Mazda. I wouldn't be caught dead in a Mini anything
My brother had 2 minis and one was eurospec, I thought they were really cool then I found out they aren't really for people over 6 foot and a little over weight but I love how they are, gorgeous cars
I own a gen2 mazdaspeed 3 with a intake and catless downpipe and all 3 engine mount . I drove stock f56 jcw(manual) few times .
I love both cars.
speed3 feel more raw more powerful, jcw feel very special very quick and the jcw exhaust sounds amzing with the pop .
for me jcw > speed3 > cooper s
I'm biased, but MINI 100%. I have a tune, muffler delete, and intake. Coilovers on the way!
As far as reliability, the new Minis are solid. They ARE expensive IF something goes wrong, because BMW
The Mazdaspeed3 is one of the greatest hot hatches of all time
As a mazdaspeed 3 owner myself I'm so glad this vid was made 😄
Nothing like watching videos about ur car to validate your purchase haha
First of all...mazdaspeed gang. Zoom zoom squad. Spooly 6/3. That is all. I own a speed6 so no bias here.
Same here. Mazdaspeed6 owner. Love my speed.
I have both Ms6 and Ms3
@@thebigd7177 miss my 6 just got a 3 yesterday ;)
Mazdaspeed3 easy buy, don't even need to watch the review. I will now that I've cast my vote.
-Mini as a fun personal car or secundary
-Mazda as a trusty quick daily
I'm more of a Mazda
Mazda in my experience is also rawer and more exciting stock for stock
I’ve driven quite a few cars, however not many have the great driving experience like the Mini. Awesome cars.
I totally agree. They’re go karts!
100% agree just bought an 03 mini coop s and the thing is just and unbelievable experience
You drove a few cars have you driven the speed3?
have you driven a miata ?
@@entertainingcenter4826 speed3 doesnt feel gokart
MY CAR IS NOT CLAPPED MAX!!!!!! RACE ME IN YOUR COROLLA PUNK! 🥵😭💔
Max is about to get that Gapplebees 😂
🤣
Mazda obvious choice for me. But my dad would choose the Mini right away cuz he likes Minis hahah
I love mine
Your father is a cheeky fellow. Love the minis personally!
@@lightning7582 ye they're cool
Gen juan mazdaspeed 3 ❤️
Having a stancey Mazda 3 (3rd gen) i love all the love Mazda’s have gotten on opposite lanes ❤️
The JCW is HEAVENLY! Really wish I had a JCW... still love my S though! Everyone hates on a Mini Cooper until they go for a ride in one.
Oh yes give me more mini content
MINI Cooper Gang wya 👋🏻
Answer: I'm picking my Speed3 up tomorrow
You won’t regret it
I’ve had my mini for about 2 years and 50k miles now and hasn’t had any issues whatsoever. The main issue with minis breaking down so much is a lot of people don’t do the maintenance like they should
Maintenance is higher for these cars vs the speed. Plus waiting on parts is a pain in the ass.
Gonna get a MS3 in a few months. So excited 😤🔥
Just got mine a few months back with the tech package, get the ms3 you won't regret it💯💯💯
Got mine almost 4 years ago still enjoy it, lowered on evo 8 enkies it's a solid daily
You'll love it. Just maintain it as one would any car.
I have a gen 1 cosmic blue Mazdaspeed3 gt it brings joy to my heart when a 2018 wrx pulls up to get gapped
I’ve owned one for about 2 years, 2011 mazdaspeed 3 makes about 315 to the front 2 tires, pretty quick and super fun to drive
I drove both cars and I would always choose Mazdaspeed 3 because mo powaaa baby :D
I love the rarity that my Speed3 holds. At meets I've had BRZ, and genesis coupe owners take interest in it. It really does deliver sports car level power to the wheels, while still being something you can use as a Cotsco grocery getter. The aftermarket is still active for the Speed3, with retailer options like COBB, Corksport, and JBR.
My only complaint about my speed3 was it was too quiet stock. Chop off the resonator and/or muffler, then slap on some 3 inch tips and the car properly comes alive.
Same thing with the ford focus st stock
Wayyyyyyyy too quiet.
Id say the mazda because we have way too many minis here and ive never seen a mazdaspeed 3.
Non Existant Are you from germany? 😂😂
They’re definitely uncommon
Minis aren’t even close to common where I’m from😂😂 that’s why I bought one
Mazdaspeed 3 for the win 👌🏼
Spot on with your assessment of the Mini. I definitely have a love/hate relationship with mine. The air ride I put on makes it a little easier to forget the hate part.
#mazdasquad were you at?
Yuh yuh
Right here
🖖
👌
The mini cult is very strong, I'm on a forum with guys who have their minis on water meth kits, making 300 hp, even rumors of 600hp minis
There's definitely a 600+ hp first generation mini out there. But it's crazy worked. Stroked from 1.6 to 1.8L, swapped from supercharged to turbocharged, completely custom head and cam, and I think ethanol fueled with meth injection. It was built as a 1/2 mile drag car.
Amos Whitney a meth injection kit is in my future as well 💪
UnlinealHand are you talking about the guy in the UK with the black R53?
@@ProjectMini no I'm talking about Bomber in Cali
UnlinealHand nice, im in California too 💪
I'm a Mazda Boy. I see Mazda I click. Speed3 everyday.
Dedicated manual, with a legendary Mazda power plant with a turbo slapped in there for good fun.
Yes.
You really feel the kick when you put it in sport mode.. (2010 Cooper s)
After buying my first speed 3 gen 1.... it made me believe in fwd again. This is coming from a genesis coupe, mustang ecoboost and Audi S5 owner. The power these things make, the grip in the turns the reliability is oh maaaaah Gooood, currently sitting at 350whp and 176k on the clock stock everything. Except turbo and hp fuel pump
A well.setup fwd car is still so immensely underrated
With people who are close minded thinking fwd cars can't be good or fun
I loved my 2008 Mazdaspeed3! owned it 7 years and now wish I still had one
Minis are easier to find than the MS3 (either gen), sold my bone stock 09 Mini cooper S (R56) daily driver in November with 98k miles and was looking for a MS3 but couldn't find a low mileage one so I got a '16 focus ST instead, for every 10 ST's I see, one MS3 will pop up.
Reliability wise the Mini was pretty bad in 4 years: timing kit, clutch, Flywheel, valve cover (pcv), turbo oil lines, struts, water pump, injectors, coil packs, fuel pump, catalytic converter, brake caliper all failed, had to do valve carbon removal(gdi), paint was weak, every little trim piece cost twice as much as other cars I've owned, coolant/trans fluid is BMW specific and more expensive and i had to buy $400 tools that are only used on Minis and now have no use for so all together about $4200 in parts and tools not including labor and I didn't even put any mods on it cause it was always broken in some way and didn't want to spend the money in case needed it to fix it
Depreciation is terrible on Minis too
2007/2013 R56 Mini Cooper S where known for having shite engines they where Peugeot engines that had an awful timing chain, however the R56 2013/2014 had the uprated n18 engine which was a lot more reliable.
The F56 is a complete different ball game from the R56 complete different engine etc etc. I’ve had mine for 14months now and haven’t had one problem with it, awesome cars.
@@gsmini1749 im actually looking to buy a mini ..a 2017 jcw caught my attention has 36k KMs on the clock ..do you think it might be a good choice?
@@ayhamaljuma7627 I like minis but im not too educated on them, but as far as i know if its manual, not the 2nd gen 2007 to 2011 it should be a great car if your not bothered by the maintenence and random problems. Still should have better reliability than my BMW though. Ive heard the newer ones are really good and with 36kms on it its pretty new i think it would be a great car.
human Jcws are absolute monsters and fun as hell to drive,I'd definitely get it
@@jonaskastrickas1218 Gotcha, thanks!!
I own practically the same spec mini, just some audio options came with mine and I haven’t gotten to wheels just yet. The car is just so much fun to drive and it makes me happy everyday. Also, thank you guys for helping me decide on the kw v2 coilovers. Even with the virus stuff slowing things down you guys kept me updated on ship dates and recommended other options in case I didn’t want to wait. Extra special shoutout to Jeff P.
I had an 07 speed3 I just loved the way the torque came on. Turbo spooled at around 3k and a wall of torque would hit. Car was violent in its powerband. I loved how you had to pay attention all the time because of torque steer. Thing was a monster
I've had my Gen 1 speed3 for about 2 years and I love it! Been taking it autocrossing and lightly modifying it with motor mounts, intake etc. Super fun drive!
Which mounts did you get and hows the ride? I bought damond a while back but ended up not putting them on. Everyone I talk to has a different story on how dailyable it is.
Mike Stanis I just put a Damond RMM in my Gen 1, definitely big improvement with throttle response and torque steer but HOLY MOLY the vibration can get bad until it’s broken in. After the bumpy break-in period, totally worth it. Plus it’s an easy DIY install
Mazdaspeed that’s not even a real question lol 😂
Yeah if you’re boring🙄
@@Justhangonman ngl but the cooper is way more boring to drive, it might be nice to look at but the speed is a blast to drive
Jimbo_jones7777 speed is way more fun i got loud turbo noises and great handling 🙃
Mini Cooper s if it’s a older gen R53 body style. They look better and a more fun to drive from what I hear
Being the the owner of a 2015 cooper S with a few small changes it's my obvious choice but I also appreciate the performance aswell as the community that the Mazda has infact I've been tempted a few times in the past to get a msp 3 but here in the UK there really hard to come by especially good ones
Got one here and it looked like one of the best available. However after taking to a specialist I’m not 3k lighter in the wallet but the cars incredible.
They need saving really. Its a shame
Cooper S with that full dinan kit. What a blast to drive
If you want your car to also do double duty as a daily driver for the family or support any other activities the MazdaSpeed wins hands down. For me it's an awesome Dad Wagon - room for kids, groceries, gear for sports and music, moving stuff. Throw some kayaks or boards on the roof, the gear in the back, and have room for some peeps to come along. When all that stuff is out of the car, go clip some apexes on your favorite off-ramps and do some pulls and giggle about it. Next day, take the kids to school, buy some groceries, get some home repair crap, take the dogs to the vet, go to work. No pumped in engine sounds, a real limited slip, a bit raw. Rev match? Heel and toe it baby. Gas, tires, oil, brake pads is all it's ever needed so far...
Alex: Should you get the mini over the Mazda?......
Me: NO BUY the Volvo!
I got a Mazdaspeed3 full bolt ons I love it every time I get in it I smile
Anywhere else in the us: about
Alex in Wisconsin: aboat
I owned and loved them both and its honestly like choosing who's your favourite child!
2013 mazdaspeed owner here. Speed3’s are so underrated! I first saw the 2nd gen around 2014 and I’ve always wanted one until a few months ago. What I’ve done so far I’ve installed raceland ultimo coilovers, Cobb front mount intercooler, Cobb short ram intake, Cobb HPFP, Cobb accessport, Ultimate racing exhaust and corksport downpipe. With 17x8 & 17x9 work ewing. People always mistaken it for a regular Mazda 3 hatch because I have taken off the speed3 logo until they get gap. Honestly, it’s a fun car to drive & it’s super stealthy specially since I don’t have a hood scoop, which I replaced it with hood vents. So all in all, it’s a sleeper car if you don’t know much about Mazdaspeed3’s .
I bought myself a 07 mazdaspeed 3 and i love the way the car is. First manual i own and its been a blast to just drive around.
I love Speed 3s but man. My Speed 6...nothing can beat that thing in my eyes.
I’ve had a 2015 Cooper S for 4 years now. 60K miles, ZERO issues. I came from a 2009 Cooper S that was constantly broken, so I bought the 2015 with a 100K mile warranty and literally have never needed it.
Current Speed3 owner. Long time Mini fan. I love how the Speed is just raw and wants to break your wrists. But then the Mini is a go kart (that the infotainment promotes) with a popcorn machine strapped to the back. A JCW will be in my driveway soon enough!
I had a 2018 Mini Cooper s and absolutely loved it. I had a major problem straight from the factory which really sucked. Another weird thing that isn’t always mentioned, the body panels have some sort of oil or lubricant in between all of the panels and would build up in the corners and would damage the paint. It was a super quirky and questionable built, but I absolutely love it and would recommend it if you know what you’re buying.
R56 owner here....don't recommend second gen mini unless your wallet is deep and you got cash to burn.
What about 1st gen?
@@80s_Boombox_Collector 1st gen is even worse
As a dog owner I relate heavily to the comparison and I also do not care I'd still buy a Mini
Speed3 all the way!!!! Zoom-Zoomm
The Mini if you want a more connected feel....but its reliability sucks, as does the cost of parts & labor.
Generally speaking, Minis built 2011 or later are far more reliable than those built before 2011. In fact the one they have for this video is a 3rd gen which is probably the most bulletproof drivetrain BMW has ever given the Mini brand. The N14 Prince engine used from 2007-2010 on the Mini platform is where a lot of the reliability complaints came from and Mini still hasn't totally shaken that reputation yet, despite the engine not being used for 10 years now.
@@UnlinealHand 2011? Do you mean 2014, when the 3rd gen was introduced?
@@80s_Boombox_Collector The third gens are by far the most reliable cars the brand has ever made. However in 2011 they shifted from the N14 to the N18 in the second gen Cooper S models, which is also a fairly reliable engine.
@@UnlinealHand OK thanks for the info
"there is no understeer"
me: *impossible*
Bruno Claudino i think he meant to say torque steer
@@ProjectMini from your side of view, it kinda makes sense
2:39 wow that's a pretty clean Dakota in the background. All of the ones near me are rusted out and I live in the south lol
Love my 06 mini, 130000 on a stock clutch and still going strong. absolute ripping go kart
I run the F56 Cooper S with a set of RE71R, put the biggest smile on my face daily.
I took many of both in on trade and can tell you selling a Mazda usually meant a happy customer. Sell a Mini (which I personally like) meant you would be joined at the hip with the customer because they are high maintenance. They are a BMW that require BMW parts and service....OFTEN. The costs plus higher insurance make these cars only for those that can easily afford the upkeep. If you have to ask how much...you can't afford it.
Mazdaspeeeeeed, it's literally *smiles* per gallon. Now if only I could afford it
I used to think the same thing, but trust me, if you're serious about owning one, you'll find the money, and be one super happy camper. I love my speed 3. People who sell their speed3's hate to see it go, but circumstances make them have to give it away.
@@alwaysonroad-365 I will never sell my gen2 speed3. Had mine for over 7 years now. Mine will stay with me forever.
Big turbo speed 3 around 380whp. Perfect daily 👌🏼
Mine BT make 430 on meth injection 😉
Had a 2nd gen MS3, stock powertrain.
Drove it up to 240xxx kms without any issue besides regular wear items, and some broken springs. Really good car for the price. Had a similar mini traded in at my work. mini is a better driving experience . this review is bang on
I went with a newer Clubman. 17. No issues so far. For the price, it's great performance. Turbo'd, manual and all wheel. Can't beat it.
My previous car was a Mazda 3 ( not the Speed one) and my current car is the Mini Cooper S. Had the Mazda 3 for around 8 years. The only thing that broken was the infortaiment system. The mini have been with me for about 3-4 years. It s a used car with around 15-20k km on it. Changed the front lower arms as soon as I got it. Had to change the air-con compressor assembly around a year ago, the mechanic did mentioned that newer car compressor is known for not being as reliable as the older one don't know if it's true. The vertical aim control sensor is gone for few years. Didn't care to replace it. And that's about it. Both of the car I rav them to red line every day and corner hard. No mods been done on the cars. Oops almost forgot. I've replaced the engine mount and some bushing on the mini
Already have a 2010 Speed 3! Absolute sick car, and not really many around that I've seen, which is pretty nice, to sort of be one of a kind in an area
Hmm interesting review, what camera lens combo were u guys using at the end when summarizing and walkimg between the two cars?-looked crazy wide but kinda cool. Also what was that awful noise like the whole time u were driving the mini was there some rubbing? Also mazdaspeed3s exhaust can sound amazing too lol.
Minis F56 are way more reliable than the previous generations. Great handing, good power, nice interior, a little bit rough for daily driving. I don't see myself without one after getting one.
Loved my Mazda 3. It was my first intro the mod world.
Aye these instrumentals go hard
gen juan speed 3 is moves for sure, love that little beast!!
I have an 06 Mini Cooper S. Only mods on it are an exhaust, a 15% pulley and a CAI. It's the funnest thing I've ever driven, easily.
I have a friend with a modded WRX with a little over 300 hp, and he likes driving the Mini more lol. They're too fun
My 2009 mini cooper has been good to me. Keep up the maintenance on them and just treat it nice. You can still get on it. I have to replace my lower radiator hose since I lowered it all the way and it scraped on the road 😐
Yep the mini copper community is amazing my group I run with are planning on go to classic car show and make it a mini copper and classic car car show
I love my classic mini. I just need to get it running again...
I was at a car meet and these 2 British guys were there, Father and son. The father had a Classic mini that was nice and clean, the Son had a 2005 Cooper S with a Turbo. They were both Red and Stick.
Cooper S might be the most underrated sports car right now.
Speed3 All day everyday reliability by itself makes the deal for me!
Go for the R53 mini. Owned one of them, sold if for an r56, regretted heavily, and now I own an r53 again. Amazing cars, and if taken care of are very reliable contrary to popular belief. Far more reliable than the r56, and can be almost as fast modded. Plus supercharger is way cooler than the turbo
A mini.Owned mine since 16.And they are mad Awesome
"Zoom zoom!.. zoom zoom! It says zoom zoom" 😂1:30
I'm on my 3rd Mini now
I currently have a 2014 Mini S with 117,800 miles on it. All stock... so far
Take care of your cars and reliability wont be an issue.
Lmao love the dog pooping on your carpet metaphor
I just wanted to compliment the choice of music.
I had 2 mc s a 2009 hatch and a 2013 2-seat coupe s (loved that car...it was very reliable and was mildly modded with Bilstein coilovers, AEM cai, performance exhaust and best yet satin black lightweight Enkei pf04's)...unfortunately the coupe s got in a wreck😥...anyway MCS all the way.
Thanks for the well done video. However, as I try to decide between a 2016 Mazda 3 hatch or a 2016 Mini Clubman S....is there a clear winner? Looking for a daily driver where frequency of repair and reliability trump every thing else...is the Gen. 3 Mini still a piece of crap as far as longevity...or have they really gotten better? Having to use premium gas in the Mini already is a minus in my comparison. Thanks for any input.
Little small question on the side... is it safe to have a pops'n'bangs map with the stock cat?
Couldn't the ceramic, like, melt away?
If you've driven both the Cooper feels much slower compared. I was very close to buying a mini but got a speed3 instead. They both handle pretty well especially on coilovers but there's def a power difference
They corner so good!!!
Oh that intro. The song: 10/10. The opposite lanes graphics: 10/10
2014 and up mini coopers are way more reliable than before tbh. I own a 2015 f56 with 50k miles. Runs perfect
50k miles can't be the benchmark for reliability in 2020.
Or do some research because your statement is inaccurate about anything prior to 2015 being inaccurate.
2003-2006 mini Cooper s and jcw cars had the tritec engine and it's super stout and reliable.
Stay away from the 2008-2012 cars are garbage with the terrible n14
The 2013-2014 jcw cars are very reliable and the LCI models of these years are getting to go up in value.
I drive an MS3 and it's funny I was looking for a mini before I even really knew what the Mazda was then like I found one that was an hour away and I said let's find out. Drives the MS3 and like the first time I hit like second and 3rd gear when the turbo kicks in I was hooked. You can not even describe the smile you will get round corners and flying around in that thing! And as far as what he said about the parts I would have to disagree as alot of the parts you may need or want are easy to find or are on a focus st somewhere lol
Does he want to sell the speed to me? lol I've been looking for a second gen black one for ages. can not find them.
I've drove a 2003 Mini Cooper S for a couple weeks and the manual transmission felt like butter.
You gotta do a Cobalt SS vs SRT4 video. I have a turbo cobalt ss on a e85 tune for you to review. I only live like an hour from Appleton.
I would love to own a mini one day. If I could afford it I would get JCW in a 2 door or the Clubman.❤️
I need those wheels for my MS3 😫 let me come down there after my big turbo and built motor to pick up wheels directly from you.
I own a speed 3 and love it, very fun and easy to drive car. My uncle has a dinan tuned mini s, and let me tell you that thing pulls like a freight train. I would have a hard time picking between the two
Mini's totally rev match
I love the pops from the exhaust
my family has always owned classic mini's (all have been mk. 3) and currently my dad is looking at swapping a b26 v-tec (or a b20 with b16 top end) into it which will be very interesting
oh ye and my mum own a 2005 cooper S (the supercharger one not turbo) and its real fun
Where I Iive, the Gen2 Mazda3 MPS is the abnornal one being only 100 units were imported and sold. It manage to stay under the radar untill early 2020. We don't have the Gen1 Speed3, only handfull of Speed6. The Mini Cooper S is very ultra mega super duper normal.
Just got my mazdaspeed3 2013 with tech package 65k miles . I got a gfb bov an intake and catback exhaust
Yes more mazdaspeed vids
I never knew there was such a thing as quote good plastics
Best quote of 2020 "Even the steering wheel is round"
i love my Mazdaspeed 3 ! puts a smile on my face every mile per gallon
