catterflies Elton John is the King of butt holes. It always amazes me how these gay men make all these rock songs that straight men pay for about sexy women and their memories of them. These type of men singing them care nothing about that ; just make cash.

Elton quit playing it years ago and you’d probably only hear the studio version on 70s hit satellite stations now. It’s one of Elton’s biggest hits, but the lyrics are just too iffy today, though it was never meant to be demeaning to anyone. It was about Jamaican prostitute in NYC. Knowing how Bernie Taupin wrote, it was probably based at least loosely on real people.
@@haroldelrod8515 I remember when this song dropped back in 1976 it was right before I met my future husband...this song was a big hit in NYC that's for sure❤
Kenny Passarelli on bass. He and Roger Pope took over on bass and drums respectively after Dee Murray and Nigel Olsson were let go. Calab Quaye on the other guitar. Not sure who the other keyboardist or the backing vocalists are

I think "Teacher I Need You" and "Island Girl" are the catchiest Elton John songs from the 1970s. Even though it got terrible reviews I've always liked Elton John's "Rock Of The Westies" album. The person who reviewed it for Rolling Stone magazine was merciless. He said something like "Where's the real album? This sounds like a bunch of friends went in a studio, played around for 3 or 4 hours and then said "Hey! Let's release this as an album!" I'll admit the first song and side two are a bit weak but there's a lot of good stuff on the album.
+ldchappell Just got to say, songs from "Rock of the Westies" including "Island Girl" (which went straight to #1 on Billboard's rankings that year 1975) are loved by millions and millions of fans worldwide, and the album "Rock of the Westies" sold over 1 million copies in the USA, alone, relatively shortly after it was released. Kind of makes the person who reviewed the album for Rolling Stone Magazine look like an idiot.
Elton should have called it the tour Louder Than A Jet Engine because his sound engineer once took a decibel reading at one of his shows and was 118db.

Bernie’s problematic lyrics make this a no no for live shows. I totally get that and agree. But this was one of Elton’s best songs. Too bad it couldn’t have been reworded.
