Happy New Year and thank you, Mark for another wonderful #barkovlog. My late father was part of the team that initially developed the port of Masao as an alternate facility to serve vessels that were unable to enter the Agusan River back in the early 70s. Bistranco's old ex-FS ships can get in (to some extent) and traverse the Agusan and reach their docks near Butuan City as their vessels were much smaller compared to Escano, Sulpicio, Trans-Asia, and Gothong. All of Bistranco's captains delay their scheduled departures in Cebu just to make sure that the tides are right when their vessels reach the river delta in the afternoon hours thus abling their respective ships to pass the mouth of the Agusan. Masao port didn't have any PPA presence initially, nor it was gated and fenced. When Nasipit became the official port facilities for Butuan, Masao still was used as the alternate port. Because of the heavy siltation that resulted from the Agusan and Masao River's periodic flooding, small freighters are the only vessels that use the port of Masao on a regular basis. It took more than twenty years for passenger vessels to make port calls to Masao again.
20:00 - 20:06 - Reminds me of the time I took Garlos A. Gothong Lines' M/V Don Calvino voyage back to Cebu from Nasipit in the summer of 1984. Me and my Uncle (my mother's cousin) stayed in the open air economy accommodation where the sound of the wind and the wakes' turbulence envelopes one's ears. Some passengers had a hard time sleeping because of it. Me, on the other hand, slept like a baby.
Nakabyahe ba ni siya'g Iloilo-Cebu route around 2019? Can't remember if nasakyan nako ni that time or ang Filipinas Nasipit pero familiar ang photos sa iyang pag-acquire around 9:00... :D
Too bad some of the ship's crew during the undocking maneuver did NOT wear the prescribed PPE (Personnel Protective Equipment). Some of them are just wearing shirts, shorts and flipflops (slipper sandals). I wish next time they will wear the prescribed PPE (Hard Hat, Safety Shoes, Cover-all uniform and Safety Working Gloves).
This looks like an older vessel. They need to improve further their Toilets (Others call it Comfort Rooms) Many Toilet fixtures seems too old and needs replacement.
@@Burst_beys I am not sure on that 60 years but I think MARINA has laws that state for inter-island ships in the Philippines must be operating at MAXIMUM of 30 years. I wish MARINA should strictly implement its laws. Problem if some shipping companies and some government officials compromise because of Money.
What i noticed to the crew is, they dont wear coveralls, hardhats and shoes very unprofessional, i hope they could correct this for they own safety....peace
That's not even a Passenger Terminal. Its a Cargo Warehouse !!! Poor passengers they are forced to wait without airconditioning and even without ventilation fans !!!

It's just normal for roros in the Philippines. No injury often happens because there must be a contract to be a worker or smth
@@Burst_beys MARINA should strictly implement its rules and laws. Period.

Many of the mattresses of the bunks are also shown as being worn out with torn covers. Many mattresses should be fixed.
This looks like an older vessel. They need to improve further their Toilets (Others call it Comfort Rooms)
Many Toilet fixtures seems too old and needs replacement.
Well of course. They need to preserve and use the only resources they have. RORO ships are meant to last around 30-60 years

Why always all the ferries in the phillipines made in japan? At least not in china
Pinaka way ayo nga pantalan
