To re-fresh greens, just trim the base of the stem and stand the stalks in room temperature water, works fine with celery.

Thanks Robyn😊 Yes the fresh fruit and veggies are always welcome. I was lucky to get a free 'Flybuys' offer to try a delicious 'Spice Tailor' Classic Tarka Daal (with lentils) from the supermarket... so the pumpkin, potato and greens were perfect to bulk it out to feed everyone!

@@makingendsmeet Wes looked for Loofah seeds at Wal-Mart. We have tomatoes plants that he re potted yesterday. He's got to turn on heat again in garage plus the lights.
Wow two pantry hauls make for one ginormous haul !!! With the veggies you got I see a BIG salad with carrot shreds , cauliflower , onion, zucchini , maybe some cheese and or some chicken strips and your favorite salad dressing and a piece of toasted bread with butter . 😋 yummy ! 🤠💕💕

Great items! Sometimes standing your asparagus up in a glass of cool water can bring it back to a plumper state. Even wilted it may be good sauted or in a cream of asparagus soup.
Thank you and thanks for the tip too😊 Yes, I did manage to salvage a good bit of the asparagus, which I finely diced up and added to a half a bag of potato, leek and Gorgonzola soup (frozen, from a previous food bank haul) along with a can of creamed corn and some frozen peas... it was a great addition and made the soup super delicious!

You haven't had a Fare Share freezer meal in a bit. The crumb chicken looked like a breaded chicken patty, you could heat them and slice up to put on top of a big salad to add some protein to it.

Lots of good fruits and veggies. Your Petro for your car I have heard is much more than it is here, but I am afraid ours will be going up soon, I am glad I have a small car that gets good gas mileage. Have a wonderful week.

Right at the moment we can not afford veggies. Our food pantry has not been sourcing any. We are going into spring soon so looking forward to fresh veggies. Very nice amount of fruit and veggies you have this time. Blessings for sure.

Wow that was great for $5 total cash spent! I know with some leafy veg, if you put it in cold water, it will plump up. Maybe it’ll help with that wilted item you received.

Yes great idea Kim! Things like the watermelon, pumpkin and capsicum seeds will be making their way out to my garden!
Hey, how are you. You did really well again, it's good to see you are still getting extras to help the budget, like the toilet paper and the kids have a treat. Quite a few of the big supermarkets do offers for Easter, half price joint's and Salmon, I tend to fill my freezer, they also do great veg offers, spuds, carrots, broccoli, parsnips and lots of other options from 0.22 to 0.15p. One of what we call a freezer shop is selling frozen full size leg's of NZ lamb for £10!
I try and buy what is on offer, so mushrooms are on at 0.89p so I'm eating loads. 😂

Hey Al😊 I'm good thanks. We've had very UK weather here today... it's been overcast and raining on and off all day, but at least I don't have to water the garden, so that's great! Thanks so much. Yes always handy to get the TP and the kids were pleased too. That sounds like some great specials over there, you're wise to stock up while things are cheap. Ooh I love mushrooms, fried with some garlic and/or onions they're so good even by themselves on toast. Sometimes after the rain here we're lucky and can pick field mushrooms. Do you ever go foraging for any? Hope you have a good week too. Take care💕
They have a small orchard on the allotment site, but you have to be up with the Lark to get your hands on them, my dad used to bring them home when we lived in the country, but new housing is swallowing the land up. I've been cooking the mushrooms with onions in a tray bake with spices, low calorie and filling. Think we have a bit of your sunshine today 😁. Take care. X

Hello MEM. Although you don't get a lot of any one veg for your $5, you do get a decent amount over all, and there are quite a few meals you can make using small amounts of lots of things. I think of things like curry and soups or stews, though they might be a bit warming for you in at this time of year over in sunny Australia. You got some lovely stuff in both the hauls, and though they might not be as big as some you have had, they are still very good. Those little loaves look delicious.

So soups, stews and curries sound very appealing right now... and yes perfect for using up any random veggies! I’m amazed at the lovely produce you get. That’s the real expense in my weekly budget. And the cheese buns look very substantial for a breakfast or lunch. Love seeing what you get. TFS.
Hey Elizabeth😊 Thank you, yes there's been some really nice fruit and veggies lately (and those cheese buns are so tasty too, great for meals)! Food prices at the supermarkets are getting so costly, aren't they?! To go out to the supermarket and buy all of this would be out of reach on our current budget, it really is a tremendous help to get what we do.
Most of our produce comes from the clearance section of the grocery or one of the two pantries that I go to each month.
Yes looking out for clearance items at the store can save you heaps sometimes.

I went to Aldi and got a box of food and it was $35. It wasn’t a very big box and I don’t think anything was more than $5. Goodness food has gotten crazy.
Hey Christine😊 Hasn't it ever! Yes it's not like it used to be anymore. Supermarket prices are becoming ridiculous! Growing some of your own food is going to become more important in the coming months and years I think with the way the world is.
@@makingendsmeet Don’t I know it! I was just out planting some potatoes and I had a salad yesterday and today of greens from my garden. I’ve got a pot of homegrown spinach ready to process in the fridge. I’m concentrating on growing what I like to eat more this year!

Hi! This is a very nice food pantry hauls. Asian pears are my favourate. They are very expensive. So they are a treat. Are the white washed potatoes potatoes that had their skin cleaned off by water or are they white potatoes?

Be careful of the bok choy. Cut in very small pieces. I almost choked to death on a piece of thread from bok choy in a Chinese restaurant..I am very carefil of threads in celery and green beans

You can it uk if you go to store called lidi near part you put your shopping away they sell mixed box of vegetables and fruit for £1.50 in dollars it's $1.80 cent for mixed box
