    Have you had a chance to ride a mixed wheel "mullet" bike yet? Is it even on your radar? I've absolutely loved riding these bikes the past few weeks... also been spending time on the mixed wheel Ibis HD6 for a few weeks... loving it!! Would you consider a mixed wheel bike for your next trail bike?

      MX is the dream! It meets and exceeds all the hype around it. All the front wheel rollover of a 29er and the corning of a 27.7.

    I'm so glad someone finally did this video! I LOVE my BronsonMX. I never thought a bike could make me feel so stable in the air jumping. I have felt the rear wheel hangup in jank but in steep tech the Bronson shines.
    And Yes, the MULLET setup meets all the Hype! It's the dream.

    Just mulletted my 2019 Bronson V3. Flip chip on high, bars slammed but using Spank Vibrocore with 50 mm rise. I love it. Never liked analog full 29ers on all mountain or enduro bikes, but the 29er up front to eat the holes does help- less having to lift the front wheel so a bit less fatigue as I get older- and about half a degree slacker makes for a bit more confidence when going steep. Love the way the 27.5 rear wheel carves a turn and how it spins up faster from a stop making powering up steeps or slow going in pedal tech easier. By keeping the bars lower on the stem but using a higher rise bar I brought the bars up without bringing them back to help offset the slacker HTA and STA (also moved my seat forward a bit) so really no front end lift and no crazy gymnastics needed to prevent it on any trails I can ride up. Love the full 29er of my Ibis Oso though. When you have a motor to help, weight and wheel diameter doesn’t matter.

    Great video Jason, still can't wait to hear your HD6 video that I'm sure is coming. A couple of points... The new VPP feels really bottomless and its known for its traction and suppleness. DW is known for this playfulness and amazing climbing ability hardtail like. Suspension: New Rockshox vs Fox. Fox gives you more of a feel of the trail beneath you, crisp feel, new Rockshox stuff really dampens the trail, dulls the chatter vs crisp on the chatter with insane small bump sensitivity but when things get rough the last travel stroke is stable, control feeling, and confidence inspiring. Fox is loud rear shocks but Rockshox are silent. Have Rockshox superdeluxe ultimate on the Ripmo v3 and its so much quieter than the fox and feels deeper and plus in the travel. Now have a Vivid also on order just to see how it will feel on the Ripmo v3.

    I wonder how the Ripley in MX mode compares to the Santa Cruz 5010 v5. That would be a good review. Ibis really hit it out of the park with the new Ripley and Ripmo being 29er and MX. It's the best of both worlds.

    I purchased my 2023 Specialized Levo SL with the mullet wheelset and rode it for 3 months that way. Changed to a full 29er and found it had a lot more stability and speed with that setup. But, I am 200+ pounds which seems to have made the 29er wheels a better choice.

      Yeah, I've always really appreciated that about Ibis.... That said, I think this bike is just different than anything I've ridden from Ibis in the past... I've spent so much time on Ibis bikes that past few years, all of which have the light traction tune... so I'm familiar with that rear shock feeling. This new Ripmo is extra smooth in my experience!!

    Another great review, Jason. I like hearing about how the bike feeeeel in real world applications, not just tech specs. I’m curious out of these two, which one handles steep chunky technical descending better? Did the Bronson’s stability and “safe” feeling carryover to those situations a little better than the Ripmo?

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  Місяць тому

      Luckily I was able to ride loose steep chunky trail on both bikes and I wouldn't say there was a clear winner. Both bikes had the same tires too! I would still give the nod to the Bronson in stability and "stuck to the ground" feeling.
