Are you kidding? He became the Freaking Doctor Himself. Many Series, Specials, and even an Special Comic with his last 2 incarnations. That was Big stuff.
Nah, if you say something like that then fans are gonna expect something big continuity-wise. The fact that he became the Doctor is completely separate - despite how awesome it is. Id've loved for some links to be made between Frobisher, Caecilius AND the Doctor. THAT would've sent whovians mad, but Moffet passed it up.
Charlie Wolff Not links with Caecilius? Someone hasn't watch the episode about the doctor discovering the reason why choosing said mans face for his regeneration. As a promise, to never forget Donna's Words.
Yeah of course there were links with 12 and Caecilius but I was referring to all three - imagine if they linked both characters with Frobisher?!?! I know RTD said Frobisher ended up being a relative of Caecilius but that doesnt link him with the Doctor. Think about it - the Doctor (according to Jack and Ianto) would've stood up to the 456 but Frobisher complied with what they wanted eh? Also, I have seen that episode actually lol. It was the best moment of Who since Tennant left ahaha
V-Rex Just because they live a different life to what you perceive as "normal", does not mean they are less worthy of living. By your ridiculous logic, I could say that children from 1st world countries should be the ones to die because they've already experienced a good life. If we really couldn't fight the aliens then a fair response would be to take 10% of children from all countries from all walks of life. It does the least amount of damage to any one nation/culture/ way of living, spreads the pain across the board and isn't insane.
oabuseer Just to point out, the aliens don't want the kids just so they can kill them. Earth children's brains have a cemical that "gives them pleasure". They want to use the kids as drugs to get "a hit" that makes them feel good. Yeah, they're literally paedophilic junkies, and that was their only motivation. This story is all kinds of messed up.
@@oabuseer Just no. That is not a fair response, it would lead to anarchy and violent protest, governments would collapse along with modern society, not to mention the sufferimg of those children I'd rather go down fighting
Gwen Cooper: There's one thing I always meant to ask Jack. Back in the old days. I wanted to know about that Doctor of his. The man who appears out of nowhere and saves the world. Except sometimes he doesn't. All those times in history when there was no sign of him, I wanted to know why not. But I don't need to ask any more. I know the answer now. Sometimes the Doctor must look at this planet and turn away in shame. 😔
Shit what if the doctor was there tho? No one asks but I think it’d be so interesting. Actually no the doctor would come up with something stupid like filling up the tank with helium 😂
This is who Jack really is. He'll float with the wind. Those who have seen him in Doctor Who have only seen him taking the side most likely to come out on top. He abandoned the rest of them with little provocation. Don't understand how some see this as so out of character because Jack was never conceived as a heroic figure.
No he had to to save the planet. It's not like Doctor Who where the Doctor has loads of gadgets and gets lucky every time. Children of Earth is darker and a more real drama. Jack is the hero, it's just that in real life sacrifices have to be made sometimes. Yes, it's sickening, but Jack is a hero above all, despite the dark nature.

I'm really looking forward to Peter Capaldi as the Doctor. I mean, he's a great actor and a fan! According to MOFFAT - RT Davies had a storyline to explain why he was in Pompei & here in Torchwood. Moffat asked if he could still use this storyline to also explain why he's also the 12th Doctor and this will be played out of Series 8.
Agreed! He is a great actor and a fan of the show. I am also interested to see how this plays out with all the apparent duplicates about. Should be good to say the least since Davies had a plot penned out for such a scenario. It's just Moffat I am unsure about..... O.o
After seeing Flatline I can just imagine after the 456 declaring that they will take the children, Frobisher suddenly switching character giving the "I tried to understand but you are monsters" speech and that his role is the man that stops the monsters revealing he is the Doctor and blasts the 456 away with the sonic. Yeah...that would have killed this series xD
Lets be fair here, if the Doctor was here and the 456 knew even the tiniest fraction of him, if they are smart and value their existence, they would flee from earth so quickly.
The ONLY aliens in all of the Whoniverse, that actually frightened me. And then to find out that they want the children as drugs basically, made it even more disturbing. Im kind of glad that The Doctor wasn't involved w/ the 456 at all, because that definietly helped increase the "fear" factor of them/it. Id love to see the producers try to top the 456...not gonna happen for a while tho lol
Right all those complaining that Peter Capaldi was in Fires of Pompeii and Torchwood, Get over it, If there is a story line great if not it's not the end of the world. Also Peter Capaldi didn't shoot his wife and children the character he was playing did jeez it is a sci-fi production, make believe, After the director shouted cut the woman and children got up and went about their normal everyday business. This is why do-gooders say that television corrupts minds, people can't differentiate between make believe and reality. Enjoy the programme for what it is.
I agree with you that it's not a big deal but it goes without saying that the actors dont actually die. You cant get mad at people who like to dive into the lore, even if the characters hes played are completely different
While I initially didn't agree that The 13th Doctor also played someone different in Torchwood, it's normal to assume that different people looking the same exist in different parts of the world. It's happened before
It takes a lot to actually creep me out and terrify me, even within the horror genre. The 456 are the only Whoniverse monsters that I find genuinely unsettling.
You know, the Colin Baker became the Sixth Doctor as well after he had already appeared as Commander Maxil in "Arc of Infinity" opposite Peter Davison as #5. There have been lots of actors who had multiple roles on the show or media associated to it. Even including, yes, David Tennant. Who appeared as multiple characters on the Big Finish Audios (Daft Jamie in Medicinal Purposes, Feldwebel Kurtz in Colditz, and a Roboman over the course of the third Dalek Empire series).
I've been binge watching Torchwood and thought it was pretty dark, specially the 2nd season, but Children of Earth made me change my mind. I don't think tv has ever got creepier than this. It was very painful too - Jack has made many mistakes, but how much did he have to endure in his life? Killing Stephen in front of his daughter was horrible and sickening, but better dead that way, rather then live your whole life attached to a terrifying creature that uses you as a drug. I think the most disturbing thing was seeing the child with the 456. And I would have probably shot my children as well, rather than being forced to give them to those monsters, condemning them to a lifetime of hell.
Doctor "Dalek, Cybermen, etc attacks the universe," I'm coming to save the day! But when Torchwood has these problems. Doctor: You guys are on your own for this one!
Watching this and The Thick of It shows just how good an actor Capaldi is. Similar part, but very different characters and ways of acting. I can't wait for the 12th Doctor! ^_^

Im looking forward to see Peter as Dr Who. I wonder if he can play a character that is so different from the ones he had yet. Especially the compassion doctor who has with the ones that suffer or are in peril. Or will the doctor change and become darker and more like " i do what i have to do " without much remorse.
When everybody wanted to find out the twelfth doctor, he was there all along trolling everybody thinking that he hadn't had much of a big part to these shows.
I am really curious to what the reason why there are two versions of capaldi character that Davis had set up and told that Moffat could now use. The name of the doctor would actually have been a really good explanation but problem is that 11 did the jump into his own timestream, not 12.
DALEK CAAN they couldn’t get a hold of him. In one of the opening credits to the second part of this episode it showed Gwen saying that they couldn’t contact the doctor and that she believed that doctor is staying away because he looks at humanity as disgusting for the cruel acts they’re about to commit (genocide against children)
People who had different roles in spin-offs before or after going on telly DW (2): - Lisa Bowerman. Karra in "Survival". Official voice of Bernice Summerfield. - Richard E. Grant. Dr. Walter Simeon/Vessel of the Great Intelligence. Alt!Ten in "The Curse of Fatal Death", Alt!Nine in "Scream of the Shalka". - David Warner. Prof. Grisenko in "Cold War". Alt!Three in "Sympathy for the Devil", "Masters of War"
That person you see everywhere on youtube Frobisher kills himself and his family. Even the Twelfth Doctor wouldn't kill innocent children, surely? But I think Caecilius and Frobisher are somewhat linked to Twelve's face.
I'd like to see Jack return with the words of "you! Frobisher!" (or words to that effect) - and at the same time The Doctor remembers Caecillius. He then says goodbye to his companion and lives a life as Caecillius (leading into the Fires of Pompeii) before living another one as Frobisher, before killing the three people that he loved. He then realises that he has to die to keep history correct, so regenerates by shooting himself to keep history on the right path.

Jack's "As a gift" line at the end is so chilling.
A perfect opportunity (missed) for the 456 to have said "we want 10% of the Children of Earth"...gah on you writers!
Moffat said the Peter Capaldi's roles in Doctor Who and Torchwood will not go unnoticed. I can't wait to see what he does with that.
Not much unfortunately. I was expecting something a little bigger.
Thing is, if this were real life, I can't help but think those 10% would be stolen from third world countries.
Still better than being rigged up to giant birds as drugs for their entire lives, but yeah, that would probably happen.
Why is that worse than from the 1st world?
oabuseer Just to point out, the aliens don't want the kids just so they can kill them.
That is not a fair response, it would lead to anarchy and violent protest, governments would collapse along with modern society, not to mention the sufferimg of those children
I'd rather go down fighting
Gwen Cooper: There's one thing I always meant to ask Jack. Back in the old days. I wanted to know about that Doctor of his. The man who appears out of nowhere and saves the world. Except sometimes he doesn't. All those times in history when there was no sign of him, I wanted to know why not. But I don't need to ask any more. I know the answer now. Sometimes the Doctor must look at this planet and turn away in shame. 😔
Bruh, the doctor was right there, he was just being a troll
Shit what if the doctor was there tho? No one asks but I think it’d be so interesting. Actually no the doctor would come up with something stupid like filling up the tank with helium 😂
The fact The 456 exists in the same universe as the man in th eblue box makes me realise how dark the whoniverse is
This was the best series of the entire show. Loved every second of it. Kept me glued to the screen for all episodes that season.
Capaldi was brilliant in Children of Earth. Definitely best season of Torchwood.
I still think about this today. It was so terrifying and still is.
This is why I knew Capaldi would make an amazing Doctor.
unedited footage of the Queen of England demanding more children to eat.
More like Prince Andrew
This story was absolutely amazing. I loved it.
456: "You have no significance."
Frobisher: "Actually, I'm THE DOCTOR!"
456: *GTFO*
Frobish-Doctor: "EVERYBODY LIVES!"
+katie9918 Still, the doctor blow up his own planet to save the univers. We just never saw it.
+Mike Fortin He saved it in a Moment of Time and Space and we DID see that...
Yeah, after thinking about it 400 years he change his mind. But he did burn his own people the first time... the proof is that when he change it, it create a paradox that erased the war doctor mind and the tenth doctor mind. He did burn his own people...
@@michaelfortin4930 nah mate. Ten and war don't remember any of the events that happened in the anniversary special for the same reason the eleventh (or the curator) don't remember it either.
When multiple incarnations of the doctor meet, it throws their timelines out of sync, meaning they don't keep their memories.
Otherwise anyone who isn't the youngest version would be to preoccupied by trying to exactly recreate the past and probably fail in their wordings and inflections with sentences.
It's much safer for for a mental fail safe in time lords to make them forget.
The doctor NEVER destroyed galifrey. Kinda sad they took that event away from the story.
I have gotten used to saying "Damn it Peter!" Everytime Capaldi appears in something related to DW.
Add World War Z to your list, since he plays a doctor for the world health organization - the Dr. (from) WHO
Wait what, that was peter capaldi?.. jesus christ i didn't even notice.
that means his a great actor!
No, he was no one back then so everyone just skip the character.
I assume you're joking? Peter Capaldi has been one of our greatest actors since Local Hero! The Thick of It for a start!
Sherlockowiec You mean Academy Award winner Peter Capaldi? Yeah, a nobody... 😒
@@sherlockowiec1693 I don't know about him being a nobody (I think probably not) , but this series was the first time I ever saw him, and I remember I was so captivated by him that I looked up anything else he'd appeared in and watched it. He's brilliant.
The noise that the 456 is making was also in the first episode of Doctor Who with Christopher Eccleston.
I love how Capaldi had his share of minor roles in the DW world before his tenure as The Doctor!!
oneeyedpete are u happy now?
dinoaur ! Seemed a bit of a simple explanation. But love him as the a Doctor!
Yeah but at least that weird thing America did wouldn't have happened... I'm still trying to figure that out
That voice still creeps me out 😬 and when they go in the tank and see the “child” 🙈🙊
Am I the only one that loves the fact that Peter capaldi (?) plays the twelfth doctor and the guy in this
he was also in rome during Tennant's run I think.
He also plays in Season 4 of Doctor Who "Fires Of Pompeii" with The Tenth Doctor and fellow Scotsmen David Tennant
Possibly one of the greatest things to come from the doctor who universe, I really wonder how this would’ve played out if the doctor was there
Would've been over in a few minutes.
@@joebees21yea probably
They’d end up igniting the gas in the tank or something
Lucky for the 456 he was dealing with the Master Race I believe at this point, judging by when he sees Jack at the bar before going to regenerate.
The question is, would this still have happened if the Doctor hadn't gotten Harriet Jones sacked?
Probably as there's no doubt in my mind the Master would've have removed Harriet himself to get to power before this time.
@@Prince__Teclis And probably would have killed Harriet at the earliest opportunity.
best Torchwood series?
wow this really made me want to start watching torchwood
Lets be fair here, if the Doctor was here and the 456 knew even the tiniest fraction of him, if they are smart and value their existence, they would flee from earth so quickly.
The ONLY aliens in all of the Whoniverse, that actually frightened me. And then to find out that they want the children as drugs basically, made it even more disturbing. Im kind of glad that The Doctor wasn't involved w/ the 456 at all, because that definietly helped increase the "fear" factor of them/it. Id love to see the producers try to top the 456...not gonna happen for a while tho lol
This was the best season of any tv show I've seen. So much tension and pressure in just a few short episodes.
Now I wanna watch that show.
It's happened before
Cryio Z Whenever I see an actor who played a timelord, like the doctor or the master, I just pretend they were messing around with fob watches again.
***** I doubt it. Capaldi's character in Torchwood has a fuckin dark ending. The two shows are completely different beasts
***** Well, that's exciting
It takes a lot to actually creep me out and terrify me, even within the horror genre. The 456 are the only Whoniverse monsters that I find genuinely unsettling.
Can we convince you to take maybe 90%?
Lol
two years later:
Considering the current generation of minecraft and CoD addicts, please take the 100%.
NicoM Pictures® and fortnite take all the boys girls aren't as cancerous.
They should take you guys instead.
@@MANJYOMETHUNDER111 Why would they take those guys? The 456 have no need for adults.
This is why I don't like Jack, I know it's a mistake he made that he regrets, but it's so sick when you consider what happened to those children.
You know that used to be my favourite number range, until now.
Now imagine what would have happened if Jack met Peter Capaldi's version of Doctor!!
Like how they keep the 456 ambiguous they could be a civilisation, a drug cartel or even a junkie from a truly advanced race.
Wish torchwood came back like this
Welcome number 12, your redemption is at hand! Show them how great you can be!
In 1975 he gave another 12 kids as a gift, this time to Jimmy Savile.
***** That's what I said, but the BBC didn't listen.
+andiroidYT I'm laughing so hard right now! 😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂
They reuse Peter Capaldi so many times. Twice in Doctor Who and Once in this show. They must like him. :) :\
I'm sure there's more people who have been used a lot
Like Benedict Cumberbatcha mum has been in like 11 episodes
Mind Blown! It's the 12th doctor undercover!!
This is such a great show. So dark though. There is no good solution. It would bring out the worst in everyone.
cant beleive that peter is the doctor now and is also in torchwood OMG
Amazing
I'm not a big fan of Russell T Davis, but this is by far the best thing hes ever written
That's still one of the most horrifying things I've ever seen.
Please bring back torchwood
Luke Wilkinson it is back. On audio at least
I'd forgotten Capaldi was in Torchwood.
This series has grown in quality.
Imagine a light hearted Doctor like the 3rd Doctor battling the 456
Can't wait to see what hes got in store for Doctor who
So Peter Capaldi played someone in Torchwood called FROBISHER, that's awesome.
(If you don't know who Frobisher is, look him up)
The 456 are my favourite Doctor who franchise villian
Really makes you think how the doctor would have dealt with them if he had been there
Watching this and The Thick of It shows just how good an actor Capaldi is. Similar part, but very different characters and ways of acting. I can't wait for the 12th Doctor! ^_^
Stories that scare the hell out of Doctor Who fans under age 12: Blink, Silence in the Library, The Time of Angels, Vampires of Venice, Day of the Moon, Night Terrors, The Angels Take Manhattan.
Stories that scare the hell out of Doctor Who fans over age 17: The Age of Steel, Countrycide, Adrift, Midnight, Turn Left, Children of Earth, The Waters of Mars.
Im looking forward to see Peter as Dr Who. I wonder if he can play a character that is so different from the ones he had yet. Especially the compassion doctor who has with the ones that suffer or are in peril. Or will the doctor change and become darker and more like " i do what i have to do " without much remorse.
Yes. Which is good.
The doctor only became Pious around the fourth doctor. Genesis of the Daleks.
Hrm? Yes, I agree with that.
David McConville Nah he just suffered from midlife crisis :D
Fantastic!! the best of Doctor who spin off!! Torchwod lo mejor que he visto!! Capaldi magnifico!
When everybody wanted to find out the twelfth doctor, he was there all along trolling everybody thinking that he hadn't had much of a big part to these shows.
" We want ten percent. "
You'll take 7.5% an pay gratuity until our hundred year contract is up.
I am really curious to what the reason why there are two versions of capaldi character that Davis had set up and told that Moffat could now use. The name of the doctor would actually have been a really good explanation but problem is that 11 did the jump into his own timestream, not 12.
Loved this épisode 😍😍
"Where did i get this face" i found it again you got this one too, and the man from pompei and Malcom Tucker (who if he isnt DW canon ill be pissed)
The doctor just wanted to steal torchwoods thunder. Jack didn’t even know if was him 😂😂
What the hell jack?! Havent seen tourchwood this gives me a whole different perspective on him dammmm
You really gotta watch it. The last series they did with showtime was fun too. But I really liked this one too
No ones mentioned the doctor
DALEK CAAN they couldn’t get a hold of him. In one of the opening credits to the second part of this episode it showed Gwen saying that they couldn’t contact the doctor and that she believed that doctor is staying away because he looks at humanity as disgusting for the cruel acts they’re about to commit (genocide against children)
Enoch001 where did you guys stream Torchwood?
@@firmanchristiansianturi4794 I still have it downloaded from back in the day
I can understand them clearly. 😃😃
People who had different roles in spin-offs before or after going on telly DW (2):
- Lisa Bowerman.
This must have been The Doctor’s mid-life crisis era...
What if those two capaldi appearances were the twelth doctor?
That person you see everywhere on youtube Frobisher kills himself and his family. Even the Twelfth Doctor wouldn't kill innocent children, surely? But I think Caecilius and Frobisher are somewhat linked to Twelve's face.
+thefartydoctor Frobisher killed his family to stop his kids from being handed over to the 456.
***** I know that. I'm pretty sure we all do. :P
+Rhys Benjamin That would be perfect. But it'd never happen, it's too dark for Doctor Who, and a bit too bogged down in continuity of a spinoff show.
ah love that welsh accent
The old guy at 1:42 was on Horatio Hornblower.
