Is Taki trying to take over the world?! Excited for these
Just bringing more fun to the party
God bless him!
I already have an analogue pocket but I would be all over a portable MiSTer
So do I and so would I :) haha
@@VideoGameEsotericaI'm dreaming of something like a slightly bigger PS Vita with six face buttons (gotta be able to play Saturn, obviously), 4 shoulder buttons and a somewhat larger screen. Not too big so the device is still pocketable
The Vita is such a great handheld. I wouldn’t complain with that design
Wish I waited for this over the pocket, oh well… if taki can do this mister handheld with a nice fast 4:3 oled id be all over it
@@VideoGameEsotericagotta be 4:3 tho, but if it’s oled black bars are fine. Shitty led black bars are the worst
Begun, the clone wars have!
Cheesy
More like the Fgpa wars! With all the different variations of new fpga consoles consoles on the horizon, hopefully, most of them don't turn out to be vapor ware!
Let’s not use the word wars lol. That gets the crazies all riled up
War. War never changes.
That's not how you spell funny, @@VideoGameEsoterica 😂
This is awesome and will bring so many people to the project hopefully more devs. Im excited
That’s the hope!
Considering how many handheld consoles Taki has tested and reviewed over the years and the experience and understanding that comes from it, there is good potential that this Mister handheld might just turn out to become one of the greatest retro gaming handhelds of all time. I'm hoping that Taki keeps taking as much time as needed to create a well thought through, ergonomic and premium feeling design for the handheld model. If this device will be capable of running PS1, Saturn and N64 cores, maybe a 6 button layout with two analog sticks might be the way to go? Definitely a very exciting development!
He certainly knows what NOT to do
Looking forward to seeing lag testing on the handheld as personally that’s my big reason for using FPGA devices. In theory the input lag should be very low but you never know with video processing and LCD panel hardware. Regardless it will be worth testing.
As long as it’s under 16ms it’ll be golden
exciting times. I've been talking to a couple of friends about the benefits in fpga gaming and at this price point I think they might be interested
It’ll get a LOT more people involved. Which we need
I hope the flagship has snac adapter modules for various consoles (included). A built in upscaler with motion adaptive deinterlacer would also be a nice touch.
Gonna have to wait and see :)
Yes built in upscaler would be awesome even for all the else cline multi cart systems
Still no word yes as to what
I've always wanted a 2nd MiSTer for the living room! looks like im either going to scoop the console or just the de10 and print my own case!
It’ll be interesting to see the console design
Loving the fact we have options to suit our budget.
FPGA is truly the future of retro gaming 😊
More options is always a good thing
i have a feeling the budget console will target be a snes fpga console to target the analogue market.
That’s kind of my guess too
I love the Bomberman music in the background.
Glad someone noticed :)
I'll probably end up buying both the console and handheld (after reviews come out of course). For the console, I hope that at bare minimum it will take NES, SNES and Genesis carts (especially everdrives), especially since you can't get any of the three Analogue consoles anymore (unless you want to take a change of going on Ebay or FB marketplace).
Same. I can’t pretend I won’t lol
give us a six button handheld 😤😤😤😤
I’d be that’s in the cards considering CPS 2
PSX would need more than 6
You’d have shoulders too
@@Jokerwolf666I think he means 6 face buttons like Genesis & Saturn
I’d like six face, four shoulder
This is a great option for my second MiSTer.
It’ll make my fourth lol
Already owm an AP as well but definitely interested in a Mister handheld. It looks like the handheld will slot in the Mister in the back rather than being a different hardware design. At least thats how I interpret the teader image.
It could be anything based on the tease
handheld is surely interesting, i'd have to say that the silhouette is almost surely modeled after an xbox controller, has the same shaped top buttons.
Had PSX vibes to me but maybe that’s just me
If you didn’t have that doggie pointy pen I would honestly be lost. Anyways great vids!
Dog AND cat pen. I have both :)
Good to know my setup that costs as much as a PS5 will soon be worth as much as a PS2..😅
Haha just be happy others can get in on the fun. It’s the way gaming works
competition is good
It isn’t even really competition. Terasic is such a massive company it’s not like this is anything but a new way to play
With all the new players like Mars Analogue Replay 2 Takis board and whoever else., there definitely could be competition. Terasic is not really involved cuz the board was never meant as a gaming console it was only supposed to be a development board for education purposes. But all the companies like misteraddons ultimate mister retrocastle basically anyone who makes and sells the boards for gaming purposes is where there already is some competition and with the new players hopefully coming there will be even more which will be a great thing. Now some may be in different price categories so they may not all compete with each other but at least we will hopefully have tons of options.
It’ll be an interesting next 12-18 months
Ok good stuff,,, just want to use it like a Pandora box with a Jamma personally
I bet you’ll be able to
We'll have to see if he clones the Mistercade.
I don’t think he’s going to start cloning other makers proprietary devices. It’s one thing to do a DE-10 clone
Well for me as arcade engineer this is a favourable solution for fixing things, some impossible to fix games. So you can see what I am thinking, although we just come up with cheap solutions as we have to
Love my pocket but I could end up shelving it depending on how good this handheld mister turns out
It could make pocket a bit obsolete
I'm hoping the handheld will be something like a Raspberry Pi compute module, which can be integrated into other projects.
It’ll be interesting to see what form it takes
I want the clone board, as soon as I hear some people say it's good.
I’ll def review it once it’s ready
Was that a chopstick? What happened to your groovy little hand pointer thingy? That thing is rad.
They change all the time and yes that was a chopstick 🤣
Taki: shut up and take my money
Soon I bet
Oled on the handheld please taki! Super low latency
The handheld is what I’m most excited about
I hope there's a console + clone board at or below $200.
I wonder if it's possible for the clone to be a slightly upgraded MiSTer that can play those last handful of N64 games w/o issue 🤔
Doubtful. It’s a true clone
If the budget consoles are like Analogue's Mini NT, Super NT, and Mega SG, I'll get them if he ever releases one per system. And this ia coming from someone who has a Super NT, Mega SG and RetroUSB AVS.
It’ll be interesting to see what the budget variant is
I'm trying to understand more and it's a bit hard to track down info... Like you said in the video, Taki said it won't run everything. So will it only run things like the 16 bit era? Cores like the N64 are likely to be nixxed.
I feel like that goes doubly so for the MiSTer Pocket but I hope I'm wrong.
And, on another note.. I hate to bring MARS into this because they are significantly more expensive... but isn't Taki doing the same thing that many critics of MARS are? Namely that MARS is profiting off of the hard open source work of many other developers?
To be clear, I don't have an issue with either utilizing the amazing efforts of core developers out there. I'm just saying I've noticed a significant lack of criticism towards Taki when they seem very similar. I think it's great what Taki is doing but I also find it funny how the "community" handles things differently.
Great video!
The info isn’t clear yet on what the budget console will run. Going to have to wait for more info
I'm one of the guys that's just sitting back until it gets commercially consolized for consumer buying. If it's around $300 I'm sold
I think you’ll come in right around that price if not better
Still uncertain what exactly shall differentiate the budget and mainstream variants other than some dust covers for the ports but I'd welcome either one, really.
If GB/GBC/GBA, SNES and MegaDrive, as well as PS1, DOS PC and C64 work, I'd be fine already as those were machines of my childhood.
Well and Nintendo64 in that sense as well but I imagine this one could be more problematic.
Yes the difference between the two right now isn’t wholly clear
Is mister's arcade compatibility about the same as FBneo?
My english is poor. So I think I didn't understood one point. This clone will have pins to connect a cartridge slot?
Some will. But not the DE10 1:1 clone it seems
Any info on whether or not the console versions will support SNAC?
No concrete info yet
I mean you can't go wrong with a portable mister
No you cannot :)
I only just thought that if the price of De10 goes down even more. We would start getting tons of chinese FPGA handhelds of all shapes and sizes.
Nope. Cloned instead :)
@@VideoGameEsoterica ....oh. Well, It would be great for Taki because he can just review them all. lol
Haha I think he’s going to want independent reviews since he’s part of the project
@@VideoGameEsoterica I think he'll probably do an overview video to explain everything that's on it and what it can do.
Oh for sure. But usually new projects gets independent reviews as well from people in that category
Sorry if I missed this or something, but are the non-DE10 form factor boards going to be available as bare boards for custom case designs, or is the plan to sell everything buttoned up as a finished product?
(Obviously the handheld is a bit more of a specific situation)
Seems like buttoned up products
@@VideoGameEsoterica Pity, but maybe Taki will be the first person to make a mister case that isn't sinfully ugly
The Metal MiSTer addons case is a charmer. Dunno what you are talking about lol
@@VideoGameEsoterica okay look, I do like that you described it as a charmer - and I think we'll look back on it as oddly iconic - but what I mean is: none of them give you (or at least me) the *vibe* of sitting in front of and using a console, which is a big part of it
Is that MiSTer console only compatible with the $100 clone or will it work with the DE10 as well?
We don’t know quite yet
so cool
Promising so far
I have a question , the budget and mainstream only have 2 usb ports , can we use a usb hub with these ?
You can more than likely use the ports to plug in a hub would be my guess
@@VideoGameEsoterica what do you think the price of the budget and mainstream are gonna be ? , he said on twitter these are more for one core , that’s why the low ram
If guess 150 and up
My flagship wish? 4K
You’d need some sort of additional scaler hardware as the DE-10 just can’t push 4K
@@VideoGameEsoterica This isn't a de10 nano, though?
I believe it’s all built around the clone Nano
Can i play with the n64 core with 64mb of ram? And the saturn one?
Saturn wise I’m not sure but some n64 games will work on less ram. Just depends on game size
Thank you for putting clothes on before recording your CRT, vge!
Haha I’m no fool
[algorithm food]
🤣
It's about time to bring FPGA into the right form factor. These things look like flight recorders, ugly as f. Availability is also a huuuuge problem. An FPGA system is €350 upwards, right now.
They aren’t cheap but for what they offer I think they are a good value
FIRST!
Hall of fame first ballot streak
S-Video getting slept on as usual 🫤 lol
You can still get S video from the vga port at least I’d assume
@@VideoGameEsoterica yeah and hopefully out of that Saturn style DIN connector too. I just thought it was funny that pretty much every other connector type was included besides the one I use most. Surprised he went with component over SCART as well
S video is always the stepchild connector
@@prufrockrenegade If you use s video quite a bit, I would highly recommend one of the amazing RGB->S-Video adapters out there. I have Axunwork's device and it works fantastically with my S-Video only CRTs.
It is a bit of a 😩investment but I find it worth it.
