Wow what a blessing, have missed you, Thursday morning here in Riverland -2 this morning having breakfast while I watch. Food banks are wonderful for those who need them. I'm 71, we were a family of 3 boys and myself with a single mother, no foodbank in the day, remember my mother would get some of the chooks wheat wash it well soak it over night and then fry it off and then put in an onion, if she had one, and chopped silver beat from the garden, add stock or water and cook until tender, we had this occasionally when the cupboard was empty. Mothers do what they have to do.

What a wonderful amount of food, so many different things. I cant wait to see you start making videos of meals you make from the food or even some sweets like banana cake, bread or muffins. with all of those veggies a stir fry would be lovely and a nice hearty stew or soup.

I did end up making a noodle dish with the Choy Sum one night and a stir fry with some of the vegetables another night too, it was so nice to have some extra greens. I see agree with it being like Christmas! When I go to a pantry where the food is all packed for me, I try not to look until I can get it home and unpack it because it's more fun if it's as much of a surprise as possible.

Hey Carolina! Thanks, yes I'm so glad I discovered this new food pantry too! It's great to have another option and place available to assist with groceries. Getting the hamper was amazing and so helpful for my family. Also knowing now that we can come and get fruit, veggies and bread for free on weekdays whenever we need to will be a tremendous help and relief - especially on those weeks when there's not much left in the budget for food!
That was absolutely amazing to watch! The steak looked really good, my hubby would have loved it (I don't eat meat) and your kids are in for some lovely treats. So much fruit too, so very healthy! before you freeze the bread check the packaging some are put hot in bag and the plastic has little holes in it to let the heat out if you freeze them it will dry out your bread, so check and repackage them in plastic without little holes.
Just a thought, those hamburger buns type rolls could be made into a kind of garlic bread type of side. I have done that with leftover rolls. Cut in half then butter and season. I like to mix the seasoning on the roll in the butter a bit then fry butter side down in a skillet until toasty and the color you desire. Cheap and easy. I don't know what you have available in Australia but I like to use Mrs Dash garlic and herb or sometimes Montreal steak seasoning but go light on that one or just a little garlic salt is good.
I agree! It was so fantastic to get all the shampoo and soaps... it's the little things that make all the difference when you're on a tight budget, such a big help!

The hygiene items may come from hotel leftovers. There's an organization called CLEAN THE WORLD, and it gathers all the little soaps, bath items, etc from resorts and hotels. Then packages them up into bags kinda like yours to give out to those in need. You really received a lot this time. Too bad it's only for every 3 months or so. I've found it is good to have several pantries to choose from. Not all are good, not all are always available, and getting to them can sometimes be an issue.

Vegemite is an Aussie food spread made from leftover brewers' yeast extract with different vegetable and spice additives. It has a savory, salty taste. This new food pantry does still allow you come everyday, Monday to Friday for free fruit, vegetables and bread (and you can also buy discounted low cost shelf items if you want)... it's just the free grocery hamper with the pantry/cold items that you can only get once every 3 months. It would be great if the hamper was more regular, but any help is welcome and much appreciated. Luckily we have 3 other food banks also nearby where I can get weekly grocery hampers from for a low cost as well to help out.

In the US, toiletries are absolutely NOT part of the food bank. That is really lucky. That cute zippie they made is lovely. Would never be done in the US. Bare necessities for food.

Oh my goodness. I’m so happy for you!!! What an amazing haul. I went to our little pantry last week for the first time. It was a small box, but lots of things I needed. I also received a bag of household things. Laundry soap, bath soap, toilet cleaner, disinfectant spray, toilet paper, paper towels, dish scrubbies, toothpaste and toothbrush, and a few other things I can’t remember. How wonderful all that produce, bread and steaks! I googled Scotch Filet and they are what we call ribeye steaks. Those are monster steaks and in my opinion the best cut of beef ever!!! Such a blessing. I found out there is a larger food bank that you drive through on Tuesdays twice a month. First Tuesday is for pantry staples and meats and second is for fresh produce. Hoping I get to go. 🥰

I'm lucky to have several food banks in our area... they all operate slightly different, it's nice to have some options depending upon what you can afford for the week. I will still be going to the other Thursday food bank with the cold bags when I'm able to - I find their frozen meals to be great value.

I know I did say in another video, but those ready meals look great, they've certainly come a long way since I was sat in front of the TV with one of those on my knee as a kid. Handy to take to work. I don't know if you have shown what they are like when they are plated up but it would be good to see. Cracking hauls as always. If you run out of food you can always start on the toiletries, as you say some smell good enough to eat, lol.

The hamper this food pantry provides is available only once every 3 months (but you can go each week for bread and fruit and veggies still) so that might also explain the larger quantity they give you, definitely was so amazing! @@makingendsmeet when we got the first ones I froze some. When he got home from the hospital the second time I made a cake to go with them, the second bunch we are eating with cake and ice cream. I'll probably put these in freezer. I gave 6 away out of all of them. We lost all our berries about 2 years ago and I made jam and froze berries. Wes has seeds started to put out in a stair step container we bought last year. With myself filling the new raised beds and having to rest a day in between or two it been pure heck. I tried the Huglekulture this year instead of taking downed limbs to city brush dump. We started all our plants in house this year. It gave him something to do while waiting for the tests for his surgery. I have no idea what plants cost this year. We have had a time finding soil. Wal-Mart and Rural King ran out but see Rural king has some now. So he will try driving to get it if he feels okay and if not one of the kids will. We will roll it into garden cart to garden. So I guess the Huglekulture this year was suppose to be. LOL SORRY TO WRITE A BOOK

I had some strawberries in my garden a few years ago and sadly lost mine too when we had a very hot dry summer. My kids have been onto me to get some more strawberry plants again - they're so fun to pick! Hope all the effort you and your husband have put in pays off and you get lots of berries to harvest🍓😊

In the US, toiletries are absolutely NOT part of the food bank. That is really lucky. That cute zippie they made is lovely. Would never be done in the US. Bare necessities for food.

Oh my goodness. I’m so happy for you!!! What an amazing haul. I went to our little pantry last week for the first time. It was a small box, but lots of things I needed. I also received a bag of household things. Laundry soap, bath soap, toilet cleaner, disinfectant spray, toilet paper, paper towels, dish scrubbies, toothpaste and toothbrush, and a few other things I can’t remember. How wonderful all that produce, bread and steaks! I googled Scotch Filet and they are what we call ribeye steaks. Those are monster steaks and in my opinion the best cut of beef ever!!! Such a blessing. I found out there is a larger food bank that you drive through on Tuesdays twice a month. First Tuesday is for pantry staples and meats and second is for fresh produce. Hoping I get to go. 🥰

Wow! The is amazing! We don’t call that cut Scotch Fillets here in the states, so I googled it and we call them ribeyes…..WHOA!!! Those are really prized cuts of steak. My jaw dropped at that. Enjoy!

I'm lucky to have several food banks in our area... they all operate slightly different, it's nice to have some options depending upon what you can afford for the week. I will still be going to the other Thursday food bank with the cold bags when I'm able to - I find their frozen meals to be great value.

I know I did say in another video, but those ready meals look great, they've certainly come a long way since I was sat in front of the TV with one of those on my knee as a kid. Handy to take to work. I don't know if you have shown what they are like when they are plated up but it would be good to see. Cracking hauls as always. If you run out of food you can always start on the toiletries, as you say some smell good enough to eat, lol.

Wow! What a great haul you got from that pantry! I was going to say that's way more than what I get, but then you mentioned that you're a family of four, which makes sense. There are only two of us (sometimes three). It's great to see everything that you got!
Thanks, yes it certainly was so incredible to get everything we did, it will all be such a big help. The hamper this food pantry provides is available only once every 3 months (but you can go each week for bread and fruit and veggies still) so that might also explain the larger quantity they give you, definitely was so amazing! @@makingendsmeet when we got the first ones I froze some. When he got home from the hospital the second time I made a cake to go with them, the second bunch we are eating with cake and ice cream. I'll probably put these in freezer. I gave 6 away out of all of them. We lost all our berries about 2 years ago and I made jam and froze berries. Wes has seeds started to put out in a stair step container we bought last year. With myself filling the new raised beds and having to rest a day in between or two it been pure heck. I tried the Huglekulture this year instead of taking downed limbs to city brush dump. We started all our plants in house this year. It gave him something to do while waiting for the tests for his surgery. I have no idea what plants cost this year. We have had a time finding soil. Wal-Mart and Rural King ran out but see Rural king has some now. So he will try driving to get it if he feels okay and if not one of the kids will. We will roll it into garden cart to garden. So I guess the Huglekulture this year was suppose to be. LOL SORRY TO WRITE A BOOK
Hey Jane! That's no worries hehe! 🍰Cake, ice cream and strawberries sounds like a perfect way to eat them - yum! You can't beat homegrown strawberries, there's nothing like growing your own. I had some strawberries in my garden a few years ago and sadly lost mine too when we had a very hot dry summer. My kids have been onto me to get some more strawberry plants again - they're so fun to pick! Hope all the effort you and your husband have put in pays off and you get lots of berries to harvest🍓😊
