- Here's a Special PSSS Ship Feature and Tribute to a well-loved Ferry that served the islands of the Visayas and Mindanao: M/V Filipinas Dinagat of Cokaliong Shipping Lines Inc.
She was the former Soya Maru No 2 of Higashi Nihon Ferry when she was still in Japan. She was acquired by Cokaliong Shipping Lines in 1994 and was renamed as M/V Filipinas Dinagat.
Last July 23 2020, M/V Filipinas Dinagat was caught fire off the coast of Northern Cebu while underway to Palompon. As reported there were no passengers and all the crew including the captains were rescued. The fire was placed under control around 10am in the morning the next day.

I was an apprentice mate of this vessel way back in 1994. She was Cokaliong's jewel at that time. Such a tragic loss for this good vessel. Hoping that she will rise again.
I have lots of childhood memories on board M/V Filipinas Dinagat. My family always travel from Cebu to Dapitan every summer and Christmas so that we can spend time with my grandparents. I remember the joy and excitement whenever it leaves Cebu port, and the sorrow everytime it leaves Dapitan. I can still remember spending my late nights (before arriving in Dumaguete) on the roof deck and eat the instant noodles and biscuits that was sold on board; I get up the next day and enjoy the sun and wind, spend the rest of the voyage up there as I watch Dapitan get closer. Sometimes I would witness Cokaliong and GP race each other towards Dapitan after departing from Dumaguete, I'd wave at the other kids from the other ferry and would feel the rush.
That was my summer and Christmas seasons, but when I finished College, I never got to come with my family anymore. They switched to Medallion when they started serving non-stop voyages between Cebu and Dipolog, which made their travel time shorter both at sea and on land. I hope Cokaliong gets to transfer to Dipolog in the future.

Noong 10 years old palang ako nag punta kami sa mindanao kase from CEBU TO DUMAGUETE TO DAPITAN ang route nito noon kaya noong time panungo na kami sa DAPITAN hindi ko malimutan na tayming na nandoon kami sa aking ama sa itaas yung maraming lamisa at nasa dulo kami pero kinabahan kami dahil muntik mag banggaan ang PILIPINAS DINAGAT na sinakyan namin at SUPERCAT.
Mabuti nalang yung sinakyan namin madaling naka iwas.
at isa pa yung hindi ko malimutan. Yung nag saklolo kami sa mga crew dyan sa barko dahil ang pitaka sa aking ina ay ninanakaw ng kasamahan naming passenger mabuti nalang at nakita namin yung babae at pa baba na sana sa barko
at nag pasalamat kami sa lahat ng crew ng barko

This is the very ship that brought me closer to my dreams in Cebu. This was last Jan 31, 2008. Thank you for the service.
One of the oldest passenger ferry still running on waters but sad to say, she bid her last farewell to her caretakers and people. You will be miss MV Filipinas Dinagat. Hope you come back soon and serve again for the passengers.
Mas matanda yung MV Georich ng GP , Made in 1964 . Brought to the Philippines in 1972 , serving until now .
@@cheezwhiz6650 di ko naman sinabi po na pinaka old na yung Filipinas Dinagat. Sabi ko nga po one of the oldest. Maraming lumang barko na naglalayag pa rin sa karagatan. Di lang Georich or anu paman yan. Read back comments ko po sa una. 😌

It‘s so sad to see what happened to her. I hope she will be reconsidered to be put back in service after renovation.
I have traveled Cokaliong Dumaguete to Cebu a few times, all through the night ,,

This was one of the Ship of my uncle CAPT. ERBEN LUMBAB one of Cokaliong Shipping Capt.This ship opened Cebu-Iligan-Cebu trip dating way back 2006-2007. It's sad, it made the most tragic event for the expanding fleet of their company.

Back in college, My friends and I used to take this ship on the way to dumaguete back in 1996, since my friend is from dgte and we would often decide to spend our weekend there, we would often rush to the pier right after our 5pm class to catch the ferry to dumaguete. I ride that MV Filipinas Dinagat like every long time ago from Cebu to surigao
i personally rode it enroute to Surigao, to Calbayog, Dumaguete, Dapitan and Palompon staying at their only good for two cabin , the Melgar Room.
Generally, nindot o okey ra gyud nga barko although, tiguwang na gyud pod.
Basig paliton ra ni sa taga Lite himoong full ro/ro cargopass vessel.

This is a very tragic experience. Thanks that there is no passenger when that happened. Sabi nga sa video may mga crew. Ano ang ginawa ng crew paticularly the officer and the Captain. The Master has the overall in command at alam niya in that situation, his crew, deck and engine is the first line of defense. So many question will rise. Ano ang ginagawa nila? Are the fire figthing equipment working? The fire alarm working? Are the crew regularly conducting the drill? And so many question. My fellow seafarer, out there we always expect for the worst that can be possibly happened. Not being negative, but to be alert, aware and attentive.
Life is more precious than those things.
So better save your self first.
Yes they are conducting fire drill,. Specially when fil. Dinagat cAn dOcked in dapitan port,. Bcoz only dapitan port can have an exceeding time.. 😊😉

Hindi madali byahe nya dalawang pwerto din siya not like the other sister vessel direct ang byahe.. At 4 hours lang standby nya every port,. Pag dock baba agad mga pasahero mga ilang minuto paboarding agad..
@@djnatthew7058 Alam mo tama ka, iyan din ang draw back dito sa atin sa domestic. Dahil sa mga short voyages giving much importance sa mga pasahero at pagpapahinga ng mga crew magkaminsan hindi na makapag drill. This will give a challenge sa big 4 ( Master, Ch. Mate, Ch. Engineer and Second Engineer) how to conduct a realistic drill.

Onboard ako ng cadet ko sa cebu nakikita ko pa yan sa wharf sa manduae pag dumadaong kami doon kita ko na talagang finufully repair sya yr 2018 non meron pa kaming nakakalaro sa basketball dadayo sila sa barko namen kasi Lct sya pag wala pa kami kargada nagbabasketball kami mga cadet din ng barko na yan or crew . Tapos ngayon nasunog lang . Sana makabalik kapa sa service
Baka tuloyan na iyang ipa - B.U. ng may ari kasi medyo redundant na ang mga passenger ships ngayong panahon dahil sa COVID19 Nationwide Travel ban .

I hope Cokaliong will upgrade their old vessels or ships and invest a knew passenger ships because their ships is more than fifty years old unsafe for passengers. Francize must be cancelled for shipping lines wake up call for mr Tugade.
