I saw them just weeks ago, but you right , without Dennis its not the same Although the Energy was definitely there .. I cant understand why they can not put their Differences aside, and fill some STADIUMS .. A New Generation is waiting for them... We had 65 + Year olds ( original fans) and 20 year olds in the Audience. Tommy shaw was throwing his Guitar Picks to Young Girls .. like the old days . Come on guys
It really is. I’m a proponent that bohemian rhapsody is probably the greatest song ever written. But come sail away is so much closer to it than other people think. As an amateur piano player, the intro still never ceases to amaze me. It really is something else. The whole song is just jaw-dropping. Should’ve been a #1 hit. Def top 5 of all time. Maybe tied with stairway to heaven for #2. I like come sail away far more than I do stairway I’m just trying to be objective
Yes! And I was watching them live (with original band members plus Tommy Shaw who just joined) in 1976 "Crystal Ball" tour in Burlington, Vermont and they were AWESOME!!!!
Once upon a time there was an era called "The Eighties", better known as "The 80's". An era of no prerecorded vocal tracks in live performances, where technology didn't come to the aid of the under skilled musician. Just plain and pure talent. The piano is opera-like, CD quality. His voice is crisp, and he can even afford the luxury of talking to the audience, just in case you could not believe he could sound so good live. The Eighties, i guess 80% music - 20% hairstyle. Ended 12-31-89.
He had a great piano teacher. He bounces off the keys, he plays in, and he plays with expression. Playing piano is all about the writers. ❤. Best instrument!
There is something magical about Dennis DeYoung and Tommy Shaw singing together. While I have the utmost respect for Lawrence’s talent, I would give my left foot if Dennis and Tommy could put aside their differences, and play together just one more time. What a way to emerge from this shitty pandemic that would be.
Dennis was more than a rocker he had a showtune side. The rest of the members never connected with that side. But there was a place for it in the Paradise Theatre.
That woman who hopped on stage did what no one else could do. She made Tommy and Dennis swing arm in arm together and act happy. Who would've thought those two HATED each other meanwhile?
RavenGames101 Beautiful as that was, it was probably part of the show since no security people removed her, she was gently let back into the audience, and she knew the right time to let go of Tommy so he could play his lead part.
I read something earlier today that stated that back in the day, Dennis would get the crowd so fired up that they'd rush the stage.. much to the chagrin of security. He also kept on doing that, and I think the lucky lady who was given the opportunity to swing along with Dennis and Tommy was likely encouraged by Dennis.
I can see Dennis and Tommy being interested in reuniting, but James Young, I think, still has legitimate hatred towards Dennis, and I don’t think he wants to reunite with him anytime soon.
No matter what life brings you... in the Worst of TImes.. see STYX for your inspiration to carry on or KICK some ass.. which ever applies best. Peace All !
I saw them on tour for this album Kilroy was Here at the town center in NYC and then again at the Meadowlands arena. Styx is one of my favorite bands of all times. I wish Dennis was still with the group. RIP John, and to the rest of the guys keep on rocking
This is pure joy! I was looking at a different version, but it seemed to be the radio version overlaid onto a video. This is obviously not the radio version, but they still sound spectacular. Man alive, I miss musicians with TALENT!
Dennis is Styx. The rest is repleacable standard rock'n'roll musicians. Who on earth is going to see a Styx concert without Dennis? I would pay hard earned cash just to see and hear Dennis singing and playing whatever keybord he choses. He is part of my life. F*** all other band members. They would be nothing without Dennis - the man.
tonkashouse That band wouldn't be what it is (and wouldn't even have the repertoire) without Dennis. They are just rock'n'roll guys like a thousand others - excellent ones yes, but without Dennis they would be nothing. None of them. People want to see Styx and make due with the next best thing - but it it ain't Styx. And please man: never ever get sales mixed up with quality. Guns whores and drugs sell like hotcakes - does that make them great?
Thousands go to see Styx without Dennis because their new singer sounds very similar. I love Dennis AND Styx and to me, the music goes beyond any celebrity. I appreciate both in their own right. Tommy Shaw's vocals are just as much Styx.
Mister young your a blessed man with alot of talent and a first class act. To me and your fans you will always be styks always! Your the best! Keep on doing this lifting up America's spirit because you always show the way god bless you and your family from my family! Take care gary baxter from vacaville, california.
May 2020, im 46 yrs. Old . saw him a few years back best concert ive ever saw. And ive seen alot pop, rock, heavy metal, country, opera, symphony's,etc. Still over all the best live concert ive ever saw so far. Everything was PERFECT ! Thank you for the memory. Very few i can truly say i enjoyed in this hell of a life.
I saw them at the Meadowlands and that small theater in NYC also. I think it was called City Center Theater. Great shows! Dennis is a musical genius. I wish JY and Tommy would get their heads out of their butts and get him back in the band. Then again....I wonder if he would go back.
See, this video is an example of what made this such a GREAT BAND....they wrote music and lyrics that could be performed and understood by the audience, most bands have difficulty reproducing many of their songs live that were hits and done well in the studio....but these guys made music that they could reproduce well live...nothing less and nothing more..one of the best bands collectively, if not EVER, certainly during the late 70's and the 80's.....Thanks for all the GREAT song's, made allot of good times GREAT....!!!! Thanx to styxfankc15 for posting it...BADA$$ 80's....Rated ~XXX~
This is how I want to remeber STYX. The ORIGINAL band members.Through the years I have heard that Styx broke up because of creative differances. Tommy Shaw wanted more hard rock guitar solos, Does he realize that the solos he does are absolutely brilliant? Dennis DeYoung, one of the World's Greatest singing voices. John Panozzo one of the best drummers in the World, yet so underrated. (RIP John). This group broke up in the prime of their careers and we as fans have suffered because of it.
I agree with you 100%. Journey with Steve Perry and Styx with Dennis were 2 of the best bands to see live. If it wasn't for Dennis there would be no Tommy Shaw.
Just like Journey the lead singer's ran they're course. Sometimes it's for the best. When the lead singer is SO powerful as Dennis and Steve Perry were and you have other BIG EGOS in the band, eventually shits gonna hit the fan and it eventually did for both bands. Let's be thankful for what we got. Dennis is still touring and so is Styx and Lawrence McGowan does a respectable job. He will NEVER be Dennis nor should he have to be. I know one thing, Styx should be in the ROR HOF. 5 straight triple platinum albums in a row. NEVER happened until Styx did it. Fuck you HOF committee for not letting Styx into the dance.
Tommy was a great addition, but as a non-original member, he asserted too much. Styx though was a 70’s band. Their sound wasn’t going to continue in the 80’s for long. Music changes, just glad they were a part
Agreed, without Dennis, Styz is incomplete. Saw them in concert without them in the 90's at the Coors Amp. in San Diego. Gotta give respect......they were GOOD. But, without Dennis, they WERE missing a member.
8 років тому+2
it was a long ago when i recieved the lp as a gift from my grandmother i heard today this song a lot memories come to me am touched
God, it is not only the music but also the lyrics that make this music so inspiring and makes you feel all right! Come and sail away in 2022 despite wars, COBIT, and all those things that divide us!
Just had to add, I loved how DDY recruited TS when the lady came on stage, & I guess security wasn't so much back then. Class act to dance & sing & not miss a beat w/ her. =) Both of them. =)
The originals , Dennis , Chuck , John , James and Tommy ( although Tommy not true original, but you get me ) Can't be beat ! One of the greatest bands of all time . Legendary.
No auto tune. No backing vocals. Just pure talent
Absolutely!!!!
there's no styx without Dennis DeYoung! period!
Dennis is the classic voice, but I saw them this past summer and Lawrence Gowan didn't sound bad on most of the songs.
I agree
I saw them just weeks ago, but you right , without Dennis its not the same Although the Energy was definitely there .. I cant understand why they can not put their Differences aside, and fill some STADIUMS .. A New Generation is waiting for them... We had 65 + Year olds ( original fans) and 20 year olds in the Audience. Tommy shaw was throwing his Guitar Picks to Young Girls .. like the old days . Come on guys
Styx is fine without Dennis in my opinion.
Absolutely
With Dennis Deyoung, Styx was on top of the Rock World.
Without Dennis, Styx is incomplete. The fans want to hear the sound Styx originally created-it was magical.
R.I.P. Johnny
The voice of an Angel. There is only one Dennis DeYoung. ❤
One of the best songs of all time.
Yes it is, its a shame that Gowan is now butchering it ;-(
This was my high school graduation song in 1982
It really is. I’m a proponent that bohemian rhapsody is probably the greatest song ever written. But come sail away is so much closer to it than other people think. I agree and I'm a direhard who fan punk rocker this is amazing
Anyone else watching in 2020, wow!!!
Danny Reno 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Me!
Yes! And I was watching them live (with original band members plus Tommy Shaw who just joined) in 1976 "Crystal Ball" tour in Burlington, Vermont and they were AWESOME!!!!
I watch whenever I can. Like an amusement park, it never gets old! 🤘👏
How great was Styx. Life was so good in the 80’s.
This is EPIC. I forgot how good they were.
Once upon a time there was an era called "The Eighties", better known as "The 80's". While I don't disagree with your comment, it should be pointed out that the performance of Mr. Roboto on this tour was to pre-recorded music.
@Vegan Higler Yes true. Watch the Caught in the Act video. No one is playing on Mr. Roboto.
This song came out in the 70s.
Well said
I was around for Styx in the 70’s. Much better time.
what a fucking band!😍
He had a great piano teacher. He bounces off the keys, he plays in, and he plays with expression. Playing piano is all about the writers. ❤. Best instrument!
Despite the whole song being uplifting, the way dennis says "we had dreams" instantly makes me melancholic
When I was 17 this was my favorite song...now in my mid 50s, it's still highly rated....
54.. We had the best of times to grow up..nothing like the 80s now or ever again pal
Simply one of the greatest songs, ever. Sung by one of the greatest singers, ever. ❤
The Grand Illusion and Pieces of Eight are two of the best albums ever made......
1983 i was 20 and still love it at 58 today
INCREDIBLE classic rock band!!!
Loved that they made that girls night that got on stage with em !!! She never forgot it !!!
Yes, they were very fair and nice to her!
What golden pipes Dennis has! Makes me melt listening to his vocals.
Can’t believe Styx & Dennis parted ways because without Dennis, Styx is incomplete. Dennis & Tommy are the stars.
I was 23 and heard this for the first time and still hear it now and brings me back to those beautiful years, God bless them all .
The drummer is fantastic
For me, John Panozzo was the best Drummer all over the world…
Years ago all the words got sang by the singers.
There is something magical about Dennis DeYoung and Tommy Shaw singing together.
While I have the utmost respect for Lawrence’s talent, I would give my left foot if Dennis and Tommy could put aside their differences, and play together just one more time. What a way to emerge from this shitty pandemic that would be.
agreed, one more for the gipper and get the attention of the rock and hall of fame voters
Dennis was more than a rocker he had a showtune side. The rest of the members never connected with that side. But there was a place for it in the Paradise Theatre.
The lawsuit hurt him
@@oppai9611 A lawsuit about what?
That woman who hopped on stage did what no one else could do. She made Tommy and Dennis swing arm in arm together and act happy. Who would've thought those two HATED each other meanwhile?
RavenGames101 Beautiful as that was, it was probably part of the show since no security people removed her, she was gently let back into the audience, and she knew the right time to let go of Tommy so he could play his lead part.
HeRacesTheSun It could have been yeah, but you'll notice that right before Tommy's solo, Dennis point to her and calls over a security guard.
RavenGames101 It was beautiful that she did that. So honest..just moved by the music.....
Styx, REO Speedwagon, Journey, Boston, Foreigner, etc. If I could travel back to the 80's, I'd STAY there!
Saw Styx twice in the early 70’s at Arkansas Tech in Russellville. They were incredible. To me the 70s were the best.
@@billkaldem5099 Absolutely, the 70's was a great decade as well.
Different time back then, when a fan can jump on stage and huge Dennis Deyoung.
Timeless… Such amazing talent!
Dennis Deyoung and Tommy Shaw have incredible voices.
1983..Lakeland Civic Center..god what a memory!
Dennis
Has
A GREAT Set of PIPES
♥️🌟♥️🌟♥️🌟♥️🌟
🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹
For my money, probably the best song they ever wrote and the way they performed it here was epic.
This is the only version I can listen to now. "We had dreams!" Love this song.
Dennis DeYoung was STYX. Although they are all awesome
Loved when they pulled the lady from the audience in an embrace
😊
Thank you God for giving us STYX!
What an amazing era to be a young person.
This song just made me cry!😭
Magnifique ❤❤❤
WHY AM I CRYING?! WAS I ACCIDENTALLY LISTENING TO COME SAIL AWAY BY STYX AGAIN?!
That voice is PURE. AWESOME!!!
omg,,thanks for all..all.. from leipzig germany 😘
Dennis showing how HE arranged the music
Styx needs to rise above their issues and reunite......it would be awesome!!!
I can see Dennis and Tommy being interested in reuniting, but James Young, I think, still has legitimate hatred towards Dennis, and I don’t think he wants to reunite with him anytime soon.
i love this version so much! ❤️ it’s so sweet to watch tommy, dennis and a fan all dance together 😂
That got my thumbs up. All kinds of excellent.
No matter what life brings you... in the Worst of TImes.. see STYX for your inspiration to carry on or KICK some ass.. which ever applies best. Peace All !
I enjoyed Styx's hits back in the day, yet I knew very little about them. I really appreciate them now.
I saw them on tour for this album Kilroy was Here at the town center in NYC and then again at the Meadowlands arena. Styx is one of my favorite bands of all times. I wish Dennis was still with the group. RIP John, and to the rest of the guys keep on rocking
This is one great song! Definitely in my Top 10
i thought the chick jumping up on stage (and they way they handled the situation) was great too! this was truly an excellent performance of this song.
This man is now 72 and can sing these songs almost as well as he did back in this video. Absolute Chad and inspiration for any singer.
Unbelievable great
Tran sends the generations ...80's....90's....2000's....2010's...doesn't matter...the talent in this band crosses all boundaries.
This is pure joy! I was looking at a different version, but it seemed to be the radio version overlaid onto a video. This is obviously not the radio version, but they still sound spectacular. Man alive, I miss musicians with TALENT!
Chuck and John never get enough time on camera.
Bookmarking this, really nice version and awesome stage performance!

tonkashouse That's because they're not probably aware how good the band was with him. There is no credible replacement for Dennis.
orses4corses absolutely. I would pay hard earned cash just to see and hear Dennis singing and playing the piano. He is Styx.

Holy shit. This song is up there with the best of Rush. So progressive, melodic and technically brilliant!
I wonder how many times Dennis sang this song? He is the ultimate performer and great voice!

Agree.hes a blessing
Would love to see Dennis get back with Styx for a few shows.
To me, this is Styx's anthem, just as we will rock you is to Queen. Both kick butt.
Vallerie Nikirk I
Incorrect, would the Bohemian Rhapsody for this song of Styx.
GREAT BAND ONE OF THE "BEST " GROUPS" AROUND.
Set an open course for *The Vergency!* 🎸🤟🎶🥁🎤🎹👍

Dennis is absolutely the greatest
Tempi andati, musiche irripetibili. Anni indimenticabili. La voce di DDY una delle più incredibili mai esistite
It's still an interesting song after 44 years.
One of the greatest songs in Rock History.

It was the meaning of life.
Decipher it, learn it...live it.
I love this! Have finely got to see them in concert in these last few years.
Awesome!
Glad I grew up in the 80's - when rock was rock and you could count on everyone but Led Zeppelin to make an appearance - Thanks Styxfankc15.
I’m sailing away...in 2020
Still watching in 2021! Epic!
Anybody else watching in 2024???
