    I've rebloomed my poinsettia two years now, and I can absolutely guarantee that covering them with blankets, putting them in closets, etc. to induce blooming is absolutely unnecessary. Just put it in a sunny window, and avoid overhead lighting at night. You can even have lights on the other side of the room, and they'll be fine!

    After Christmas last year I found one for only .53 cents. It was half dead on Walmart's discount plant rack. For shits and giggles I bought it and transplanted it to see if I could get it to survive. It's a big bush of green now (potted). I was looking for an answer as to why it wasn't blooming. This was exactly what I needed to see. Thank you!

      Hi something similar happened to mine last year, and now I know why it hasn't flourished again the year.

    My Mom lives in the desert of Palm Springs CA. She started planting all her poinsettia gifts outside. She started with 3 and has planted a total of 8. She makes sure they are watered and prunes the flowering part off in March by cutting 1 green leaf below the colored leaves!!! That's it!!! She does absolutely NOTHING else. She has a THICK bush of poinsettia that begins blooming after Thanksgiving and throws flowers/red leaves like you can't imagine and is like storybook (she also has a small spattering of yellow ones throughout which makes it sooo beautiful)!!! INCREDIBLE...BREATHTAKING!! It is about 5 feet tall and it goes about 15 feet along her garden and 3 feet wide. It is THICK AND BEAUTIFUL.. even in the summer when it's green. Its so thick and looks like a bush/hedge. People on the golf course come by JUST to look at it when it starts "flowering".. just after Thanksgiving. IT IS MAGNIFICENT. She doesn't cover them or put them in the dark though there is night time. She doesn't do ANY pruning other than take the dead flowers off in March. She started with 3 plants and now she has about 15 feet of a BEAUTIFUL breathtaking hedge that blooms EVERY SINGLE YEAR. MAGNIFICENT.. The temperatures beginning in late May through October go as high as 110 degrees and even hotter. It cools down to 98 degrees at night. And because of the location of the desert, it is light until 8:30 9:00 at night in the mid summer. BUT THESE POINSETTIA PLANTS LOVE IT... They have NO PROBLEM in the dry heat. NOW, she DOES live on a golf course that is watered quite often so perhaps there is a bit of humidity (very little when the sun is desert sun) when they are watering at night, but other than that, they are hardy and they don't need to be in complete darkness at all..... believe me, these are MAGNIFICENT!!!!! I wish I had a picture to show you. I am going to take one this year just to post it!!

      Mimi Jeff awesome I have one in riverside that is getting huge as well. This last spring I trimmed it way back and it absolutely loved it was a great looking green hedge and now it’s first of November the 6 th to be exact and it’s starting to flower it’s absolutely gorgeous I only wish it was in my front yard for everyone to see and enjoy I have a plan now, funny thing is where my plant is there’s a barn light as well as a grow light used to veg plants and it is turning red with light from both of them with the sun great story about your moms can’t wait to get everyone’s that they plan to pitch out after holidays I wonder how many are tossed every yr? If people only knew how easy and beautiful they become.

      hi mimi, I live in Imperial County just south from Palm Springs and I know that the weather is bad in the summer. I was wondering what type of care does your mom do for the plants? I want to start my own little poinsettias project year round. I dont know If i can contact your mom and ask her for some advice on how she does it if possible?

    I live in the Caribbean so the weather is the same all year 'round - both sunny and humid. So it's not necessary for me to move my plants around as suggested here. But thanks for the information. I have both red and pink poinsettias. I've grown them quite easily outdoors in the sun for 3 years. This year, the red easily turned when I began covering them with a black plastic bag at nights. The pink however has not changed and it's less than 3 weeks to Christmas! So I've just realized that I needed to ensure that no lights from my garage goes under the plastic bag. So I've moved it closer to the back of my house where there's no night light.

    Hi Brad good video. I used to work at a nursery in Lodi California that grew poinsettias from cuttings for the holiday season. And boy did the nursery get hustling just before the cuttings came in - we had to clear and clean tables that we normally grow herbs and seasonal flowers on, then the fun began planting the cuttings. After they started growing it was such an awesome sight to see just seas of different colored poinsettias. Those were fun times 😀
    🌲🎄 happy holidays to you and your family🌲🎄

    My first poinsettia has stayed alive since Christmas last year. It’s doing very well. I’ve just gave her a new pot and she’s flourishing. Now I’m not sure I want to cut it back as suggested. I’m scared to chop her down. Will it bloom again if I avoid snipping it? I wonder if I follow the lighting directions and not snip it down will it bloom?

    I cover mine w/ a plastic garbage bag from sundown to when I rise. Mine is turning red (it's almost Thanksgiving) but getting leggy and dropping a leaves underneath . I'm thinking it's not getting enough light during daytime? or not enough water?

    Very well explained. Thx. I'm in north FL and just now put a few into the ground but my 'garden' happens to be on side of a back patio which is ...really a shady area (but very bright in afternoon as it is Florida, right?) only some palm plants I put in. Now, the poinsettias! cross your fingers.

    what happens if I find about 2 dozen or more grayish black pillbugs in the poinsettia plant that is potted? is that bad?

    • @chomama1628
      @chomama1628 4 роки тому

      Roseann Sorrentino no they eat dead wood but you can repot in fresh soil if you want to eliminate them.
