BBC Relaunch: The Chameleon Factor

- The BBC is rebooting in time for its 100th anniversary. Just. A new look all round, from the blocks to the idents. Two phases in, let's take a look, shall we? Shall we? We shall.

the globe probably won't come back, but here's an idea: before the news, have a variation that shows the Earth
I like the new BBC One look, it's almost slightly reminiscent of what the 2002-2006 idents were doing, only more jazzed up. I like what it's going for, although some work better than others, not to mention on the same day these new idents were launched, in some regions they accidentally went back to the Oneness for the 10 o'clock news with the Night Kayaker's! I like to think BBC Two's curve and the success of ITV Creates shamed the BBC into doing this. I hope more are added to the rotation.
I've tried not to be too quick to judge the BBC One idents but almost a month later I'm still in the same boat. The lack of a centre really bothers me. The picture postcard template was, and is, inevitable but I don't think panning on cosy everyday scenes while ambiently opening pockets into other times of the day was the way to go. I'm not sure what exactly I'd have preferred but doubled with the bland logo superimposition I get no stimulation from them at all - leaving me nearly as cold as Oneness. But agreed on the music - nice to have some of that back, and to have it be as amorphous and open-ended as the visuals themselves (which is a separate problem - the main channel's resistance to something even slightly assertive - but its a consistent marriage at least).
Brilliant!
Yet the balloon will forever be my favorite.
Is it wrong that when I first saw the new (or rather delayed) circle logos I immediately went to wondering when your video would be coming out about them? Thanks for the great work :)
Presumably the globe is too imperialistic, suggesting the BBC covering the entire world, so I guess I can understand why modern logo designers are shying away from it.
10:52 Well not anymore
I understand the "Three Blocks" idea, and I love it in concept! It's a great unifier, and I don't agree with the common internet complaint that they're difficult to tell apart. I just have two problems with it. One, Bitesize being purple instead of orange just feels wrong. The second is that I think that the attempt to turn the iPlayer logo into a replica of it's old logo, but made from three blocks makes it look awful.
At least they didn't bring the singing slugs back for BBC Three...
At least they have diiferent colours compared to the Google icons which by the way both are done by Wolff Olins.
I absolutely do watch BBC Four and will be very annoyed when/if they do take it off air. BBC Three is far more suited to an online presence given it's target audience.
From what Chris Cook (BBC News) did on Instagram the other day with a tease of the new BBC News logo, I think a rebrand may be sooner. Either that or the logo is just changing
Apparently they're going to start adopting the new blocks tomorrow, but there'll be a more fundamental change some time in 2023. Don't quote me though.
And Chris Cook also claims the new BBC News icon is in fact a representation of a webpage. I thought it looked like a camera!
At least I made out the other ones.
iPlayer is a play button
Sport is a running track
Weather is the sun’s rays
Sounds is a radio wave
And Bitesize is three books
@@briansergeant I figured it was some sort of abstract representation of the concept of information
This is a great relaunch for the BBC, I just hope GMA refreshes theirs soon after 20 years of Kapuso v1 era.
Not sure how the new BBC logo will be used in "Family" style idents like with last year.
I'm guessing a gold-embossed version on a velvet curtain backdrop. Same thing as the used for Philip, basically, with the new blocks.
@@applemask that's exactly what they did - the backdrop was purple
What are those idents @15:16?
Trailer stings from Summer 1990 on BBC1.
@@applemask thanks!
I think the only way we will see the globe return is if we end up in some dystopian world where the media is tightly controlled and the BBC is the one and only media entity in town, Pity really. I don't think the new BBC One idents are particularly bad, though I agree they really need to keep the effect going for the duration of the ident and urgh, I really shouldn't have watched the BBC Four ident whilst hungover :/
The BBC three logo hands thing..... welcome to the new nightmares for the children of 2020.... logo fear.. its real
I think they're cute and alright
