The ITV News presenters back in the 1990's were in a different world back then. The way they researched and presented the stories on air was second to none. The current era has not and never will match the standards that were set in the 1990's and early 2000's. The footage just looks so clean and crisp as well.
That visit wasn't the 90s, though. The news being covered during the late Queen and Duke of Edinburgh's visit was the war in Afghanistan/search for Osama bin Laden (post-September 11, 2001).
Watching this from India and remembering Queen Elizabeth and her smile and connection of humanity yes RIP Your Majesty The Queen 🙏👑🇮🇳🇬🇧 ,God Save The King 👑🤴
She actually said to Trevor McDonald "it's so exciting". The reaction many of us would have if visiting ITN. Such a sincere and genuine woman, really interested in the places we went around Britain, the people she met and what they did and why it was important. She knew how to dress for every occasion and she knew how to make everyone she spoke to feel important and valued. God rest Her Majesty the Queen.
I would have thought more interesting than exciting , to visit some news studio ? Hence , one can only assume that the late Queen was seeking to show polite enthusiasm and not a lack of intelligent conversation ?
@@alexandradane3672 Oh, a pedant. Well done to you. As a supporter of Her Majesty The Queen God Rest Her, I I do not seek to second-guess what she says. How would you know what she finds exciting? I would find it exciting; you don't. You pick at her words and imply she had a lack of intelligence, you must be a Republican.
Quite. So much so it is unimaginable that HMTQ would ever turn up at any major news organization today. It would be an insult to even suggest such a visit.
I have no doubt HMTQ chose well ahead of this engagement that she would appear in head-to-toe green screen green. I'm sure all wrote it off as a funny coincidence, entirely unaware that when it comes to on-point and painstaking (practically forensic) wardrobe choices, no one can match the Queen's mastery in the art of the subtle nod of the unexpected & haute coture perfection.
0:48 - The Queen enters Studio 4 at ITN - This was the studio used for ITN News bulletins from 1995 to 1999 and was based in the heart of the ITN newsroom. In 2004 it was revamped to become the home of London Today/Tonight. In 2012 it was decommissioned and converted back into office/newsroom space.
That place is full on! Imagine how much HM Queen and her husband would have seen throughout their lives and careers, and still The Queen looked genuinely intimidated and overwhelmed inside the ITN headquarters. It's all so incredibly impressive, the constant hard work and technology it takes to produce the daily news. The irony is that all staff must have been nervous while attending to Her Majesty, and at the same time she must have been nervous and overwhelmed by the whole establishment.
It's so fitting that HM Queen is greeted and ushered by ITN royalty, Sir Trevor McDonald... ITN legend! His voice is so rich and commanding. And I might also say that Mary Nightingale is the most beautiful newscaster ever, even in the 2020s. As well there, we see a baby faced Tom Bradby, nowadays the lead newscaster.
Mary Nightingale is simply a stunning beauty... I used to fancy her in my late teens in the mid 90s, around when she was presenting sports and stuff. Then I emigrated from the UK... 2 decades later visited home and saw her presenting the news looking as beautiful as ever. It was great to see her looking so well and still so attractive. She also has such a warmth about her presence and the way she delivers the news.
3:52 - This is the basement of ITN, and houses two studios, Studio 1 and 2. Both are still in use today as of 2024. In 2001 their green screen studio was based in Studio 2, with the main ITV News set in Studio 1. This would be reversed in the 2004 relaunch of ITV News and today the main ITV News and ITV London News sets are in Studio 1. Studio 2 is used by Channel 5 for their news and the Jeremy Vine morning show.
Nice to see Tim Ewart acknowledging HM Queen via satellite in Afghanistan too... not. It was almost like she was just another celebrity visitor having a look in, heh
Lol, they must have been prepping for weeks for her visit, what to say, what not to say... but imagine if there was some royal sex scandal in the news just before her visit. Awkward! 🤣
If I had been working in that building, then on a separate project for TV. She wouldn't have visited the building, She would have called off the event and they all would now. And deForest Kelly was disappointed because. He didn't get to put his arm around me
She seemed to be totally overwhelmed... news personalities and full on technology coming to her at all angles. The poor old lady was intimidated by the whole environment haha. That's saying a lot considering all what she would have seen in her life.
Come on, give the old lady a break 🤣 I think she was totally intimidated and overwhelmed, wondering what the hell was going on?! It was like technology overload. For someone her age, it would have been scrambling her mind.. lol That place looks full on!

Great piece of footage. The calibre of newsreaders ITN still had back then was exceptional. The only one left now is Mary Nightingale.
Tom Bradby works for ITV News too/ITN

Wait.... Was there a reason her dress was the same color as the greenscreen???
She's on the ball, did her homework... she knew she would disappear if accidentally caught in the greenscreen! lol
Need to bring back the ITN branding of its programmes on ITV so it can be taken seriously again.
