The thing I love about Mr. Copeland is that when he plays drums it’s not like he just plays for fun, instead he plays with passion and emotion much like he is telling a story through is drumming.
Without Copeland, The Police would have been a far less interesting group, and not as well known. A case can be made that he was the real star of that group.
Without Copeland, there wouldn't have been The Police as he created the group! It was literally Copeland's group and managed by his brother Miles. My piano teacher (jazz and classical) always told me to listen to the drummers, and how they deal with rhythm. I knew several drummers, took a look, and wasn't very pleased. Then, as a longtime Jimi Hendrix fan, I focused on Mitch Mitchell, and he was great. Sometime later I saw an interview with Stuart in which he indicated that MM was his favorite drummer and that he considered him exorbitantly underrated. I checked out Stuart immediately and he opened up a new world for me. What passionate musician. Thanks Stu!
The greatest showman and an iconic drummer. The Police was a band where the sum of the parts was beyond compare but the rivalry between Sting and Stewart Copeland was a catalyst for magic and a toxic entity. Stewart’s percussion work is terrific in this film!
I love this version. Inventive. Textured. Dimensional. Percussion forward to a classic song. Giving the audience the hits they love but also making interesting for The Police to perform. 👏🏼 Wish I saw this reunion concert!

Dave Grohl said something like this once in an interview, and he also mentioned Stewart Copeland as part of that group! “Play from the heart” is how he described it.

I would not be surprised at all if they loaned him that stuff the tour, you be surprised at how well top level endorsers are treated with free gear though.
Oh btw he mentions in that video I just linked to, a free amp given to him by Ampeg. He IS extremely wealthy though, so free gifts or not it wouldn't seem to matter. :) I do know that celebrities get 20/30/40% off supercars like Lamborghini. Incidentally hs police kit sold for $122k. After nearly 30 years in storage I wonder how it sounded compared to the early days! www.julienslive.com/view-auctions/catalog/id/216/lot/89702/
A joy to see a man working and playing in his passion. So blessed
musicalità, potenza, fantasia, dinamica, precisione tecnica. Uno dei più grandi percussionisti della storia.
I'm a metal head. Also I play drums professionally. So this normally isn't the type of music I listen to. I'm in to listening and playing bands like Lamb of God. But this song I can listen to over and over. And I can listen to and watch Copeland play all day, this guy is a true master!! And I really love how the drums and lyrics fall in place together.
The thing I love about Mr. Copeland is that when he plays drums it’s not like he just plays for fun, instead he plays with passion and emotion much like he is telling a story through is drumming.
I'm glad there's a video that focuses on just the amazing drummer...rare to find. This is Excellent!
Definitely one of the greatest percussionist of all time! Long live Stewart Copeland & The Police Thank You England !!!
45 years I’ve loved Stuart drumming. Still on my bucket list for an hour with him, absolutely amazing
I’m right behind you 😮
Without Copeland, The Police would have been a far less interesting group, and not as well known. A case can be made that he was the real star of that group.
No he is overdramatizing simple background music......No wonder Sting left and the POLICE demised.
Without Copeland, there wouldn't have been The Police as he created the group! It was literally Copeland's group and managed by his brother Miles. Copeland is also the core focal sound of the group.. wouldn't be The Police without Sting or Summers, but Copeland was the main ingredient who could not be substituted.
beamer USA - You obviously have no understanding of the complexity of what he's doing.
he is just trying to make it appear that is complex spoiling the mood of the song and the effort Sting was putting in it... look closely and you will see the farce Car Guy
Did you know Copeland STARTED the group, despite Sting's frontman stuff he's actually the original founder.
Never was a big fan of the Police or Stewart, but as I get older I’m appreciating him much, much more. He’s an excellent percussionist.
I could watch this dude for hours. Amazing, total mastery of the drums. He UNDERSTANDS his place in the music.
Definition of the great musician. You can tell who's playing with your eyes closed. The Police have three of those.
They have one. With my eyes closed I can't even tell there is a guitar in this band.
Damn ...
I never recall the song was this good ...
My housemate introduced me to the Police ...
When we were both studying in Lincon, NE, USA, in the 80s ...
It was Synchronicity album ...
I was hooked ever since ...
legend. no more words needed.
Copeland you have inspired a lot of us. A true genius.
He's very precise in his playing. It's like he has a perfect ability to duplicate complex beats several times over without a single mistake
He misses many things if you pay attention
@@lechavs I disagree. He’s really not missing a ton of things. His recoveries flow into the rest of the song which is just his natural ability. His fills and said recoveries are what make Stewart Copeland in a different league than any other drummer.
@@patrickbateman5088 objectively he misses things. He's improvising quite a lot. He's awesome, but that doesn't change the facts, and I was replying to someone saying he's perfect
Stewart Copeland is unreal. I could watch this all night.
Thanks Stu!
Truly a genius of his own craft. Stewart Copeland is the best!.
Ah the man who gave rhythm a meaning in the 70`s and 80`s.
His style was so unique, it baffles drummers even today
The greatest showman and an iconic drummer. The Police was a band where the sum of the parts was beyond compare but the rivalry between Sting and Stewart Copeland was a catalyst for magic and a toxic entity. Stewart’s percussion work is terrific in this film!
Esto es admirable ! Que forma de hacer música ! México ❤️ The Police 🇲🇽
Magique, magnifique sublime inoubliable ❤
I love this version. Inventive. Textured. Dimensional. Percussion forward to a classic song. Giving the audience the hits they love but also making interesting for The Police to perform. 👏🏼 Wish I saw this reunion concert!
You are not the only one!! 😢
You get those singers that sound like nobody else, like Copeland, I have not heard a drummer yet that sounds like him... only one of a kind, he has been a big influence in my drumming.
Brandon van Heerden Will give it 2 Copeland 1 other band were 4getting with the bad gas drums.NIRVANIA!!!!!!!!!DAVE IS THE MAN ON THE KIT......
The focus, timing and skill, whilst making it look easy is simply brilliant
Exactly, it beyond amazing when the bass enters full tone together with the base drum, really special band!!
Stewart performs such an orchestrated, visually entertaining performance
The arc of Stewart Copeland's versatility is long, and it bends towards greatness.
I could loop this all day and not be bored...!
Lightening struck three times in the same place with this band …
Master of percussion there is no one to equal him it does not depend on the speed it depends on the feeling when he plays I see him play and it moves me to tears ... Steward is the man
The Master Stewart Copeland. He's a magician. He's my favorite percussionist and drummer 👍😎. He's so strong.
The master of percussion sheer brilliance
A master at work
Always considered this man the greatest drummer of all time…..Sting’s voice is phenomenal as we know….but the police were …….STUART COPELAND and his beats …..totally amazing🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁
Just an unbelievable drum part. Fits the song perfectly as the great ones always seem to do. Copeland and the Police are in a league of their own!
Stuart isn't just a drummer... He's a true percussionist. What an ego filled but truly brilliant performance.
Stuart Copland is without a doubt one of the best percussionist of our generation by far . Extremely talented!!
When you listen to drums, even without music, just the drums, and you can clearly indentify the sign of the drummer, who it is, is that you are and will be always one of the greatests.
Few drummers are in this club and a bunch of them might play at speed of sound but will never be remembered.
Dave Grohl said something like this once in an interview, and he also mentioned Stewart Copeland as part of that group! “Play from the heart” is how he described it.
It looks like he's playing an Italian deli..amazing
Dude really?
@larshoneytoast33 instead of sausages, hams, cold cuts, and a skinned cow hung up/on display, he has chimes, splash cymbals, crotales and a gong :-)
@@matthewhartman7269 I think he means the pots and pans, ladles and plates, etc.
Sensational!! Stewart Copeland is always a class par excellence. Thanks for uploading this!
Grew up in the 80s listening and loving the Police. I had no idea Stewart was such a fantastic percussionist. (And he's kinda hot) lol Never had the opportunity to see them in concert. Would have loved to.
Master drummer.👍
Copeland is a pure Badass! Excellent footage!
what can i say ? Best drummer on mother earth ? yes , sure ! Best band ever ? no question, yes ! And such a huge Inspiration for so many people . I love those tree genius guys ....straight from the heart
I’ve watched this a dozen times over the last few weeks, every time it pops up on my UA-cam feed and it never gets old. Awesome on so many levels.
Best rendering ever of this song and...by far.
Damn, Stewart. That was mesmerizing. A real BLAST to watch.
My god..they are just so good..even after the layoff of not performing together..the chemistry these master musician is completely undeniable
I live for this track. The best drummer of all time
Stu style and feel make my spirit soar and reach to the sky. That's my experience of the man.
The Master at his best. Love this !
This is so great……just brilliant percussion.
Nearly speechless... Tremendous talent.
Very unique version of this song... I love drums, but I don't play a note. In my humble opinion there's no need to play to notice the talent that this true master musician has. Sure, playing really fast is great and doing tricks impresses anyone but knowing your instrument and having creativity goes a very long way and Mr. Copeland is the best example of that. Mr. Copeland: I've been a fan since the beginning. Thank You for having us enjoy your outstanding talent. Thanks for the video!
I absolutely love this arrangement!!!! Wow!!!!
I began to appreciate Stewart more when Zenyatta Mondatta came out. His work there blew me away. Thought highly of him since. Still do.
When a drummer is a true artist and a great musician
