To the left of Kiosk featured @2:20 is the oldest restaurant in the city, Szazeves Etterem, which opened in the early 1800s. It's pretty good so if you have time, pay a visit. There are better places but the atmosphere is pretty cool. Really enjoyed eating my way around Budapest. 👍
I made chicken paprikash for the first time about a month ago. The absolutely vital thing is fresh paprika. I grew up thinking paprika was a mild pointless spice until I found out the flavor dies out pretty quickly compared to other spices.
The hottest one scores 5000 SHU, but the usual scale is from 0 to 500 SHUs. Hungarian paprikas are produced in 7 basic categories. Delicacy: Red Light, sweet spicy, juicy, very slightly spicy, is not as finely ground as a special pepper. Sweet-noble: Darker than tasty, juicy, slightly pungent, delicious and medium-sized pepper. Semi-sweet: Lighter, lighter than sweet-noble, typically spicy, pleasantly spicy, medium-sized. Rose: Quite pungent, red, medium grain. Sonya Graske I’ve probably had it before, but I’m Mexican cooking, we use Jalapeños, and other chiles. Their use of it is probably similar to our use of Lime. I put that shit on everything.
If its dried you mostly feel the standard taste of a paprika and spicypness. I've never seen any masochist ear pure paprika powder so you only feel the indescribable and characteristic taste within the food. Also, not every paprika is spicy, powder isn't really usually.
It is a pepper powder. Not really hot but a good flavor. The flavor almost completely goes away after awhile so if your paprika sits around for too long, might as well toss it.
It depends on the type. Generally, it's more earthy than black pepper, but doesn't quite taste like chilli powder. I'm not Hungarian, but I normally have hot paprika, 'normal' paprika and smoked paprika in my cupboard. These three have different levels of sweetness, heat and flavour/aroma. I massively prefer the smoked paprika and I put it in nearly anything. It's probably my favourite spice.
Just like hungary, in india you can find these everywhere. In each and every household in india people use paprika in the forms of flakes, dried peppers and powder
I am happy that this channel notices a country that is so small and barely noticeable (I live in Hungary (here is proof:én félig Magyar és Skót vagyok Apukám Skót anyukám Magyar)
I'm an Indian and I don't find paprika much spicy they are made from mild peppers. Chilli powder is more potent and we use it regularly to spice our dishes.
Oh great, we Indians don't use paprika much because it is almost not that spicy for us, but we have different spices and bell peppers. Interesting that pepper was considered a precious commodity in the olden times, pepper have been a staple in Indian food for over 2 millennium and even earlier, due to being in plenty here. I would like to taste some of the spiciest traditional dishes of Hungary when I visit it this winter, please do suggest some.
Hungarians mainly eat sweet peppers and sweet paprika, So dont expect the food to be hot or spicy, also you are wrong the first peppers planted in india were by the portuguese in Goa, So india did not have peppers for " 2 millennium " like you said peppers were discovered by Christopher Columbus, Maybe you mean black pepper. The portuguese also brought over potatoes to india none of this was native to the old world only in the americas and europeans brought over all new fruits and vegitables from the americas changing the way we all eat.
@@Tomtomtomtomtomtomtom75kg yes its black pepper and also, all the spices of Europe and Africa went from Hindu India only, they were having just raw or roasted meat before the use of spices taught by India. Potatoes and tomatoes aren't native to us and thus, aren't used in many traditional Hindu dishes as well, so yes we know our 5000+years origins and are proud of it as well. And we are the only culture unaffected by Abrahamic culture after all.
Stop saying Buda-pest! It's pronounced (booda-pesht). You even said it correctly in the beginning. It's actually really ann oying for us, hungarians to hear. Great video, thanks guys👍

so its name is százéves, and that mean 100 years old... but if it was opened in 1800, its name should be kétszázéves, so 200 years old at least
+Zalán Faragó Yup. Opened in 1831. I imagine they are asked about the name quite often.
Budapest is a great city and I had a great time there. Lots of love from Berlin to Budapest!

It’s slipping my mind, what does paprika taste like? I’m imagining a type of pepper powder but I could’ve sworn it was sweeter or something.
It's better

From what I've had (McCormick's), it's sweet and not hot at all.

The Wanderer Finnis and Hungary are "ancient relatives"
Regular household all over the World: Salt and Pepper
Hungarian household: Salt and Paprika
in Latvian paprika means bell pepper and i have been confused for ages why people call that spice paprika
In Hungarian paprika means bell pepper, chili pepper and this stuff :'D
What is the different between this paprika and chili???
Paprika isn't hot, it's barely spicy so we use it like salt and pepper.

Paprika. I was wondering where I first heard it. And then I realized I read about it from Bram Stoker's Dracula.
I'm an Indian and I don't find paprika much spicy they are made from mild peppers. Chilli powder is more potent and we use it regularly to spice our dishes.
Paprika is to Hungarians more like what coriander or fenugreek is to Indians.
Ashwin Meshram Yeah, we mainly use it for flavoring, not for the spice
Ashwin Meshram What is the difference between paprika and chilli powder
+sundance cassidy
Heat levels. Paprika powder is not hot. Like at all.
paprika only means ''pepper''

I wonder how Hungarians would react to bird's eye chillies, habaneros, and Scotch bonnets...
Well we eat those too! Paprika isn't really spicy and nobody uses it for that, it's just for flavoring like salt and pepper.
I use paprika for the red colour and sweet chilli taste without the spiciness.

It's ususally not spicy but there is a spicy version that's like a very mild chili
the hottest native hungarian paprika is about 5000 scoville so its milder than jalapeno. I think the powder version is 2500 tops
Ardealul tot al nostru este.
It’s funny how as a Hungarian i ate little to no paprika.
