Haha, it’s funny you say this, back in my high school days (I’m 24 but I feel like it was forever ago) someone at my school had one, but it was parked in the STUDENT parking. This was in 2014 so the 2013 speeds just came out the year or so before and I never really heard about those, my school didn’t have much car enthusiasts. So I though it was a Mazda3 with a cooler hood, wheels and spoiler (it was a friend of a friend’s car) I had a 2014 Civic Si and wanted to race him since obviously I didn’t know it had a turbo and WAY more power. I started hearing his turbo spool up and I IMMEDIATELY left off the gas. Looked completely stock on the outside besides lowering springs. I think he just sold it a couple years ago but I literally copped my 2011 Speed3 right after I graduated and had it up until February this year
@@jxnguyen I'm getting ready to sell mine too, if I don't get it up and running again when I return home. It's a great car honestly. I would recommend picking one up if you're truly interested. Just know what you're getting into if you're planning on modding one.

As a Mazdaspeed3 owner, I would describe it's feel as "raw". You have a great sense of the suspension, engine, wheels... You feel connected to the car and road. It's definitely full of smiles per gallon.
Love my 07 Speed3, bought it modified and the clearcoat is disappearing from the spoiler, but she's quick and looks agressive with her overfenders and 9 inch wide tires. Pulls like a beast, most fun car I've owned.
@@gorywoodward4610 The guy I bought it from used a guy who goes by Purple Drank(?) For the tune its running but recommended going to Freaktune if I ever wanted to change or clean up the tune cause the guy is generally nicer and more helpful. Runs 20lbs boost, and I've done most of the maintenance since I've owned it or have taken to a dealership or local shops that my friends have vouched for, for things I don't have tools/time for
I still can't believe people still underestimate how good this platform is . All it needs is good suspension , bolt ons, and a tune and this thing can fly like a rocket ship 🚀. Yet a very fun car to daily and has plenty of cargo which is extremely helpful . I definitely disagree with the fact you guys gave it a %50 rating . But I love the fact that you guys still mentioned how good this car is on your channel .
I bought a 2012 pearl white speed 3 with 50k miles about a month back.. bone stock except coil overs, and motor/tranny mounts… definitely a rare gem in my opinion
When turning traction control off you need to hold it for 5+ seconds to turn SWAS off. I’ve owned my Gen 2 for 4+ years now and I’ve had no major issues, still loving it.
I have mine for 5+ years now, and it still puts a smile on my face every time i go for a back road drive. The suspension, steering feel, torque steer and mid-range torque are nicely blended together to create a one of a kind driving experience. And you put that smiley face on that, it makes the car feel alive and ready to attack.
Great review, I love how you talk about the car living and breathing, the freedom it gives. These really are the things I look for in reviews, none of those practical information about infotainment or plastics quality, nothing about potential problems or prices of repairs. I can honestly appreciate the statements that you made about this car, the heavily subjective opinion about how the car feels, no comparisons - like the car has been made in a vacuum. It helps a lot when you say that you have no idea about what BSM and AFS is, it really gives a perspective about what I need in a car. Also, the more notable and useful pieces of info is about stuby DSC icon... man that really opens my eyes to whether I would or would not buy this car. "Good hatch space", "really nice seats" - great statements that mean absolutely everything to a 90 yo grandma that comes to a used car dealer. You, of course, cannot ommit the problem of it being front wheel drive, man oh man what would I do if you haven't mentioned that. And the scores... don't even get me started on the scores. Absolutely spot on, I'm gonna use those numbers when I negotiate the price... which should be... um...
I love my 2012 Speed 3. It's the best, most fun daily I've owned yet. It's just unnecessarily hilarious to drive when you drive it hard. I'm full bolt-ons with a 93 tune, so it's above stock on power but not too high. I kept up with my dad's 07 Z06 Corvette that he just picked up, bone stock, on a back roads run we did a while back. Only time he had me was on the straights cuz 200 more horse. Lol. And not throwing shade, just being honest, the understeer is only really that bad when you don't know how to drive. Similar to snap oversteer on MR2s. If you know how to drive and understand the car, you won't have those issues.
@@Guiddstuff Nothing special. Just full bolt ons. 3" JBR intake, Corksport downpipe and cp-e cat back. Corksport bov and ETS top mount intercooler. I also have Godspeed Mono SS coilovers and stock sized wheels with Michelin Pilot All Season Sport 4s I think they're called. Going BNR S3 turbo once the stock k04 gives out
@@jxnguyen Well, I only have about 20k miles on it now, so I can't fully speak on that just yet. Bought at 75k and I'm at 94k right now. But it's been a daily and when I get it to the back roads, I drive it like I'm on the track. And it was a bone stock daily with the previous owner. So it's been good so far. Only time will tell. Especially since it's a direct injection turbo car. Things will start to need maintenance. Lol
With everything automotive turning green as we speak. ... IMO it still has a place on the market. MAZDA should do a HP hybrid luxury version with a 6 sp manual,. it would definately sell. I own a 2010, stock w/K&N short ram intake. Puts a smile on my face every time I drive it! Good examples definately have the collectability factor and (as you said) a great bang for the buck!
Just purchased an unmodified 2013 2weeks ago as a fun economical A to B car and I love it, just fast enough to be fun. Definitely makes the daily commute suck a lot less.
I have a 2013 Mazdaspeed3 and just finished rebuilding the motor even tho I had to rebuild the whole motor I still stick with my Mazda just because is fun to drive it. I love it and I hope the bring back the Mazdaspeed line. (Also I like the fact that is a 9 year old car, that means less people have it clean one I mean)
Love the Mazdaspeed content! I’ve owned a 2010 and I currently own a 2012. I am such a fan of these cars. My 2012 isn’t the prettiest, the clear coat is gone on the roof and the hood, but it’s a blast to drive and the smiles per gallon are real. If you’re looking into buying one, do your due diligence with understanding what has been done to it, what maintenance has been done, if VVT has been serviced, and if it’s modified, if the fuel pump internals have been replaced with an aftermarket unit. Take care of the Mazdaspeed, understand their quirks and potential issues, and it’ll treat you well.
AFS being Adaptive front lighting system, are when the headlights actually turn depending on which way your car is heading, really cool feature... mine stopped working 2 weeks ago :(
@@FitmentIndustries ceika performance coilovers, corksport cold air intake, hpfp, and Cobb ap. Planning on a new motor, fmic, corksport exhaust and doing some body work
At least people sometimes talk about the speed3, I feel like I never get to see reviews on a speed6😭 I have a regular first gen 6s hatch but always loved the speed6. They’re awd too and still no one talks about them?? It’s crazy
@@_michael_q completely agree. The speed 6 doesn't get much love and the aftermarket isn't very large but it is a very fun car. I've always wanted one since it was announced.
"Zoom zoom, bitch". Epic! Lol. I've owned my Gen 2 since they released. Still in absolute love with her. I have a '12 bmw 328i and that's a fun car as well but nothing is like these speed3s. It has tons of character. They are quick and handle quite well. Slap some BC coilivers, sways and a proper alignment and she hugs. They are absolutely 💯 a fun time.
I love my MS3. It's the same year and color as Rachel's, and it's a blast to drive. I've had it a little over two years and am finally starting to be able to do some mods to it. Wheels from you guys will be in the near future. Right after all my engine mounts and coilovers. Then the real fun will begin.
The only issue I ever had with mine after 5years was the dash where the info screen is. I lived in the south and he summer heat baked the dash to where the glue came undone and it lifts up noticeably. I think there’s a recall for it and the hatch struts but fk it other than that best car I ever owned
@@androidpg1535 I may be wrong it’s been 2 years since I sold it when I moved. I’m pretty sure I got something in the mail about the dash ONCE but that’s it
@@reconexpert yep that exact spot. I drove that car constantly all over the east coast just changed the oil and basics with maintenance. That’s all that ever happened was the dash. And the rear tires seamed to wear faster for some reason…. Did they all come with Bose surround sound from factory or was that just mine 😂
My 1st Mazda experience was a premodified 2010 Mazda 3 Sport GT hatch. It taught me definitely buy them unmodified but once the errors are fixed you have a fun everyday car. that experience ended sadly with someone making a late lefthand turn in front of me. the time with it was enough however to make me want to own another one but quite naturally not get the same thing but move on to the next tier being the Speed3. I currently daily drive 2013 MazdaSpeed3 same color same interior. sadly financing but I couldn't resist it since it's exactly as Alex said (Alex to Alex) they are very hard to find in you own area unmodified. It was clean no mods and looked decently fresh and taken care of. I still have the alerts on Cargurus and still no fortune of seeing another just like it with same conditions of being sold directly by a Mazda dealership, unmodified, decent looking condition. if they are out there and I know they can be it is typically not within the scope of my area at all. That being said I found a rare thing and had to go for it. if my day isn't going well there's at least one material thing that is sure to always put a smile on my face no matter the circumstance and will never cease surprising those with even faster cars that are ready to immediately jump in front of you until all of sudden you accelerate even with base HP which is 263. also for early 2000teens, its pretty sexy far away/upclose etc. Conclusion: if I were at Mazda I'd give them the biggest reality check ever. They cannot survive off the Miata alone heading into the future or with their SUVs, and straight turbo models. They need to bring back their in house performance division: SPEED. Otherwise they can't really say ZOOM ZOOM anymore.
As a gen2 speed3 owner, I’m very pleased watching these vids!! When you guys watched the GR Corolla reveal, you guys can definitely tell that the GR Corolla has a gen2 speed3 design(:
The best thing i had put on mine was the Cobb APv3. The flat-foot-shift that came with the AP eliminated turbo lag between gears. Stiffer engine mounts were really nice too. (AP stage 1 map also made the turbo louder, along with the stiffer mount, allowing the whining noise to be heard)
Love my 2013 ms3 so much. Had it for nearly 2 years now and I've really enjoyed slowly modding it from bone stock and daily driving it. It's hard to complain about a quick hatchback, it's just so practical, I've gone camping with it, loaded up my hockey gear and my buddy's, moved a few hours away for school with it loaded to the ceiling and it's never let me down. Most of all it's such a fun car, I especially love how it corners with tires, rear swaybar, and coils, I'm gonna take it to my first autocross this summer and I can't wait.
Good luck with that! I’m sure it’s a beast. Have you added some wheels and tires?! Add it up to the gallery 🙌🏽 -Edgar www.fitmentindustries.com/add-wheel-offset
I owned a Celestial Blue 2010 Speed3 for 8 years and definitely did build it up. One thing I noticed is that many people overlooked it, and had no idea of its potential. I did part ways with it, and picked up a 2016 Ecoboost Mustang. The engines are practically cousins with many parts surprisingly interchangeable. I get more attention in the Mustang obviously due to the name notoriety, platform, and... well the color which is Competition Orange. These are two very different, yet similar in the same ways. Oddly enough, my Speed3 had a good 100whp more than how the Mustang currently has.
Just got myself one of these like 3 months ago as a daily. ONLY reason I copped a speed 3 is because is was completely stock. Came with 138k miles and clean carfax. It’s a 2010. Loving every minute of the car. Wanted it for a long time and glad I finally found a decent one I can enjoy. I would definitely recommend getting one if you find one that is either all stock or relatively stock. Fun cars.
Yes they need to bring it back, corksport makes some amazing after market parts for the cars. I'm currently at 415whp rn on pump gas with port injection. So much fun and love every little bit of my gen1. Nearly everything is done do it.
Miss mine... 2013 stage 2 with a sick tune... 340hp 320 lb torque. Now i have a 2018 CX-9 which actually reminds me of my speed in certain ways. Love Mazda. Zoom zoom!
Former 420whp speed3 owner n I can say it was such a fun car, everything abt it was raw in a way, my s4 now may be faster but isn’t as fun, miss that thing man 🙌
My 08 MS3 was my gateway turbo car 12 years ago. Which then lead to a 91 Turbo II RX7, 05 EVO9 a 97 STi, 89 GTR and 93 EVO1. Man I miss that first Gen Sunlight Sliver MS3.
First things first lol absolutely Mazda should bring back the Speed performance division. Why they think with their push to go up market that they no longer need it is beyond me. Almost every premium or luxury brand still has their own performance division. BSM = Blind Spot Monitoring AFS = Adaptive front lighting system (for your headlights that turn corners) You were close on the stock numbers too just got them flip flopped. HP was 263 and torque was 280 out of the box. My dad had a red 2012 for a while and then back in 2018 I came across a low mileage (under 40k), 99% stock 2011 for sale and traded my 2014 MX-5 for it. There are still a few clean low mileage examples left if you look hard enough, but you're gonna pay a lot more because of that. I've been enjoying it ever since. Took it on a road trip this past weekend with my doggo and last year made a trip up to Canada and back. The car is still a blast to drive and even 11 years later I can still manage 29-30 mpg on the highway. 32 every once in a while lol. All around a really fun car in a package that you're starting to see less and less of these days.
I've had my Gen 2 for about 2 years now. Got it at 32k miles and have been enjoying the platform with very minor bolt-ons like HPFP internals, downpipe, intake, and a tune to enhance my driving experience. These cars don't respond too well to big power without alot of supporting mods. If you're looking to make big power on a budget, this will not be the platform you want. But if you're looking for a fun, affordable hot hatch that's not a Focus ST or GTI then this will be a fun car. With that being said, currently contemplating on whether or not I should put the OEM parts back on and trade it in for the new GR Corolla lol
@@GrimReaper1675 I'm on the same boat. my mods above is the most I want to do power wise. Currently have it sitting on Kansei KNPs and Eibach Lowering Springs and the cobb passenger motor mount. Nothing crazy suspension wise so far
Absolutely one of the best cars hands down. I have one, no mods an the thing is amazing, especially having done nothing to it besides regular maintenance.
I came from the Focus ST platform, and I must say, I do like the Mazdaspeed3 better. It feels more alive, a little more wild if you want to say. Yeah, if you don’t do the VVT and the HPFP, you can kiss your engine goodbye, but the car is a blast. I’m big turbo, on E30 near or at 400 to the wheels. By far the most fun platform I’ve owned so far.
I have a Gen 1 Speed3 heat soak is fixed by installing a FMIC, mine has a bigger turbo and supporting mods, i love that its a sleeper car, everyone thinks i have a regular mazda 3 with and exhaust and lowered until i hit that sweet 23psi of boost and leave them wondering wtf just happened, i love doing this to scat paks specifically
I had one and loved it. Made 373whp on kozmic motorsports dyno. Never gave me a problem for 50k miles before I sold it besides leaking oil from being abused slightly. But that was to be expected with what was done to it.
Maybe old post. But unplug swas under steering column clam shell and hold on. Only technical way to turn off all assistance from ecm. Yes youll have dash lights. Just know then youll have your hands full but what a blast. 6 total speeds in the family. Theyre fickle lil hellions..enjoy all
I love my ‘13 speed, only issue I’ve had with mine was the flywheel went bad at 96k miles. Which it’s a wear item, replaced the clutch and flywheel and I’m back in business.
I bought a '10 new. BNR turbo, all supporting mods, Bilstein coilovers, SSR wheels, Freak tuned, all that. One thing I'll say is I drove the piss out of that car modded for 60k miles and it never once had so much as a hiccup. Honestly one of if not the most reliable car I've ever owned.
I am actually going to look at a 2013 mazdaspeed 3 today and probably picking it up. A friend had one and let me drive it a few times and it was a hoot. If I everything is good on it and I end up getting it, I have some unconventional modifications I am going to look into doing.
I bought a stock 2010 black for 6k with 204k miles. Changed the rotors and the same day busted my oil pan totalling it. After 6 months of paying off the car, I found the beast. 2011 killahbuilt block and all the bolt ons. It scares the shit out of my gf.😁
I had the MPS/speed6 when it was new and it was awesome. My wife almost bought the MPS/speed3 , but we decided not to have 2 moneypits (plus the fwd and 2.3MZR DISI , althou hilariously fun, couldn't imagine it as a daily) now I've got the GL 2019 Mazda Atenza 6 Wagon (Australia) with the 2.5T Skyactiv. It's no MPS/speed but, I ain't 10 years younger either lol. I may look at this smiley face gen 2 for a midlife crisis project thou....
I've had my genpu 2010 speed 3 for the last 12 years (bought it brand new in Feb of 2010) and I LOVE this car! I still get compliments to this day on it. Had a guy in a newer corvette even compliment me on it haha. Asked him if he wanted to trade 🤣🤣.
I own a 2011 Speed3 with fortune auto 500 coilovers, evo x enkei wheels, reso delete, corksport axle back exhaust, and getting it tinted soon in that same red color the most fun car I've owned
Been driving the 2012 Mazdaspeed3 for a decade now. Driving it till the wheels fall off, and when they do... I'll put new wheels on them and keep on moving. Love this car.
Almost bought a new 2013 Speed3 but ended up with a 14 ST. Can't go wrong eith either, bang for the buck daily drivers with power and use. Feel the ST is well balanced and the Speed3 is a old school turbo torque machine.
As a proud gen 1 Speed3 original turbo and motor 155k and a few bolts and still goes zoom zoom. I recently got pulled over doing 140 and didn't know that a CHP was chasing me for 15 miles lol. I used the professional assistance card and the officer wrote me a ticket and I kept my car.
In my opinion these are one of the best hot hatches ever made. It seems like they’re not talked about enough though when people are debating about what 4 cylinder tuner car is the best. Even with them being fwd I’d take a mazdaspeed 3 over a wrx because they respond to mods a lot better
My son has an 07 MS3 with HPFP internals, downpipe, intake, and a COBB tuner and it is a great car. We did have to do the VVT and the struts are trash in all M3s (BCR coilovers going in it) but it is a very hard car to beat for the dollar.
This episode is brought to you by "Please don't tell Rachel". Joke aside nice video. My brother used to have one and I had a blast every time he let me drive it to work while we fixed my eclipse.

I have mine for 5+ years now, and it still puts a smile on my face every time i go for a back road drive. The suspension, steering feel, torque steer and mid-range torque are nicely blended together to create a one of a kind driving experience. And you put that smiley face on that, it makes the car feel alive and ready to attack.
same everytime i see mazda, it makes me smile
I’ve always thought it was the best looking hot hatch ever.
The gen2 and aslong as its blue💪
Because it is :)
Yea I really never got the hype over gen 1s. Gen 2s look way sportier
What mods you running?
@@Guiddstuff Nothing special. Just full bolt ons. 3" JBR intake, Corksport downpipe and cp-e cat back. Corksport bov and ETS top mount intercooler. I also have Godspeed Mono SS coilovers and stock sized wheels with Michelin Pilot All Season Sport 4s I think they're called. Going BNR S3 turbo once the stock k04 gives out
How has reliability been for you? I was really looking at one before I picked up my 8th gen si sedan
@@sutton3199 Do you have the hpfp internals? they must be a must mention so people can understand the platform better
This guy definitely knows how to make his videos informative and funny it wasn't boring in any way like some other UA-camrs 👏
I get my Mazdaspeed 3 back from the shop, today. 🎉😎
Love the psychotic smile that the speed 3 has
just bought a 2010 speed3 and my dad loves it! he literally will only let me and him drive it.
Just purchased an unmodified 2013 2weeks ago as a fun economical A to B car and I love it, just fast enough to be fun. Definitely makes the daily commute suck a lot less.
Any big plans for it?! Congrats! -Edgar
I've done an intake and solid shifter bushings, and will be ordering and HPFP and Accesport in the next week or so
I have a 2013 Mazdaspeed3 and just finished rebuilding the motor even tho I had to rebuild the whole motor I still stick with my Mazda just because is fun to drive it.
I’ve had a Mazdaspeed for coming on 10 months now and, without fail, it puts a smile on my face every single day

Had a Speed6 for 10 years unfortunately sold it in 2018. Was really a fun car.
@@_michael_q completely agree. The speed 6 doesn't get much love and the aftermarket isn't very large but it is a very fun car. I've always wanted one since it was announced.
as a previous mazdaspeed owner, there is nothing that will put a smile on your face quite like a mazdaspeed3, they are just RAW, and crazy,

I bought my MPS 3 2010 two month ago and i love it. 🇸🇪
I love my MS3. It's the same year and color as Rachel's, and it's a blast to drive. I've had it a little over two years and am finally starting to be able to do some mods to it. Wheels from you guys will be in the near future. Right after all my engine mounts and coilovers. Then the real fun will begin.
I love mine, my girlfriend has a sti. Two very different cars, but when going in the oder one it makes it appreciate even more!
The only issue I ever had with mine after 5years was the dash where the info screen is. I lived in the south and he summer heat baked the dash to where the glue came undone and it lifts up noticeably. I think there’s a recall for it and the hatch struts but fk it other than that best car I ever owned
We got to deal with that buddy, not only you. Still waiting on the recall.
@@androidpg1535 I may be wrong it’s been 2 years since I sold it when I moved. I’m pretty sure I got something in the mail about the dash ONCE but that’s it
You guys too!?!? I’m seriously thinking of just replacing the entire dash. Mines lifting up right where the gps screen is located.
@@reconexpert Have you tried to glue it back?
I've heard it doesn't stick that well.
What are you running now for a car? Or do you still have it? -Edgar
Add it up to the gallery 🙌🏽 -Edgar

Fun cars.
I bought my 2013 Speed3 back in late 2018. Still bone Stock & with 66k miles. Love it!

I had a 2013 in that color too. It's a great car.
BSM = Blind Spot Monitoring
AFS = Adaptive front lighting system (for your headlights that turn corners)
You were close on the stock numbers too just got them flip flopped.
Definitely should revive the mazdaspeed line, as a modified mazda 323 sp20 owner the sports mazdas are some of the funnest platforms
32k lmao
I feel like focusing on suspension would be more fun for carving up mountains. Idk thats just me 🤷🏻♂️
@@anthonymcnatt3799 What's funny about 32k miles for a 10 year old car with clean carfax history?

Absolutely one of the best cars hands down. I have one, no mods an the thing is amazing, especially having done nothing to it besides regular maintenance.
I came from the Focus ST platform, and I must say, I do like the Mazdaspeed3 better. It feels more alive, a little more wild if you want to say. Yeah, if you don’t do the VVT and the HPFP, you can kiss your engine goodbye, but the car is a blast. I’m big turbo, on E30 near or at 400 to the wheels. By far the most fun platform I’ve owned so far.
I really like the Speed3, I would love to have one for me. I plan to get my high schooler a Mazda3 or Corolla/iM manual hatchback for his first car.

The stall, to the out of gear, to the peal off was priceless. Not to mention the blaming the clutch smell on tires. MS3 driving in a nutshell.
I am actually going to look at a 2013 mazdaspeed 3 today and probably picking it up. A friend had one and let me drive it a few times and it was a hoot. If I everything is good on it and I end up getting it, I have some unconventional modifications I am going to look into doing.
