I call you the plant whisperer! I love your style of plant care. You explain everything in detail that even a beginner understands. It all makes perfect sense! I'm ordering the plant poles that you use and getting the same fertilizer too. You are my #1 plant guru that I always go to for information and answers. On top of all these things, you are very entertaining! And the love and care you show your kitty melts my heart. I squeal every time you post a new video! Thank you so much for everything!
Love that you make it a point to just make one large moss pole for your plant. Don’t think about the small stage it may be at now, think about where you WANT it to be and give it what it needs to get there successfully and easily. You don’t want to have to annoy your plant every time it grows taller, all in all you AND your plant will appreciate it very much ❤ another great video!
Very inspiring. You have impressed and taught many people! I really loved the person in Lyon, France, who transformed the staircase into a living wall. I loved that it was getting a bit wild, jungly, you could hardly see the poles.. I coulld tell you were impressed with the person, whose collectioon and style was the closest to yours. He even had a comparable oxalis! Your reaction was so funny! But rest assured you will always be the best teacher and plant parent. Your sincere wish for people to succeed, and plants to be well cared for comes through in every comment you make. All plant people have their own charm, even the ones who aren't getting everything perfect. It's incredible how global and huge the plant-obsession has become.
Hehe yes I really enjoyed Greg's collection in france & the way he described them as artworks he paints his hallway with :) and yes, Jason's collection reminded me so much of my own :P Thank you so much :))
Hi Jan, Bev from Adelaide here. Thanks for including my plants at 6:37 😊 Yes, you’re right. I did repot the El Salvador when I extended the moss pole. The growth has slowed a bit but I assume it may be concentrating on root growth in the bigger pot. Great to see everyone’s plants. Love this idea.
Ugh Jan, I LOVE these longform videos. You're such an engaging creator. These longer videos are so much fun to put on in the background while I'm doing my own plant chores. Keep up the great work!!!
I love this video format Jan and your feedback. My favorite is the staircase full of of plants. I have no natural light on my staircase, if I did I would want to decorate it like that.
Thanks for including my pothos video. I agree completely. I've turned it around towards the window and the leaves have corrected. My future moss poles are much larger and sustain the moisture much better. Love your videos. Looking forward to continuing my learning and growing more large leaves ❤
I found you on UA-cam because I'm trying to learn how to arrange my lovely collection of mostly tropical plants into nice combinations. I'm so glad I did, because now I'm learning how to in a practical, hands on way. I'm fairly new to indoor plants since about December '23 when I had a sudden vision for a tropical indoor garden. I have always grown plants and flowers, vegetables outside. I'm so glad for the inspiration. Thanks. Your communication skills and the pleasant person you are really come through in your videos. I'm now up to about 100 with around 30 phaleonopsis orchids. Love this hobby and love seeing a truly talented person such as yourself so excited about it too.
"The plant whisperer", yes great name for you Jan. I'm here in Minnesota, the weather here can be -20f in the winter and 108f in the summer, and backwards to the weather you have. So, I'm collecting ideas and care instructions from you, then I'm going to find the 'right plant' and try doing what you do. One of these days I'll be brave enough to find a plant and start, but, being a senior on a fix income I don't want to kill an expensive plant practicing on it. I have tried growing a pothos on a pole. The leave are bigger and it seems happy so far.
It is not often you see Jan shocked but you sure did it! What a collection! Also hello fellow melbournian! 👋 May I add I'm up for adoption 🙊🤣 ergh I would love to pick your brain about plants verses Melbourne bipolar weather and if we could ever do a clipping trade🥰
I love it! There are so many people out there growing such amazing collections, each with their own special flavour of care and display. Nice to see a variety of people getting some spotlight on their beautiful plants.
Hi Jan, I love your channel and have learned so much from your videos. In response to Octavio from L.A., I switched from GT Foliage Focus because it is difficult to get and is really expensive in the US. I'm about a year into my plant journey. I started out using GT Foliage focus but switched to Superthirve Foliage Pro about 6 months ago and my plants are still thriving. There has been no decline in growth at all. Superthirve Foliage Pro is more cost-effective, and it gives me the same results as GT Foliage Focus.
The 3D castle pole would be great as just a topper for regular poles. As in, they just fit on the very top and act as a funnel to pour water into the pole, or to hold a bottle for pouring. That way the castle if functional and removable. Could be multiple sized diameters too.
Or it could go along the back of the pole, in a semicircle, covering the solid sheet backing of the pole. This way the roots wouldn't tangle into the building making propagation difficult, but the intricate building would make the back side of the pole interesting.
I live in Wichita, KS I loved seeing what others are doing. I have always loved gardening, but with the extreme heat and drought, I have had to garden on porch, patio and now indoors. What made me come indoors was a result of having to bring in some plants during the winter. I have added grow lights due to a very dark house. After watching your video I have decided to try a moss pole. I have a velvet heart philodenron and a friend recently gave me starts from her Pothos. Right now I am leaning towards getting starts off my Philodenron and using that for my moss pole plant. Thank you for the inspiration and sharing.
Fantastic video Jan, and all of those who contributed - thank you! The long form videos are always very engaging, and it helps to have a virtual 'chat' about whats going on with your/our plants when you don't necessarily have a plant buddy to ask questions or get advice from. You've really created a community of fellow plant lovers around the world and it's great to see everyone else's collections to get ideas, see what's working and so on. In the words of Xunami Muse.. Yes ma'am, more please!!
I absolutely love this video concept. I watch a lot of planty people on UA-cam and it’s so cool to see what other viewers are doing with their collections. You should make this a series.
Great idea to do this video. Lovely to see everyone’s plants. I grow cacti but I’m getting the aroid bug I think. Thank you so much and to the SPG community too 🌿
This was a great video. The plant parents and the way they grow their plants is a great thing to see. Thank you for sharing and for providing feedback. Can't wait for part 2. ❤
I learned so much from this, and I got inspired to add moss poles to some of my philodendron this weekend. I'm excited! Thanks, Jan, for doing this. You're such a cool plant and kitty parent ❤
I love everyone who put their plants out there! I like seeing everyone's plants and astetics! The first thing I learned from Jan was chunky avoid mix and then moss piles!
Loved it! ❤ Lot's of good ideas and great to see such impressive plants thriving in colder climates 🤩 I hope it's rewarding to be getting such positive input from your followers, and to know you're inspiring us all. Looking forward to part 2. 🤗
Your videos have certainly helped me with my plants and got me into aroids, moss poles and chunky mix. I have learned a lot from you and am very grateful. I also enjoy seeing Brad - he is so handsome and makes a great addition to your content 😺. Thank you.
This is so cool, isn't it just wonderful that all these people from around the globe have joined in and shared, your channel is number 1 Jan, you are a caring person and encouraging us your viewers your knowledge helps us be more successful.I must say the French stairway was absolutely beautiful ❤❤
Love this! Sad I missed out but I’ll make a submission anyways for a potential part 3. I think you’ll appreciate my plant collection origin story, a bit of a tearjerker and deep emotional connection for me but I’ll include all that for you to read. Thanks Jan!
Thanks so much for the tips!! I did already buy some better moss poles. And my plants have been sizing up so fast! One that I didn’t show was my Philodendren paraso verde and the leaves are MASSIVE on it!!
You got me into liquid fertiliser into my water last spring I had such growth my leaves where massive! This spring my plants are will be so loved. Thanks for the inspiration always darling.
Bonjour Jan! Thank you for including my moss poles at 44:00. That was really fun to watch my plants on your video and motivated me! Now I’m trying P. Luxurians and P. sp Colombia on moss pole. I hope they climb well like P. McDowell 🤞
Your all videos are in my heart, especially long ones! Thank you again! Since your last video about anthuriums, as you suggested last week occasionally I got small clarinervium. And seeds of anthurium gracile were for free, all of them are doing very well by the by!
Love this idea Jan! Thankyou and thanks to everyone who submitted entries.. loved watching and can’t wait for part 2 and other ideas coming soon. I’ll keep my eye in the community tab 👀
Jan, I follow your channel because I always learn something from watching and you have a lighthearted way of communicating that lifts my spirits. Mississippi - Alabama - Louisiana - Florida are all on the Gulf of Mexico (Gulf Coast) and in the USA is part of the Deep South. The State of Mississippi borders the Mississippi River. The climate in the Deep South is humid and hot with abundant rainfall most of the year. The further south in these states you are the more tropical the climate becomes. These states are USDA Zones 8 - 11 and get little snow. When the Deep South has freezing temperatures the roads can become sheets of black ice. These states experience hurricane season.
You deffinantly got me started into this hobby I stumbled across your Instagram a few years ago that's where it all started an now I have amazing plants that look amazing growing on moss poles huge leafs like yours 😊
This was so fun to see everyone's plant collections. I do hope you continue with this as part of a series. I hope to submit a video myself after my plants recover from this Winter's struggle to keep warm. ( Furnace died during unusual freezing weather 🙀) As well, this first peak at submissions gives me a better idea of video style. Short and concise seamed to work best, which i tend to blather on... Thanks for this totally inspiring content Jan!😻
Amazing collections from all over the world featured in this video. Very inspiring. Thanks for sharing them. Shout out to Paka (fellow Kiwi). I love how his printed poles look like a post-apocalyptic city, turned jungle.
Hiya Pearl, can you tell me Paka’s instagram name so I can see his moss poles please. I saw what Jan had shown but it was really quick to get a good look at them, even with rewinds. I did try his UA-cam name but nothing came up and I tried loads of searches on instagram but couldn’t find the right one. Hope you don’t mind me asking, I thought Jan would be too busy to ask. Best wishes to you 😊Phyl in UK. (Sorry about my UA-cam name, it was a joke a few years ago when my son put my voice to music on his iPhone 😂
I sooo enjoyed this video, all the plant parents submissions have really blown me away 👏👏👏 It must feel great Jan for inspiring & teaching all these people to produce this quality of work 🙏 Do you ever sleep at night? I don’t know how you manage to do all of this & work as well - Legend!!
SPG had to “feed the cat” after seeing Jason’s plants. SPG stops recording to go outside and scream into the vast universe. SPG returns with a refreshed outlook. I’m just teasing you, SPG. I watch religiously and am forever thankful for your teachings:)
omg please do a marble queen on a pole, I agree totally under rated! I'm actually about to do one myself because I think it will look really good, and I just got one with some good variegation on it.
Aww. I missed your tab!! I would've loved to share my collection. This is a great idea. I hope you do this again so I can submit my pics. My plant hobby totally leveled up after finding your channel. I would love for you to see some of your influence in my collection. I love seeing other people's collections. It's so much fun!! Great video!
It's a long weekend here in the US. I am going to switch to a chunky aroid mix with my plants (mostly syngoniums) this weekend. Wish me luck! I'm excited to get in on this the next time you do it.
Such a great idea for a video. I loved seeing everybody's plants. So cool. I'm just surprised no one mentioned mushrooms growing in their moss poles. I have these yellow mushrooms growing vertically in my moss pole and I'm just wondering if I'm the only one. Can't wait for part 2!
Mm I’ve never encountered that. There must have been some spores in the moss you bought. Might also indicate that there is insufficient airflow. In general though, fungi are natural & a big contributor to soil health … just not sure about them in your moss pole 😐
DANGIT!!!! I missed your deadline! I was looking forward to sending in my video to you, I had colored lighting picked out on my aquarium light, the right time of day to film, and all my favorite plants in their prime positions 😅 but vehicle failures and my general bad luck threw a monkey wrench in my plans a usual
42:30 I tried the cups before and had to go back to the bottles with holes in the caps because the open air above the cup allows the water to flow way too quickly through the holes; I wasn't able to rehydrate overly-dry sphagnum moss with this method and found it made more of a mess. With the bottles, because the air has to back-flow through the holes the water flows out of, it slows the rate considerably to a trickle that's much better for rehydrating moss.
Great point!! The cups might work well if you just want to walk around and water a little bit every day or so, so that the pole never even dries out :) Suppose I’ll stick to the bottles then :P
OMG! My heart stopped for a second when you pronounced Octavio, my name's Octavia LOL 😂 It's a pretty rare name and I know I haven't sent you any photo, because I've only put my plants on poles a couple of weeks ago. There was a sort of conflict in my brain for a second 😂😂😂
Loved this video and very excited for part 2! I thought that it was only open for people with big impressive plants to submit videos but next time you do something like this I'll definitely submit something too 🤩
So, plant wise, everything is bigger and better in Australia!!!! Just wow!!!! Just curious Jan, have you ever considered using large mirrors in the courtyard to redirect the light back into the the house? Just wondering if that might do anything for you.
Keep in mind Australia is a very large place with climates ranging from snowy mountains to deserts ;) when growing insite we’re all facing similar issues, australia or not ;) the mirrors would just be a hazard with the strong sun causing potential fires but light exposure should improve as the sun gets lower in autumn :)
@@sydneyplantguy, I get that. I live in Washington state and everyone thinks I live with constant rain and clouds. Lol, I live in the desert region of Washington, so not great for growing tropical plants. It does make life with plants interesting though;) I'm looking forward to part two!!
So cool to see everyone's collections and so exciting to see my monstera on your channel 🎉 aha thank you for doing this video, is really awesome (Cat from UK) 🤩🥳
Love how you have done this, what a great idea, I would love to give you a look at my shade house, but not sure how to go about it, I don't have intsagram or tictok, maybe when you are ready to do another one you could give us computer dumbies a video on how to send it to you 😆😊looking forward to part 2
Great Video! I just put together my very first legit moss pole yesterday. have a really wonky monstera that I'm trying to retrain. than you for all the knowledge you share.
I saw your channel and visited it from time to time. My subscibtion is, to be honest, because you are german, but also i really enjoy watching you and your personality
1:04:09 I can recommend TPS Nutrients for easily to acquire fertilizer in the US. They have their houseplant fertilizer (identical to their monstera fertilizer) that can take the place of a normal setup, or they have either nutrient solution ingredients, or TPS One for semi-hydro setups. I really appreciate that they come in opaque containers, as well, since I don't have a dark place to store them to prevent algae growth.
I look forward to every single video you make ! I loved this video and so happy you have too many submissions to fit into one . Now I have more great content to look forward to!
Hi Jan, I am watching this video in parts, just saw the huge plant cabinet at 34:30.. If you're looking for inspiration for something more like what you describe, have you seen the Ill Exotics shop in America? I believe they have closed down, but Summer Rayne Oakes went there more than once, they made something with sliding doors normally used in living rooms.. You can see it in her tour videos :)
I have enjoyed watching the whole video, from beginning to end, thanks for dedicating your time to provide interesting videos. Honestly the only plant I was growing to copy from you is the Oxalis triangularis,.I love how it's so lush and it gives never ending purple leaves but mine is not there yet.
I love your videos so much. I'm still experimenting and learning buuuut I have double high ceilings in my living room and I have long term goals to get some +2m moss poles in there at some point. Fingers crossed.
Love this vid Jan! I must have overlooked when you mentioned posting about submitting on community page. Hope to participate if you do in the future. Thanks for sharing!
This is great! I would love your feedback on my collection, if you do another of these I will send a vid 😀 We love your channel and always chuck it on the big screen! My go to point of reference for everything👍
That is so nice of you Vanessa :) thank you! Really appreciate it
Love that you make it a point to just make one large moss pole for your plant. Where did you get your plants from Bev?
Ugh Jan, I LOVE these longform videos. You're such an engaging creator. These longer videos are so much fun to put on in the background while I'm doing my own plant chores. Keep up the great work!!!
Happy planting :) thanks :)

It’s a stunner !!! Thanks for submitting :)
Your are stunning! Good job Jason! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Wow mate love the plants❤

Jason from Melbourne wins my vote! JUST WOW!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻💚💚

He did leave a comment :) Obviously it's not a competition but his plants are closest to my taste level :P

I love how Brad was just like "coming through!" Lol 😂
Don’t mind meee :D

These states are USDA Zones 8 - 11 and get little snow. When the Deep South has freezing temperatures the roads can become sheets of black ice. These states experience hurricane season.
You deffinantly got me started into this hobby I stumbled across your Instagram a few years ago that's where it all started an now I have amazing plants that look amazing growing on moss poles huge leafs like yours 😊
That’s so nice to hear :) thanks & happy growing :)
Thank you :) will definitely do more of these so keep an eye out on the community tab :)
Amazing collections from all over the world featured in this video. Very inspiring. Thanks for sharing them. Shout out to Paka (fellow Kiwi). I love how his printed poles look like a post-apocalyptic city, turned jungle.
Thanks :) haha yes it does !!
I do get my sleep in but yes, it’s a lot at times 🥹 so I appreciate your ongoing support :) thank you!!
SPG had to “feed the cat” after seeing Jason’s plants. SPG stops recording to go outside and scream into the vast universe. SPG returns with a refreshed outlook.
I’m just teasing you, SPG. I watch religiously and am forever thankful for your teachings:)
haha :D thanks :)
Wow, I love those plants all around the world😸 especially the ones in Montreal😻
Great video
Thanks :)
Hi Jan, love the videos and your feedback on each submission. Would love to be considered when you do this again. Fingers crossed for part 3
Thank you :) keep an eye on the community tab :)
I’m so jealous of that stair way! Omg, now I have a project that I need to do over winter lol
omg please do a marble queen on a pole, I agree totally under rated! I'm actually about to do one myself because I think it will look really good, and I just got one with some good variegation on it.
Happy growing :)
That's great to hear :) I'll certainly ask for submissions again soon for another video :)
"that's a two week GLOW UP!" LMFAO
Love this video your really inspire me can't wait for part 2 watching from Barbados. 🎉🎉❤❤
Thank you:)
Loved this! So good to see you connect with your audience :)
Thank you :))
so many beautiful plants!!
Loved that video! I agree. It's really interesting to see what other people are doing and growing 🙂 keep up the fab content ❤
Thank you:)
It's a long weekend here in the US. I am going to switch to a chunky aroid mix with my plants (mostly syngoniums) this weekend. Wish me luck! I'm excited to get in on this the next time you do it.
Happy growing :)
Loved it. Very intelligent young man and well spoken.
Thank you so much :)
Also, you really got into your stride after the first few minutes. You’re really good at this.
Hehe thank you :)
Love these constructive feedback from you sensei!
Yay :) thanks !
DANGIT!!!! I missed your deadline! I was looking forward to sending in my video to you, I had colored lighting picked out on my aquarium light, the right time of day to film, and all my favorite plants in their prime positions 😅 but vehicle failures and my general bad luck threw a monkey wrench in my plans a usual
There’ll be more Opportunities in the future :)
Thank you, I really loved this video, super inspiring and looking forward to part 2! ❤
Thank you:)
OMG love those series:D its nice to see whats happening in other house-growing grounds of your viewers :D
Thanks :)
I love this format! I enjoyed every minute of this video.
Thank you:)
OMG! My heart stopped for a second when you pronounced Octavio, my name's Octavia LOL 😂
It's a pretty rare name and I know I haven't sent you any photo, because I've only put my plants on poles a couple of weeks ago. There was a sort of conflict in my brain for a second 😂😂😂
Ooriya wow, your plants are gorgeous!
Loved this video and very excited for part 2! I thought that it was only open for people with big impressive plants to submit videos but next time you do something like this I'll definitely submit something too 🤩
Not at all :) all collections are welcome :) (apart from hoyas haha jk)
Thanks to everyone who shared! Would love a part 2, Jan 🌿
Thanks :)
Great perspective, thanks Jan!
Thanks :)
So cool to see everyone's collections and so exciting to see my monstera on your channel 🎉 aha thank you for doing this video, is really awesome (Cat from UK) 🤩🥳
Thanks for submitting your plant :) happy growing :)
Did anyone else pause the video and run around watering their poles? 😂 great video!
Love that!! :) priorities!
Love how you have done this, what a great idea, I would love to give you a look at my shade house, but not sure how to go about it, I don't have intsagram or tictok, maybe when you are ready to do another one you could give us computer dumbies a video on how to send it to you 😆😊looking forward to part 2
All submissions just came via email :) i’ll post instructions on my community tab :)
And thank you 😊
Great Video! I just put together my very first legit moss pole yesterday. have a really wonky monstera that I'm trying to retrain. than you for all the knowledge you share.
Thanks :) happy growing :)
I saw your channel and visited it from time to time. My subscibtion is, to be honest, because you are german, but also i really enjoy watching you and your personality
hehe thanks :)
Thanks for sharing :)
I look forward to every single video you make ! I loved this video and so happy you have too many submissions to fit into one . Now I have more great content to look forward to!
Hehe thank you:)!
Dang I missed it. Love this idea. I'll definitely keep an eye out for the next one.
Thanks :) they will be more :)
Love these videos! Keep them coming! From Ontario, Canada
Thanks :)
Damn that staircase is niiiiice! 😄
Isn’t it !!!
OMG, you cursed!!!🤣 WTF, Jason. I like Jason's collection too.
Haha I can have a filthy mouth :P
“What the fukk Jason”😂Hahaha
We like Jason :D
Hi Jan, I am watching this video in parts, just saw the huge plant cabinet at 34:30.. If you're looking for inspiration for something more like what you describe, have you seen the Ill Exotics shop in America? I believe they have closed down, but Summer Rayne Oakes went there more than once, they made something with sliding doors normally used in living rooms.. You can see it in her tour videos :)
Thank you :) i’ll check it out :)
I have enjoyed watching the whole video, from beginning to end, thanks for dedicating your time to provide interesting videos. Honestly the only plant I was growing to copy from you is the Oxalis triangularis,.I love how it's so lush and it gives never ending purple leaves but mine is not there yet.
One of my all time faves :) thank you!
Enjoy watching you and learned a lot. Can you share your soul mix that you used? I love your plants. Excellent care and program !
Thank you :) my potting mix video is linked in the description :)!
I love your videos so much. I'm still experimenting and learning buuuut I have double high ceilings in my living room and I have long term goals to get some +2m moss poles in there at some point. Fingers crossed.
Good news: the experimenting & learning will never end :) which makes this hobby so interesting :)
Love this vid Jan! I must have overlooked when you mentioned posting about submitting on community page. Hope to participate if you do in the future. Thanks for sharing!
There’ll definitely be more :)
This is great! I would love your feedback on my collection, if you do another of these I will send a vid 😀 We love your channel and always chuck it on the big screen! My go to point of reference for everything👍
Thank you:) keep an eye out on the community tab:)
@@sydneyplantguy ok great! Will do, thanks😀
