    Man, I wish they would finally reveal everything underneath the clouds of Ilsabard. I mean we went there already, are they still undecided how the landmass should look like and what places there/where the places should be?

      You and me both. I strongly suspect it's because they have not nailed down how they want to do some of the physical placements and sizes If Bozja is between Corvos and Dalmasca, for instance, its gonna a be a headache to situate. Add in Landis, Nhalmasque, Werlyt, and beyond and then dealing with both END and the pandemic, and its no wonder it hasn't been decided yet. -Elioaux

      You gotta take into account that we only went to one map of the entire northern part of the continent.
      By comparison, that'd be like starting a new game, stepping into Central Thanalan, and then expecting the entire Eorzean map to be defogged, including Coerthas and Gyr Abania.

    Fantastic video. I can finally say I know the star my WoL lives in. This geographical discovery has made it clear that we still have much land (and ocean) to cover. I can’t help but wonder if/when we might visit it. What were the other peoples of Hyaedelin doing all this time? Were they fighting to save the world as well? Will we ever know their story? Will the next Final Fantasy online game take place there? So many exciting questions! Thank you for this amazing and well executed, quality video. Until next time! Stay safe. ❤️

    A bit late to the party, but I wanted to point out something about the use of the term "star" in Final Fantasy XIV: In Japanese, the kanji "星" (pronounced Hoshi or Sei, depending on if it's part of a compound or not) can mean either Star or Planet in Japanese, e.g. the Japanese word for the planet Mars is "火星" (Kasei) which translates to "Fire Star/Planet" and it would seem that the localization team used the literal translation of "Star" whenever "星" came up in the text/dialogue, instead of using context to distinguish between it's use to mean Star or Planet... Of course, considering the more or less archaic style used in the rest of the English translation, it's entirely possible that using this literal translation was a deliberate choice, since the planets were considered to be special stars back in ye olde days, prior to proper astronomy revealing that they were entirely different celestial bodies to actual stars.

    • @qamarqammar7629
      @qamarqammar7629 2 роки тому +4

      Planets were referred to as stars in western astronomy as well. The stars as we now know them were called the "fixed stars" because from earth they seem to move as as one (often in fixed groups like constellations) across the sky as a unit, as if attached to the bottom of a bowl turned upside down. The planets in contrast were "wandering stars" because their movements relative to the earth were independent and had to be traced individually using mathematics, observation and measurement. The sun and moon were included as "wandering" planets at this time and much early astronomy involves prediction of eclipses via measurement of these bodies movement in space.

    As someone who finished STB but haven't yet started SHB, it's interesting to see a map of a "fully" explored Othard/Hingashi. To me, Nagxia, the Bay of Yanxia, all the mountains and oceans north/west of Azim Steppe, and all of Koshu except Kugane are still unknown to me. I would hope that some of these areas may get the open zone treatment and not be just another dungeon/raid.

    Love the video and the detail. Especially for a sprout like me who still has problems figuring out the map. The only thing I would have like to see (tip), which probably is a bit/lot more work of editing. Is the map at all times somewhere to the right or something. A bit smaller then the background with a arrow or red circle where exactly the smaller areas are when talking about them. Like a map with a circle where the crystal tower in Eorzea is etc. Would have upped the video to next level. You kinda already pull the map to that location, but for idiots like me a big circle of "look here dumbass", would help out xD
    Edit; Also just noticed when I rewinded. Love the chapters in the video, really helps rewatchibillity and searching something specific. Thanks for that :)

    From that what I can see Hydealyn seems like a lot more larger then our planet earth, everything in-game got a inspiration from our past and our planet earth but Jesus, Hydealyn seems really larger

    • @Cneq
      @Cneq 2 роки тому +5

      Seems like a 1:1 so far and not exactly larger than our world. All current locations have a 1:1 to the main regions of our world and the next two main locations being the New Word and Meracydia would basically just be comparable to North/South America and Meracydia would basically be Australia.
      After those two our world and this world will be basically the same when it comes to geographical divisions and thus for future expansions after that I believe we're 100% going to instead explore new planets and most likely along the way confront a new enemy that will force Hydealyn as a whole [and perhaps any other civilizations we meet out in the stars] to unite to face a common enemy.
      Of course not to mention the reflections as well, perhaps there will be a way for all reflections to travel amongst each other and thus have people from the first be able to go to and from the source and vice versa alongside whatever other reflections we explore next.

      @@eW91dHViZSBpcyBjZW5zb3JzaGlwI wouldn't so simplistically make such a comparison. Aldenard already has Thanalan for a vast desert, and culturally, it's like North Africa, and Coerthas is like what we picture medieval/Renaissance Europe. However, on the same continent, we have Gyr Abania, which hosts a mixed Middle Eastern/Indian culture. Meracydia, being a large island, is often seen as something like Australia (90% of which is arid/desert). I don't think there is a 1:1 Africa proper in Hydaelyn... or 1:1 of most things.

  • @eolendes6432
    @eolendes6432 2 роки тому +3

    In terms of paralels to the real world what would each continent be?
    Aldenard: Western Europe and Middle East?
    Ilsabard: Eastern/Northern Europe and Central Asia with Thavnair as India?
    Othard: Western Asia
    New World: America
    Meracydia: Australia or Africa?

    • @TheEorzeanArchives
      @TheEorzeanArchives  2 роки тому +3

      Loosely, What you said tracks though Othard is both East and Western Asia with Doma being a combination of sengoku Japan, China and Korea, Hingashi being Edo Japan as well as locals like Nagxia being akin to Vietnam. Dalmasca is loosely the Middle East with Bozja being akin to those transition points like Turkey. Meracydia based on what we know so far seems to be a combination of Australia and North Africa but there may be more to it in the future. Worth noting that its all not a 1-1 but broadly applicable.

    If I remember the lore correctly, The Burn is empty of aether because the Allagans drained it in the making of Azys Lla.

    • @TheEorzeanArchives
      @TheEorzeanArchives  2 роки тому

      That is an implication though it’s really only stated (that I could find) that part of the land of the burn was taken for Azys Lla and that the house of the crooked coin was also redirecting the aether that should have helped restore it over time. However EE2 and the MSQ states that it was primal summonings so that is the story and information I chose to go with. It’s possible that it was a cover or that these other things perpetuated the issue but that I can find that -seems- to be conjecture. -Elioaux

      @robbymoeyaert7482 2 роки тому +1

      @@TheEorzeanArchives
      Yes I remember that part of the story. However, as it was explained it was emperor Solus that after beholding The Burn set about to conquer other lands to prevent summoning, I always interpreted this as Garlean propaganda used to justify the Garlean warmongering insitigated by Solus. Given what we now know about Solus and his relation to ancient Allag, and the presence of Allagan ruins in The Burn, I felt reasonably sure about its use in Azys Lla's construction.
      But perhaps we will learn more in a future expansion.

    I have a question
    Where are you getting your info on the Miqo'te migrating south from northern Islabard into northern Aldenard(Dravania and Ishgard)? All the info I read says the Miqo'te who exist in Eorzea today came from the descendants of Meracydia. The migratory patters also suggest that they came from southern Ilsabard, and then traveled west into Gyr Abania, the Black Shroud, Thanalan and Vilbrand.
    There are almost zero Miqo'te in those areas, not even a single tribe, which suggests they didn't travel from Ilsabard at all, at least not originally, and certainly not from the northern reaches.

      Evidence for
      Sesame Seeds
      “A tiny seed rich in aromatic oil, sesame is native to Meracydia, and thought to have first been brought to Eorzea by migrating Miqo'te.”
      This does not state that Miqote are from Meracydia it states migrating Miqote brought them to Eorzea. As Miqote have migrated at multiple points across the Three great continents this is highly questionable as reasoning they are from Meracydia at best. The bit about Miqote is also completely missing from the JP text. “メラシディア原産の一年草。種子を食材や香油に用いる”
      Evidence against
      5.X Man do not come to Meracydia until after the second astral era
      (-Tiamat-)Beyond the southern ocean, we discovered a lush and fertile land. It would come to be known as Meracydia by the children of men, though many years were to pass before they crossed the seas.
      (-Tiamat-)Upon our arrival, we were welcomed by the peaceful people of the forest, kin to the trees. Surrounded by nature's bounty, Bahamut and I had found a place to raise our young.
      GRAHATIA
      Fascinating! This correlates with the writings of the Sharlayan scholar Rurusha.
      She posits that man first settled on the southern continent towards the end of the Second Astral Era─correctly, it would appear. If only she were with us to hear the tale from Tiamat herself.
      The Warring triad supports this both with no mention of the Miqote or them as worshipers even of Sophia.
      Miqote were found in Ilsbard as well as Migrated from Eorzea to Ilsabard then back to Eorzea during the age of frost.
      Miqote In Eorzea during third astral era Desche, ancestor of Graha who leaves/returns to Ilsabard following the Fourth umbral calamity and locates himself in Corvos where the G tribe is found to this day and as explained by Graha was found prior to Allag’s intervention.
      Miqote return to Eorzea across the frozen bloodbrine from southern ilsabard post 5th umbral calamity.
      - Crystal Tower questline, EE1page 25-29
      G’rahas comments on The G Tribe and Corvos
      GRAHATIA
      Ah, well... My situation is also somewhat complicated. I was raised in Sharlayan, yes, but I was born rather further away.
      In the southern reaches of Ilsabard, in fact. For generations, my people have dwelt in Corvos, the coastal region opposite the island of Thavnair.
      The Allagans founded a city in that fertile land, and by ship, brought in the subjugated tribes of the Miqo'te to serve as laborers.
      Of course, the massive earthquakes of the Fourth Umbral Calamity brought an end to the empire's reign. And when the Fifth Calamity froze the seas solid, many of the tribes still living in Corvos braved the journey back to Eorzea...
      My ancestors, however, chose to remain, that they might prevent the remnants of Allagan technology from being misused.
      ALISAIE
      Isn't Corvos under Garlean rule?
      GRAHATIA
      For the past fifty years, yes. Some semblance of local culture remains, as is the case for most imperial provinces, but Garlemald renamed the region “Locus Amoenus.”
      ...When I was a boy, a nearby town came under the jurisdiction of an illustrious imperial family─the nobles of House Darnus.
      House Darnus demonstrated a singular interest in Allagan civilization, and so my tribe was forced to consider a plan of action.
      For some time already, voices had been raised in favor of abandoning our ancient customs─after all, the Allagan Eye no longer passed to our eldest children as reliably as it once had.
      Fear of discovery eventually tipped the scales, and the decision was made to bury our ties to the knowledge and traditions of Allag.
      As the last child born with the Allagan Eye, I was given over to the custody of friends in the Students of Baldesion, who had me registered as a Sharlayan citizen.
      At the earliest point in time, the third astral era. We are given no information geographically of existence beyond Ilsabard when Allag used them as laborers.
      Circumstantial
      Seker of the sun have existed as well as Azeyma worship dating back to at least Allag and likely before due to twelve worship existing that far back.
      Counterpoint letter naming culture did not exist until AFTER their return across the bloodbrine.
      Keeper of the moon names are suspected to date back to the first astral era and their tribe is associated with Menphina worship.

      Sorry to info dump all of that but just as a starting point. To respond more specifically im not sure what other implication you may be referring to about them being from Meracydia other than that it was a popular fan theory for a long time. Textually im unaware of anything that isnt just bending implication. Would love to know to see it though.
      To talk about the northern reaches. They wouldn't have mainly settled in northern Ilsabard but they did cross over the bloodbrine as is stated in EE1 which is in the north and they would have had to have gone through. There are tribes in Gyr Abania (M) Black shroud (Keepers of the moon) Vylbrand (Y) and Thanalan (U) so not sure I follow on that point. As for Ilsabard there is the G tribe. The two best places I can recommend for these sources are EE1 and the MSQ 5.5-first half of 6.0

      @@TheEorzeanArchives No this is excellent! A lot of lore is lost in my brain, I look up Wikis to try and remember some of this stuff, but I also recognize that Wikis are generally created by users, not ripped directly from the source material.
      Translation and interpretation errors can abound in such cases, and I fully recognize that I could be wrong when recalling information. In fact, I was entirely wrong.
      I was just trying to see where a Dravanian/Ishgardian connection could be, seeing as there are next to no Miqo'te Ishgardians(they're all Elezen and Hyur it seems). Geographically speaking, migration patterns tend to stay pretty close to the original locations, spreading out slowly in a direction or two. You see that partly with today's borders in real life.
      It just made more sense in my head that Miqo'te had come from Southern Ilsabard, after the assumed migration from Meracydia. Seeing as that's likely, if not altogether proven false, it does make more sense that Miqo'te would originate in Eorzea, be pushed into southern Ilsabard, and then slowly make their way back over the next age and a half.
