermuda ( mid-iron). We have to start throwing it down this weekend for July 4th bang!
Czr S water it in good, I still recommend 3 weeks before the 4th if you plan on doing outdoor stuff that day?
Bermuda Grass Central I'm keeping at at low rates of some micros and low rate fert, but week before the forth I'm going heavy just get that full by burst and mow the day before. Hahaha
Common Bermuda thanks for the information BYD.

Dedrick Sharpe far as I know it’s not. I think LCN has that same issue in his lawn.
How do you get rid of the common seed stalk? I have a ton of it that keeps cropping up in my lawn.
DJ GaFFLe Only way I’ve found is mowing twice a week. Those stalks grow FAST this time of year. Hopefully it means my grass is healthy.

Noah Krueger Yep, same here. I mowed Monday midday, Thursday evening needs mowing again! I’ve been mowing every 5 days, but could mow every 3-4 days.
You’re always clutch! 🌟

Where do the Common Bermuda seeds that grow come from?
The grass produces them when stressed to reproduce
Thanks for posting! Interesting Info!
BYD If you had to put in Bermuda sod would you plant Tifway419 or Lattiude36 sod?
Smokey Cue both are great choices, 419 is the standard and Lat 36 offers a tad longer greening and a tad bit early greenup,,tolerates shade a little better so if I had to choose based on that the Lat 36, but 419 is always available and should be cheaper. The price between the two is only 20.00 more for lat36. One other thing is lat36 common or a hybrid?
Smokey Cue is it’s sod it’s Hybrid, don’t quote me but I don’t even think common is sod as sod, most sods now are sterile ( May produce seeds but the seeds won’t reproduce) to answer your question it is a hybrid 👍🏾
Thanks for all your help BYD I owe you a beer.
Smokey Cue 🍺 👍🏾
I would just lay a few strips of Bermuda sod and fix it. 30 rolls are about 50 bucks
Hybrid is not available in my country,
Should I switch from common bermuda to Zoyshia?

Power mower will suck up your runners and chew them up and trash them, use reel mower and your Bermuda will spread faster and grow thicker
I have Hybrid, home was built 2018

Bloop are you sure it’s not Crabgrass?
I don't think it is crabgrass. Is there anyway I can send you photos?

Emilio Nunez I heard good stuff about that seed 👍🏾
BLACKJACK IS DA SHYT
I have Riviera Bermuda! I was told that it is nether common or hybrid.
Jacen Hunt improved seed.
Who told you that?
Bermuda Grass Central Johnson Seed Company
Jacen Hunt still based off the regular common seed just improvement over old version.
wish you had common that was cut shorter, blades smaller and tighter
Thanks but I live east coast and need to kill this Bermuda grass. Is trying to take over my tall fescue lawn and this Bayer stuff Bermuda grass killer doesn’t do absolutely anything to it.
