I live near Los Angeles and in 2002 at the age of 21, I bought a 1972 MGB Roadster in British Racing Green with beige interior. Fun little speedster that ran great for a few years before needing a repair!!! Classy and has character too!
They're great little cars and considering that parts availability on them is incredible, you can easily repair them with just a set of tools. I own a 66 MGB Mk1 Roadster and it has never given up on me ever since I bought it 1 and a half years ago. I think what really caught people by surprise on these roadsters was that they had a heater, radio, and wind-up windows, something that most of the small convertible cars back then didn't have back then due to the limited space inside the car.
I've researched this after reading your claim, and everything I find is contrary to your claim. Please share a source for your claim. From Google: "Are Terry Waite and John McCarthy friends? John McCarthy CBE on his role at Hostage International with ... Now, three decades on, he's helping others in similar situations through his role as Patron of Hostage International. The charity was originally founded by John's former cellmate and great friend Sir Terry Waite who himself was held for more almost five years, much of it alone."
This is the only car that is worth the same as 30 years ago. Even covid dit not increase the price. 10k usd, gbp or euro still buys you a nice early one.
And beleive me, we Americans where just as mad about that stupid legislation that ruined alot of just beautiful body's with those rubber and plastic crap bumpers.
The MGB in 1992 was newer than the NA Miata is in 2022.
MGBs are Outstanding cars.

Wow, I guess the prices/cost have gone up just a bit in 20 years. My favorite comment though was "bullet-proof mechanics".
ended up buying a 77 Fiat Spider, and still love it . about same price but technically much more advanced with storage space a( back seat ??????)
It wasn't the American market,it was the American government!!
Terry Waite. John McCarthy, his co prisoner, hated him with a vengence.
