- After doing the review of the Ulanzi AM18, I wanted to see if it can hold it's own against the top 2 other brands of wireless microphones out there. The question is, can a $99 wireless microphone keep up with the Big boys? Audio Test of the Ulanzi vs RODE vs DJI Mic 2

On my phone they all sounded pretty close with the Rode sounding the worst, at least on my phone. $99 is a good buy
Yeah I was surprised that the RODE didn't sound as "full" as the other 2.

Very interesting test, I was surprised how the Rode sounded very tinny leaning towards higher frequencies. On my computer monitor speakers the Ulanzi sounded best but on my headphones the DJI has a slight edge. The Deity sounds great ! Great video Andre

I have a Yulanzi EM18 microphone, and my question is, did you set the volume in the middle, that is, 0 or plus?
This test was with the internal recording feature of each microphone and did no processing in editing to either audio clips

I agree with your opinion 100%. I guess if I was not embedded with DJI equipment like the pocket 3 and Osmo Action, I would probably purchase for that price the Ulanzi. Question, does the Ulanzi mic have Bluetooth? That would be another reason if you're using DJI to use the mic 2. Thanks for sharing.
The Ulanzi does not have Bluetooth
Ulazi records with extremely low audio even with +10 Gain and max volume in settings. How were you able to fix this issue when playing back audio?
Maybe you got a defective unit as mine did not suffer that.
i am surprised that no one has mentioned that the ulanzi has a monitoring port on the receiver?

For the money only, hard to beat the $99 one. For quality, must choose the DJI or Rode IMO. :)

That a.m. microphone ulanzi Really sound great I think it won. Very impressive not just because it’s cheap. It actually sounded the best.

Yes it makes clipping the audio much less likely and gives a lot of flexibility
Excellent comparison ! Of course DJI and Rode are taking us for a ride .... 32 bit float .... cool marketing and yeah it doesn't clip, but the capsule will and the usable (and useful) dynamic range of a condenser capsule is way less than 100dB so it's not too hard to design a clip free preamp/ADC when at 48khz. Wireless mics are now a commodity and Ulanzi's pricing reflects that. I think that a bunch of other brands will or already are using the same components. The same thing happened with LED studio lights, tripods, you name it.
I was hoping you would see this and offer your input since you deal with audio all the time. The Ulanzi really surprised me

Why did the ulanzi am 18 sound better than all the mics? I thought the sound actually sound cleaner and crisper are you sure you didn’t mix up the mics even the floor test was better. lol I’ve been hearing that little microphone sounded good most of the reviews that I’ve been watching. I can’t really tell the difference between it and the DJI and the distance test that I’ve been watching is unbelievable how far that little Mike can reach it’s just an awesome package it’s not just about it being a value. The little microphone actually sounds great.
I really couldn't tell the difference in my PC speakers between the DJI and the Ulanzi. The Rode sounded different, little more emphasis on the high frequencies. Still good in my opinion, just different. I certainly agree the Ulanzi performance is awesome at a fraction of the price!

I just won the ulanzi from an online local auction for 14$ I see the dji on there often but I always miss it with the auctions so I'm excited to see how well it does I hate my own voice but I really want to up my game with online video production

To get a good quality recording you almost always have to mix and master, so for these engineers (-> dynamic range, "head room") the order is as follows:
#1 Rode #2 DJI #3 Ulanzi. But if you're doing normal acceptable UA-cam-ready average joe quality, I don't see any problems with Ulanzi.
Well for the optimal audio quality you would need to do that to any microphone, but straight out of recorder (which most people will use) the Ulanzi sounds good. Thanks for the comment
Deity the best very clear difference on a headset, and Ulanzi as good as the other wireless mic with small difference (too small to worry about) with exception of the Rode mic which had a big difference - worse sound and a noticeable noise floor

Rode has a very bright sound, quite processed (which is good in most cases). Ulanzi did great and was almost as good as the DJI Mic 2. I hope they got the UI and the wireless connectivity right - because as it looks like, it is better than the Hohem Mic01 which has similar price.
This year we finally see a lot of great budget wireless mics!

Shocked I am still RODE is the worst sound here.
The Ulanzi sound quality is far too close to the other two options to justify paying hundreds more for either one of them. Ulanzi hit a home run in my opinion.

To be honest they all 3 sounded very similar to me. Obviously the Deity sounded the best . The others wear slightly less rich sounding but that might be the preamps on the recording device making the difference. The Ulanzi definitely held its own against the more expensive versions
Yes they were pretty close but someone can’t go wrong with the Ulanzi
