I really liked the change of detail of how a deaf Sam would just turn overnight and sat there absorbing the sun like fungi since he wasn’t looking at anything alive and couldn’t hear anything. There wasn’t anything for him to do and it wasn’t until Elie touched him that his infected instincts acted up and he attacked her compared to the game where it was like eh time up, time to turn.
Yea that was a nice nod to him being deaf. He has just turned but still has his human traits of no hearing. Sad in the game and sad ending in the show.
The dude just let himself die tho. He didn't have to shoot it in the first place and he didn't save anyone by just standing there getting his head ripped off. Why not just run and protect ur leader..? I love the show but that part made it look like the bad survivors are just morons. They didn't survive 20 yrs being morons lol

I think giving Henry the motivation they did (his brother's leukemia and vulnerability in this world) was even more effective as far as explaining that/why he's a collaborator.
As someone that has never played the video game.. i don't know.. but i think it was extremely effective.. the ending made me have such a strong sense of sadness... right in the feelings.. and i think that the way they wrote the episode with the backstory helped with that..
The show keeps changing things for the better. When Henry said "what have I done", in addition to shooting Sam like he did in the game, in the show he also had to deal with the fact that people were tortured and killed by Fedra because he ratted them out, and in the end it was all for nothing. The motivation for why he took his own life was even more convincing.
Never played the game and can say this episode was the best so far by a mile. Was not expecting any of this. Episode completely broke me. I have a 6 year old son, my heart was beating out of my chest the entire time for Sam. Who's cutting onions this late???
Honestly the game has soo much more depth to it! I reckon you'd love it! The whole sewer section was very lightly glossed over in the series. The whole story of ish and the children is devastating and you just don't get that from watching the show 😊
That they overthrew FEDRA just 11 days ago explains why Kathleen’s resistance team was so careless with ammo. Joel was very careful with his shots, the resistance just blasted away.
the FEDRA soldiers who were trained had stopped the infected but the resistance just had the inside upper hand being inside the city that was free of infected. until this kansas resistance failed ....now i imagine this infected horde is going to over run this HBO version of this area. hmm hmm
The clicker neck stab, the way the bloater charged at the screen, and ripping a head in two by the jaw, ISH in the tunnels!! 😩 This episode was my favorite so far. I am *weeping* at the ending, even though I knew what was coming.. Ellie showing Sam her scar was brilliant, I’m glad he had a tiny bit of hope before he died. I hated the last thing she said to him in the game 😂🤦🏽♀️ this was way more sweet, which made it all the more brutal. The way Henry so quickly shot him, looked at Joel and with a broken voice “what did I just do?” Holy shit. amazing actors.. and Sam was adorable 🥺 Dangit i edited my comment after you liked it lol. Lost my heart!! I’m a huge fan of your videos, Thank you for all you do 🤍
@@jc_hills1540 Sam asked “do you believe the people are still inside? Henry told me they go with their families to heaven .. do you think that’s true?” Ellie: I go back and forth, I mean I’d like to” sam: but you don’t?” Ellie: I guess I don’t” .. Sam: “yeah, me neither” Something like that. that would suck to hear right before you die lol. So scary.
From the moment I saw the bloater in the episode preview, I had two things I wanted. I'm so happy that both came true. The kill scene taken from the game, and I wanted them to be unable to kill it.
I loved the scene when Ellie and Sam were being just kids during the Starlite scenes. Giggling and Ellie trying sign language. During all the apocalyptic mayhem, they can still be innocent kids. So many good scenes. Best episode so far. 2:45
My favourite moment was when Ellie tried to cure Sam with her blood. Many people believe that she did it because she thought that she could really cure him, but I think she just wanted to give him hope so that he won't be scared. Poor kid... I was bawling my eyes out.. This episode is the best so far for me.
I think she did believe it was going to cure him, otherwise she wouldn’t felt asleep with him in there. She would have been alert for his transformation.
The Bloater looked amazing, and the visual effects artists will hopefully be recognized come awards season next year. The way the Bloater killed Perry, in the same way it can kill Joel in the game, was also a nice attention to detail. Also, child clicker?! Now that's the stuff of nightmares.
Kevionn Woodard was incredible as Sam . I broke down in tears watching the scene when Sam and Ellie were exchanging the notes in the hotel room. Amazing job by all . I love how this series is all inclusive of people with different lifestyles.
Not gonna lie, the only satisfying moment was seeing Kathleen get killed for being an idiot and having her back against the Clickers. Everything else made me cry in this episode.
@@mrmike9803 - Think it was just proving how out of circumstance people can just end up in positions they are too dumb for or not cut out for. They build me up and break my heart with every episode. That moment when Henry realised that it was over for Sam and therefore, that he somehow failed.... Broke me.
It was a sort of mirror to episode 3 with Bill and Frank. Bill ended it because Frank was his purpose. Henry did as well because he was there to protect Sam.
Sam was phenomenal. His ASL was perfect and Ellie and Henry did good too. Joel didn’t even try 😂. Was so cool to see everyone should learn to get around clickers.

My favorite moment was when Henry thought Joel responded in a weird tone and Ellie exclaimed that's just how he sounds like an asshole - I burst out laughing
This season is trending the right direction. From a guy who doesn't usually get wowed by action scenes...the infected pouring out of the ground was an amazing action scene.
God, I was watching my parents react to the brothers’ death. Their shock and awe on their faces when they killed them brought waves of memories of my own reaction to the games
The audio descriptions are great in this show. The bloater was described as "a bear sized infected" when he pulled himself out of the ground and man, that puts things into perspective in terms of his sheer mass and strength.
I knew it was coming and it still hurt but yay I agree Ellie tying the cure thing with her blood will come back I bet. Also I like how the infected are so much faster and more aggressive like a title wave.
Seeing that Drawing of Ish reminded me of the notes i read in the game to what actually happened to his group in that tunnel settlement 😔 I expected the horde but not that way like damn They actually did the animation of how a bloater kills you if you get caught by it in the game I expected to get hurt watching this ep but i guess i wasn't that prepared....Sam actually showed the bite here rather than keeping it to himself At least here they actually showed thwm burying them rather than just mentioning what they did to the bodies in the game
My favorite moment is definitely the Bloater and infected pouring out of the maintenance tunnels. My theory is the Bloater is Ish the other infected are the people he saved the families that were living in the sewers in the game.
In the game, Ish survived the collapse of the sewer community. When you go into one of the suburban houses in Pittsburgh there's a survivors note from him.
I think the other parallel was between kathleen and Henry. Henry sold out a man he respected to save his little brother. Kathleen took down FEDRA and brought her posse in revenge to losing her brother. Both showing how they care about their family and how their morality is limited to family
I love how even a badass revolutionary group, fully stocked, can get absolutely annihilated in minutes. Apocalypse Fabio getting his head ripped off by a monster that has eaten countless bullet less shows how formidable the monsters really are. Humanity has no hope against this force.
Yeah that's the thing. They are complacent. They haven't been exposed to any degree, compared to other districts, to the infected. In a way they are the original Alexandria in the Walking Dead. A false or misplaced sense of security, which gets them in the end.
The immense care with the game is amazing. A very subtle reference is the sound effect that appears when the sniper start shooting them. That is the same sound effect when you are being spotted and losing your stealth. That is amazing
The bloater surpassed my expectations and more!..10/10 😮👌🏻have to say though i was a bit dissapointed that after Henry telling Joel there was infected in the tunnels that have been locked in there since the start of the outbreak and that there should only be a couple of them left i would have much preferred to have 2 or 3 badass armoured bloaters come up and cause mayhem rather than the HUGE mass of runners and clickers we got...only because it would have made more sense that after 20 years down there the infected would have either been dead with just the fungus spreading over the area and a few bloaters/late stage clickers left. also everyone knows just a couple of clickers alone are a big enough threat so it didn't make sense to have a horde of runners aswell as that many clickers and only 1 bloater, and i found myself wondering where the hell they all disappeared to by the next morning when they buried Henry&Sam...we didn't get to see the aftermath and i was super frustated that Joel and Ellie didnt even seem to see the bloater!..but that aside i loved the episode overall and would love to know if anyone felt the same?!..i'm sure we'll encounter more bloaters to come anyway i just hope it's not ages away!👌🏻🙏🏻
It was terrifying how the infected just ran out but so cool how they finally gave us the bloater. It’s like they keep outperforming episode after episode and I’m excited as how the finale will play out. Btw I love watching your videos. Great breakdown!
That was a pretty intense episode. I kind of guessed what would happen to Henry and Sam -- and Kathleen for that matter. What a truly awful fate for all of them. That swarm was truly horrifying.
The acting in the show continues to amaze me. The actors who play Henry and his brother are so amazing in their roles. The final scene at the end I could see the pain in Henry’s eyes. So powerful
This is the best episode so far. Even though I knew what was coming it still hit me like a ton of bricks. Kudos to Lamar Johnson (Henry) and keivon Woodward (Sam) who is actually deaf in real life, they nailed it.
I only played a little bit of the first game, as someone who didn't know what to expect that was incredibly brutal and so hard to watch. What an incredible episode.
@@debuthunter5389 I'm just a very busy guy. I work alot and have 5 kids. I have both 1 and part 2 so I plan on starting over this week when I get some time off. Looking forward to it
For those of us who played the game we knew Henry and sam’s ending. But damnit Ellie trying to save Sam just made it hurt so much more. And having Sam be deaf relying more on Henry was a great change. loved the ish and Danny easter egg. Their story in game was sad. Great episode see you all next Sunday!
@@emergencyawesome in the game the story of ish is quite sad, I think you missed that part and I’m glad they in the show they didn’t portrayed how it actually ends.
The shortener didn't hate Pittsburgh. On the podcast, they said since they filmed the show in Alberta, CA, the city of Pittsburgh didn't fit the scenery they had filmed the way Kansas City could. They also said it was for pacing purposes of the show to get them to Wyoming.
The show runners don’t hate Pittsburgh, they picked Kansas City because it looked more like their shooting location in Canada. And also because they are doing the whole first game in one season, so they needed Joel and Ellie to be further west.
I played the game, so I knew what was coming... but Elli's reaction to Henry's final choice was a gut punch I wasn't expecting. Her face and the sound she makes.... ooooffff.
@charleshammer7984 no they weren't. I will say I like this interpretation of the bloater. No spore bombs. Just a tank/berserker wrecking fools. Makes him more scarier and menacing. I hope we see him again in the show
Before watching this episode, I knew how Henry and Sam ended up. Was still unprepared emotionally seeing Sam interact with Ellie in the episode. Best episode yet, imo.
Charlie you keep making the best content out there. Great stuff and the way they adapted the sniper street game action bit to a set piece and not feel forced was fantastic. Keep it up man been here looong time and you keep being the best.
Kathleen lowkey got everyone killed. Perry saw the ground was collapsing and that they were running out of time. They could have packed up all their trucks and bailed and probably been fine.
My favorite parts were the moments between Ellie and Sam. I love that she still has openness. My saddest part was Henry killing himself. 😢 (I probably would have done the same thing.)
My favorite moment is when Ellie tried to save Sam . She doesn’t know it won’t work yet she tried. It’s much more complicated then that but it was to sweet . I was about to cry ! But I loved this episode!!!! ❤❤❤ love ur videos Charlie!
Sam was just a little boy trying to make sense of a crazy world all while being deaf. It was nice to see him and ellie play together just being kids for a hot minute. Unforgettable episode.
Craig Mazin + Neil Druckmann were asked by Troy Baker on HBO's official TLOU podcast why the switch from Pittsburgh to Kansas City. I believe Mazin replied that most of TLOU was shot in Calgary + the physical appearance + skyline of Calgary more closely resembled KCMO than Pittsburgh. (Mazin joked at first that he hates Pittsburgh before admitting he has no harsh feelings for the city; it was simply a practical design decision for the TV show.)
I found it funny in the beginning when Henry and Sam snuck up on Joel. Knowing that in the last episode, Joel broke glass as an alarm against intruders, but it didn't work. Like, they stepped on the glass, but the noise didn't wake them up as they got the surprise on them.
When Joel was making his way to intercept the sniper, and had a glance at the bridge, it seemed like for maybe a moment he thought about returning for the others and making a run for it, but instead proceeded with stopping him. This may show how "persistent" he is in keeping Ellie safe (like he mentioned to her earlier). Not 100% on this though!
My fav moment from the episode was something no one's really talking about is - FEDRA kept the city "safe" for 20yrs and these Rebels couldn't even manage 11days.
Great to see them bring back Tommy's voice actor as Perry. Like recasting Marleen's voice actress as the current actress. Just nice to see even more pay offs to the game.
The moment I saw the fire and hole I said to myself "the demons from hell" and it made the moment more intense for me just seeing the infected mow down the hunters and almost killing the trio right there
Glad and grateful that they have managed to make every episode even deeper and sadder than the game. This episode was heartbreaking. Beautifully crafted 💖👏

This episode was amazing, definitely my favourite so far. Sam and Henry were portrayed perfectly
I swear that end scene hurt me more then it did the actual game 🥲 , that episode was amazing
Press F to pay respects
Yep. Thought the exact same.
yeah, that shit hurt. F
*F for Henry and Sam*
It was terrifying how the infected just ran out but so cool how they finally gave us the bloater. It’s like they keep outperforming episode after episode and I’m excited as how the finale will play out. Btw I love watching your videos. Great breakdown!
That was a pretty intense episode. I kind of guessed what would happen to Henry and Sam -- and Kathleen for that matter. What a truly awful fate for all of them. That swarm was truly horrifying.
Awful fate for kathleen? Excuse me?
@@itskxrda7080 well yeah I think its pretty horrible to have your face ripped off by a kid
@@itskxrda7080 right.. lol she has no niceness abt her
The acting in the show continues to amaze me. The actors who play Henry and his brother are so amazing in their roles. The final scene at the end I could see the pain in Henry’s eyes. So powerful
Possibly one of the best episodes of anything I've ever watched. World class!
As someone who never played the game..... I have to say, this show has not had a bad episode yet.
Why did you stop playing?!??!
My Last of Us Episode 6 video will post next sun after they release it!
@@emergencyawesome in the game the story of ish is quite sad, I think you missed that part and I’m glad they in the show they didn’t portrayed how it actually ends.
When I saw the bloater come out of the hole. I was..."whoa!". Truly scary.
The shortener didn't hate Pittsburgh. On the podcast, they said since they filmed the show in Alberta, CA, the city of Pittsburgh didn't fit the scenery they had filmed the way Kansas City could. They also said it was for pacing purposes of the show to get them to Wyoming.
Those infected were creepy as shit especially the one going after ellie in the car flopping over the seats 😱
The show runners don’t hate Pittsburgh, they picked Kansas City because it looked more like their shooting location in Canada. And also because they are doing the whole first game in one season, so they needed Joel and Ellie to be further west.
Man, that was a crazy ending! The changes to the Sam story were really great additions, loving the writing on this show.
What an ending for episode 5
When Henry pulled the trigger , I fuckn lost it man. So heart breaking . This show is riveting
I played the game, so I knew what was coming... but Elli's reaction to Henry's final choice was a gut punch I wasn't expecting. Her face and the sound she makes.... ooooffff.
The bloater was sweet. He beat whole sale ass and didn't even get a scratch. Awesome
They’re weapons weren’t upgraded enough lol
@charleshammer7984 no they weren't. I will say I like this interpretation of the bloater. No spore bombs. Just a tank/berserker wrecking fools. Makes him more scarier and menacing. I hope we see him again in the show
Getting attached to Sam and Henry for it to end like that. Man, that was sad.
man this episode poked at my heart so much. I teared up a few times.
Man that scene was even more devastating 😢
Before watching this episode, I knew how Henry and Sam ended up. Was still unprepared emotionally seeing Sam interact with Ellie in the episode. Best episode yet, imo.
Charlie you keep making the best content out there. Great stuff and the way they adapted the sniper street game action bit to a set piece and not feel forced was fantastic. Keep it up man been here looong time and you keep being the best.
Thanks!
Kathleen lowkey got everyone killed. Perry saw the ground was collapsing and that they were running out of time. They could have packed up all their trucks and bailed and probably been fine.
That kid that wanted to take Ellie out must’ve been one of those who died in the underground school/refugees
Episode was good but sad. Seeing Sam and Ellie getting along playing was a joy. Seeing him turn and shot was sad
I think Ellie said sorry because she promised she'd stay awake with Sam.
I know everyone loved episode 3.. But this episode was the best one to me so far.. man this one was heavy! 😢
The show is just getting better and better. Ellie is pretty badass, and she went to military school.
Nice overview. Small point, Brian was the guy Joel killed, not Kathleen's brother. Her brother was called Michael.
So many emotions!
Henry and Sam 😭
Bloater 😲
Kathleen 😡😡🤬🤬🤬
Great episode! 5 stars !!
That child clicker was the most saddest and most disturbing thing so far.
Edit: Just noticed that she was wearing a Blue’s Clues shirt.
she was played by a 9 year old gymnast too
I love how the bloater's kill was the same from the game
I found it funny in the beginning when Henry and Sam snuck up on Joel. Knowing that in the last episode, Joel broke glass as an alarm against intruders, but it didn't work. Like, they stepped on the glass, but the noise didn't wake them up as they got the surprise on them.
The bloater emerging is easily an almost 'Battle of the Bastards' level moment.
The sound that guy made when the bloater rips his head was one of the most realistic and natural sound ever. No over the top hollywood scream.
Ellies reaction to Henry killing himself was heartbreaking and so well acted.
My fav moment from the episode was something no one's really talking about is -
FEDRA kept the city "safe" for 20yrs and these Rebels couldn't even manage 11days.
This show is too good at making us love characters and breaking our hearts in one episode
Great to see them bring back Tommy's voice actor as Perry. Like recasting Marleen's voice actress as the current actress. Just nice to see even more pay offs to the game.
I loved seeing that drawing of Ish, such a sad ending to that story when you find all the bodies of the children in the sewers
I loved Ish's story, thankfully he made it out of the sewers so maybe he's still out there somewhere
The endure and survive sign language “handshake” between Sam and Ellie
The infected scene was like The Battle of the Bastards on shrooms, literally
There’s something so menacing about a villain with fire behind them.
It was interesting to see this new faction but I felt so bad for Sam and Henry.
It reminds us of the devil
Henry was a rat honestly he deserves to die the kid was innocent but he wouldn't survive without him anyway
I didn't cry on episode 3 like most folks but this one here got me at the end 🥺
