Please join me Monday March 16th at 8:30 PM MST here on UA-cam for a live stream where we will answer any questions you have about the new Ripmo and just hang out and catch up!
Appreciate the honest review. I have the "old" RIPMO and love it. My son has the "NEW" RipmoAF, and loves it. Tough to go wrong with IBIS at this point.
I own the old Ripmo, and had a Works angleset installed to slacken the head tube angle by 1 degree, and I believe it was around 80 to 90 dollars. Good option for those who are looking for the extra bit of stability.
This video really makes me want to head out west again and ride for a few days. Glad to hear that they didn't totally change the bike, hopefully some of the other manufacturers take note.
I talked to you about a week ago and you gave me some great advice. I pick up my new Ripmo V2 Wednesday... I got bug zapper blue. It looks so much better in person
Jason, dude.... you just saved me thousands of dollars! I'm kidding... but seriously I still love my Ripmo V1. I've ridden a ton of demo bikes this year and I personally think the tiny geo changes in the V2 are great but you really have to be a bean counter to think it will change the bike dramatically. As an upgrade path for the old V1 owners, I have to highly suggest upgrading that old tune DPX2. I'm now on a DVO Topaz back there. It addresses the support, bottom out, etc you talked about in the V2. It's a cheaper upgrade path for V1 owners IMO. Great video man! Thanks!
You had me hooked on Ibis when we talked about the Mojo HD4 and we were blown away by how much better it felt than any other bike we rode that weekend 2 years ago. Finally getting one in our shed but it's the Ripmo AF for my son with the coil set up. Hoping to see an Ibis emtb sometime so I can get one and get back into shape to get out and rip a regular mtb again too!!!
I had a chance to ride the V2 this past weekend in Sedona. I agree with everything you have stated here. The new progressive kinematics were quite noticeable and favorable to me.... However with the Assegai tire front and rear it made this thing SO INNEFICIENT... I already experimented with en EXO assegai front this year, and had to remove it for this reason... I absolutely love to try this bike with a DHF or DHR front tire and agressor rear.... Great bike though! They started stocking CoCo Joy here at a gas station in Austin,Good Stuff!
I can’t figure out why Ibis chose the Assegai for this year. I have had the v1 since July 2018 with DHF and Aggressor. Just ordered a new DHF and a Dissector for the rear.
Jason I really enjoy your reviews. Your videos are very well done with detailed reviews of each of the bikes you ride. Thank you so much for all the time you put into the videos and reviews.
Hey Jayson, I demoed the V2 Ripmo from Salt cycles. I was blown away by how punchy and playful it was for being such a big smooth bike! I’m coming from a BMX and hardtail background so this bike seriously blew my mind 😂 Chris is going to give me a call so he can get one on order for me! Thanks for the great reviews, I didn’t know about Ibis or Salt Cycles before finding your Chanel. Cheers to the Spring thaw and great riding to come!
So glad you got a chance to demo one. Chris is always really good about getting the demo truck there quickly right after the release of a new bike. They're the best! Congratulations on the new bike hope it gets here soon!
I can't say enough, I have no need for a V2, as my V1 with Fox-X2 with 4 tokens gives me all the Progression I need. Also, my -1.5 Degree Works Angleset makes my V1 even SLACKER than the V2! I made a 1 year review of my V1 just recently, it is long and winded, but in short, the Ripmo is the BEST DO IT ALL TRAIL BIKE OF ALL TIME! and as she is set up now, I do NOT believe I need anything more even for ENDURO racing.
Hey Erich, thanks for your input. Looking at getting the Ripmo shortly and quick question - why did you do the X2 vs the DPX2? Also, how much do you weigh? I'm 185lbs and ride fairly hard. Thanks! (PS I'm a Denver boy, it looks like you're also in CO)
@@tomchanin7602 , I have never ridden a DPX2 and have no desire to. I currently have 3.bikes with an X2 and a big fanboi of the X2 due to it's unlimited tuneability. I weigh 165 geared up and feel like 4 tokens is perfect for me.
The timing on this couldn't be better. I have been debating jumping on a closeout V1 Ripmo, buying an AF now, or holding out and getting a carbon V2. Seems like the V1 would be a good way to go.
Allegedly, ibis will soon offer the v.2 Ripmo with the DVO rear shock option as the Ripmo AF. Also, the DPX2 has the new tune on it as well. Jason, glad to hear your impressions are there not that different from each other which means the new one is still very good. I have a feeling this bike is going to really push them forward into some serious growth. #Popular
Very high quality videos! Can you add a low pass filter to eliminate the rumble? Your windscreen on the Go Pro does a great job on the rest of the noise. Never noticed this until watching on the home theater system. Your videos are that good!
I forgot the mic I usually use for the camera I'm filming with on this video.... was super frustrated at the time but oh well... we did that best we could with what we had. Thanks!
Man, I have deposits on a switchblade and SB130 LR, and now I want this bike. So many good bikes. Maybe I'll put a deposit on all 3 and whichever comes in first will be my new bike. Have you ridden the Giant Trance X 29er yet?
@@mtbyumyum Such a hard decision but I ended up with an SB130. Just felt like an all around great bike. I was logging better times on climbs and descents too, but the Aggressor vs DHR out back could have been a bigger factor than the bikes.
The new Ripmo should be slightly less snappy handling, climb steeper better, and smooth out the fast downhill a bit more confidently at *Mach-Chicken* speed. Did they also relax the offset on the new Ripmo forks?
Jason, I demoed they V2 Ripmo last weekend at Sedona MTB festival. I’m 6’1” and demoed the XL. The bike was great! I did encounter a ton of pedal strikes even more than my V3 SC Bronson. Did you experience this at all?
Crank length is prob the cause. I ride an xl and 170 arms. Replaced with 165 and no more strikes. I run 3 spacers and very plush but also takes big hits for 220 lbs rider. Shorter arms were my fix.
I would like to here this as well. i have a Med V1 and was wanting a bit more reach (Im 5'9) so was thinking of going Large but the reach did increase from V1 to V2 so I am curious if it was noticeable. Maybe i will stick with the Med when i get the V2. Blows my mind that the average male height is 5'9 and bike companies make this the cutoff between sizes...
@@mtbkc8975 I tried the medium Ripmo AF and that has the same geo as the V2 carbon. The reach was definitely longer and I felt too stretched out so it might be perfect for you.
@@mtbyumyum ok maybe I'll check it out lol! Btw I had my Ripmo out in your neck of the woods last year. Road tripped from Wisconsin through Colorado and over to Moab. Rode Trestle, Pallisade Rim, Captain Ahab, and of course Whole Emchilada. The Ripmo was killer - to the point where about halfway down the Enchilada I started getting really reckless with my line and perforated a tire right through the tread. Good times lol

You've got that right! Ibis is making the best trail bikes in the world right now in my opinion. Absolutely love them
Just placed my order for a Bug Zapper Blue V2! Joining team Ibis and 29ers for the first time! Thanks for the great videos!
Nice, congrats thank you

I've heard good things

Yeah, the writing here is absolutely incredible! Second to none. And yes, props to Ibis for not changing such a good things

Words of reason, so needed in todays social media

Nice one. I'd love to see such a back to back comparison between V2S and V3. That would be interesting, wouldn't it?

Great video Jason, I'm super stoked that my old Ripmo is not obsolete. 🤙
haha yeah buddy!
I did the unthinkable: I found a good deal on a lightly used demo V1 Ripmo, NX build and pulled the trigger!
congrats! enjoy
What's a good deal? I just got offered a 2019 with factory upgraded suspension for 3500

Dan I just placed my order too!! V1 for me, couldn't beat the price.
I would think 1 degree slacker in the HA would be noticeable
Yeah, if you're on a budget or just value of a better price point value the old ripmo can't be beat. Do you get a discount hop on it!
Chad Clark yes! Just ordered my V1. Gonna be a long couple weeks but I’m so excited.
Dude ! That’s exactly the debate I’m having ,what did you choose ?
Great review! I just picked up a v1 ripmo on closeout
congrats!
I absolutely love the old RIPMO and still feels the new rides the same
Yeah why completely change such a perfectly good bike. I think the changes they made were perfect

I totally agree. When it comes to do everything trail bikes for people who like to go high speed with a little bit rougher terrain this is the bike!

Awesome video Jason! Any chance you'll be able to do a ride and review on a 2020 Kona Process 153? Cheers
Great content Jason. Hope the race goes well!
the race was a mud fest... more on that at the live stream monday evening....
Great review! Where are you riding in St. George in this video?
Zen Trail and Barrel Trail
Paint is better on the V1
I bought the Lab Austere hip pack because of your recommendation and love it. Thanks
So glad to hear. I absolutely love mine and take it on every single ride!
I was one of those that bought a 2020 rippy and got it last December. It's a killer build but I kinda wish I got the V2. Sad face.

Hey Jason, you mention in the video that the brakes on the V2 are more powerful. What brakes are on each bike?
Mr Trailpops Dual piston XTR shimanos, super power stoppage.
Yeah, the brakes on the old ripmo that we had were a 2 piston brake and the new ripmo had four piston XTR
Oh yeah! Great review! Team Ibis
Yeah buddy!
Yum yum- SB130 Lunchride or Ripmo V2?
I've not yet ridden the sb130 lr
So basically pick the color you like better? Have you tried the newer Maxxis Dissector vs the Aggressor?
Yeah, that's about right. I just picked up a dissector tire I'm going to try on the front of my bike. We'll see how it goes
I wonder why the head tube is a degree steeper than the ripmo AF?
Does the reach bother you on the new V2? The V1 was shorter and at 5'7" I could feel the difference

That difference in suppleness you noted was probably the traction tune.
Bingo, yeah I think so!
Which Bike doyou prefer? The 2020 Ripley or the ripmo v2???

Shimano XTR dual piston brakes, super power brakes and so much better than guides.

Ripmo
Jason (@mtbyumyum) what would be your favorite bike for the St. George UT area? How did the Ripmo handle Zen Trail?
Ripmo is excellent for southern Utah
How do you like those TLD knee pads?
excellent! I have a link in the description of all my video's that you can click on to order.... and it pays me a commission so thank you!
The reach is longer medium was 446 now 460. Does it have any effect on sizing feel? I’m curious because I’m 5’9” right on the size cusp.
Yeah, for people who are 5'9" or 5'10 your sometimes right in between that medium or large. I felt very good at five foot eight on a medium
140 lbs? front shock. 13psi for 15% sag. rear shock 17psi for 20% sag 3psi in the tires front and rear.
Haha 59 psi fork, 188 psi shock 18 psi tires
Pivot switchblade , 429 or rip mo???
all good bikes.... just depends on your speed of riding and trails you ride... Good luck!

29er = sak ripmo
haha yeah, that does happen from time to time
