    Miao Ying was the first Legendary Campaign i completed in WH3. Even before the toning down of Kurgan incursions. In fact guard duty is a good training ground for newly recruited lords. Garissoning the bastion is super cheap, you can keep half-stacks to fend off couple of stacks as they pop up and when you get enough xp you can send them off to conquer new territories

    This was one of the first Immortal Empires campaigns that I played, and it was crazy how strong I was. If you can maintain harmony then you end up obscenely rich, you have lots of allies around, and your homeland is safer than most. jade custodian (or whatever it's called, the ancilliary with +3 recruit rank to melee jade units) is absolutely broken.
    The balance buff means line of jade warriors with jade crossbows behind beats most everything until tier 4.
    Also turn 1 recruit a yang lord, to offset miao effect and also because yang gets more replenishment/campaignmovement in technology and outside cathay you don't have a lot of that

    you can get the great bastion threat level to 1% per turn so u can make it so the kurgan only show up once every 100 turns as long as you put the 3 edicts at the gates that lower it by 1% each and I think a compass direction lowers it by 2%

    I played Miao Ying as my first successful "very hard" campaign and found it surprisingly easy and enjoyable. The early game is certainly stressful, but once you have all of Cathay you have such a secure position and pretty much infinite money, that it becomes easy mode. But it still stays engaging, with micromanaging their faction mechanics. So far my favorite Immortal Empires campaign.

    • @mandu6665

      Kislev's rites are decent and the currency is easily obtainable. Kislev's heros are also FAR FAR better than Cathay's. No one is doomstacking Cathay heroes but a Patriarch doomstack with Kostaltyn is one of the strongest in the game.

  • @irvinejt93
    @irvinejt93 Рік тому +5

    Miao Ying is a pretty comfy campaign I think. Not terribly challenging but also not lacking in things to do. The Caravan mechanic is really profitable and gives you a proper mid to late game goal, and honestly the Kurgans are just easy money most of the time. I like to have small but elite armies stationed in each gate with the upkeep reduction and CDG recruit buildings (for the global recruit time reduction), a force consisting of a dragon blooded Shugengan lord yin or yang and 4 CDG halberds and 4 crossbows is more than capable of mounting punitive expeditions into the wastes to beat back the smaller Kurgan forces and provide ample reinforcement to the garrison against bigger threats for very little cost due to the low upkeep buildings. I tend to prioritize killing Vilitch because he's an annoying little gremlin, but Kholek tends to have his hands full with Grimgor in most of my campaigns. Also, I reckon Jade Warriors are among the most cost effective melee infantry in the game, cheap as chips and a really decent stat line if you have the harmony bonus. Overall pretty good, can't wait for monkey king DLC.

    Cathay was the faction I started playing when W3 came out, I played Miao to get a feel of the game, and then went straight to Legendary with Zhao. I don't like playing Legendary for some of the restrictions but I wanted to make one to see and get the achievement. That has also been the only time I've played the original campaign and it's objectives, quickly switching to the no rifts mod and the victory conditions overhaul mod to finish the rest of the achievements and then have actual fun in inmortal empires.

    Haven't seen this mentioned, but in addition to recruiting/disbanding heroes to maintain harmony, you can also switch the growth/economy buildings back and forth between the yin and yang versions by clicking on the settlement and opening the building browser. Really helpful when you know you have a yin tech finishing up in 3 turns so you spend 3 turns switching a random building to yang.

    I really like the Cathay campaigns. For how basic their army roster is, and the fact that Cathay really only has a few real factions inside of it, I'm quite optimistic that when Cathay gets more DLC they will become hands down one of the best campaign factions in the game. Kislev was the faction I was most looking forward to in WH3 and their faction roster and campaign mechanics aren't anywhere as interesting as what Cathay has. If I did have a criticism it would be that Cathay's campaigns currently feel really easy. That can change with more DLC adding more enemies for them to fight.

    It's seriously important for everyone here to know: Do not recruit Magistrate as your generic lords; They are some of the worst generic lords as a result of having only 15 armor, and pretty bad skills. Consider recruiting Shugengan lords, as both Ying and Yang are pretty decent spells (Yang is probably better early as a result of their damage spells being mostly big damage, and Ying is probably better late from great debuff and Talon of Nights).
    That's basically it uhhhh Magistrate bad Shugengan lord probably arguably one of the best generic lords in Warhammer xoxo
    Oh, another thing to note is that Cathay has a building that allows you to recruit level 12 Astromancers from the get go in one of the provinces. It's not great since Astromancers don't do much, but it's still lore of light so it's not like, the worst to have in an army. (Chain Lightning from the get go is pretty pog)

    Cathay (particularly Miao Ying) is who I chose for my complete map-paint Immortal Empires campaign. They're well suited for that, as they make so much money through owning territory, as opposed to comparatively little by fighting battles. I'd also recommend Cathay as a very noob-friendly faction, as you can almost play TW: Warhammer battles as if you're playing Shogun 2 and still kind of get away with it.
    What I'd wish for most for them right now is a sort of next-turn-prediction for harmony, showing you what it will be if you lost no settlements between turns. Scrolling through your many settlements and watching out to do the math right is such a hassle.

    In 3.0 and 4.0 the chaos lads up north tend to bust through really early. I've seen Vilitch next to Nan-Gau sometimes as early as turn 11. So getting an alright secondary army is priority.
    I've still prioritized killing Clan Eshin on Miao first because he gives access to good amount of lands and a decent trait that gives Miao more tactical opportunities.

After that I'm not sure where they will put the others, Cathay will be a bit full by then. But I also suspect we'll get the Monkey King at some point, and they could pretty easily give him the Cathay units and say he's leading a rebellion or something like that instead of an all-new roster. • @twiceasfun9392
      @twiceasfun9392 Рік тому +1

      @Shane2020xxx I don't know about it making the Caravan faster because I thought they just kind of hop from spot to spot rather than actually moving, but maybe that's just because you never see them move. but I do still put an alchemist in every Caravan. Astromancers too, because the reason I don't normally use them is because I don't need a third caster, and the slot is better used on something else. But Caravan armies always have open space, and definitely need as much help as they can get

    • @Shane2020xxx
      @Shane2020xxx Рік тому

      @@twiceasfun9392 Solid point. I don’t know if caravans literally move or just sort of teleport their given allotment. I’d have to test it with and without Mobility Boost. But having winds of magic users to drop spells on the random encounters can really help turn the tide.

    • @richardkenan2891
      @richardkenan2891 Рік тому

      Astromancers steal technology. Cathay can't get Student ancillaries, so you want all the +Research you can get. Build the Observatory chain for +Research, set every province to the +Research commandment, and have your Astromancers stealing all the technology from your enemies. It adds up.
      Also, putting them on the War Compass mount gives you some bound spells, so if you're short on Winds in a battle, an Astromancer can help turn the tide. However, you're generally right that the one thing Grand Cathay doesn't need is more spellcasters. Their best generic lords are spellcasters, all their heroes are spellcasters, and both of their Legendary Lords are spellcasters. Give them some melee-competent characters, CA! Please! Their only non-spellcasting characters are Lord Magistrates, who will lose in melee combat to almost literally anything, and get the biggest meme of a flying mount I can imagine.

    don’t forget you can build a building to reduce recruitment for peasants -60% and if you get a lord to lvl 20 you can reduce it it even more to -100%. If you keep 2 lords at the front line and spam peasants with global and local recruitment you won’t spend any money on armies. Just make sure to disband the army or kill it in auto resolve.

      It's good, but be prepared to deal with Nakai soon enough as you expand along the coast. Wanted to keep Jiangshi Rebels alive and would have done so, but Nakai declared war on me and started to make a beeline for my main stack, wasn't up to facing his army so "tactically maneuvered" along the river - It took until it was most of the way to Hanyu Port before I could get a peace negotiation so Jiangshi got wiped out a turn before I could get there 😂

    The ivory road mechanics for all factions, for whom trade make sense, would be a great benefit. Or at least something similar, as if you have to choose wether build a garrison-outpost oder a trading post at your allies cities. Would make campaigns much more interesting than just give trade for free across the map, regardless of borders or harbours. That simplifying of the campaign gameplay was really no benefit. Especially because they cut it off at so many points too. IE has degraded quickly to paint-the-map in the most simple manner. The only challenge is, that enemies are throwing waves of armies at the player. 10, 12, more at a turn. After the 300th battle against chaos, i had seen it quite for a while. I don't return to the game, as long the campaign, the strategy part of it, is not getting more interesting again.

    • @richardkenan2891
      @richardkenan2891 Рік тому +1

      Yeah, it's nearly impossible to get your caravan guards enough additional units to field a full stack, much less a balanced and properly functional army capable of fighting off attacks from actual hostile factions. And your caravan only being active about half the time means the masters level up super slowly. And given how lackluster Cathayan heroes are, the ability to insert heroes into your caravan guards is not enough help. There are just so many ways the caravans scale poorly, which leads to the Ivory Road essentially not working after the early mid-game at latest.
      At this point, I just view the Ivory Road as a free Von Carstein Blade and a Warrant of Trade, with a side order of some money thrown in. And expect it to stop as soon as Grimgor decides the Mountains of Mourn look tasty. Kind of looking forward to the Chaos Dwarfs, who at least *MIGHT* be susceptible enough to bribery and powerful enough to keep the Ivory Road open for me.

Having several armies running around taking new territory means your harmony needs constant intervention.
