It's not a matter of how many records they sold, many people have beaten Led Zeppelin at that; the reason I appreciate them is because of the sophisticated emotions and pure talent they all had. Anyone who has good taste in music or knows a thing or two about how making music works should have great respect for this band.

I love how Robert gets a kick out of Jonesy singing at the 3:32 mark - Jonesy was a very mostly mild personality - that's how he sang - he's in Led Zeppelin - deal with it critics ! Then - the next Jonesy response at 3:46 he tries to put a "lil - something - something" into it and he looks at Plant for approval and they have a smile together !!! Brilliant !
Before the song started - Jimmy, Robert and Bonzo are having a little talk - Bonzo or Jimmy says something funny - you can Bonzo talk and then laugh and Robert laughs too ! Good stuff !

I like this song best when Jones or Bonham did the backup. I think their voices suit the vibe of the song perfectly; I mean, even though their tones might not be technically beautiful, they fit the 'passed down through generations folk song' theme so well, and give the song wonderful effect.

They don't take themselves too serious here and Robert is playing around with technical means that cut in my ear (I mean the passages with that artificial microphone sound), but sings wonderfully effortlessly, while JPJ tries his very best. Queen of Light took her bow
And then she turned to go,
The Prince of Peace embraced the gloom
    And walked the night alone.
Oh, dance in the dark of night,
    Sing to the morning light.
The dark Lord rides in force tonight
And time will tell us all.
Oh, throw down your plow and hoe,
Rest not to lock your homes.
Side by side we wait the might
Of the darkest of them all.
    I hear the horses' thunder
    Down in the valley blow,
I'm waiting for the angels of Avalon,
    Waiting for the eastern glow.
The apples of the valley hold,
    The seas of happiness,
The ground is rich from tender care,
Repay, do not forget, no, no.
Oh, dance in the dark of night,
    Sing to the morning light.
The apples turn to brown and black, the tyrant's face is red.
Oh the war is common cry, pick up you swords and fly.
The sky is filled with good and bad
    That mortals never know.
Oh, well, the night is long, the beads of time pass slow,
Tired eyes on the sunrise, waiting for the eastern glow.
The pain of war cannot exceed
    The woe of aftermath,
The drums will shake the castle wall,
The ring wraiths ride in black, ride on.
Sing as you raise your bow,
    Shoot straighter than before.
No comfort has the fire at night
That lights the face so cold.
Oh dance in the dark of night,
    Sing to the mornin' light.
The magic runes are writ in gold
To bring the balance back, bring it back.
At last the sun is shining, the clouds of blue roll by,
With flames from the dragon of darkness
    The sunlight blinds his eyes.

Poor guy, anyone know the story behind it? Just sick or hey, maybe just worn out from working so much? I've never seen a performance where he seemed to struggle a bit in this one.

Can I just go back in time and see LZ in on their glory! I never realized when my high school boyfriend was obsessed with LZ and it used to get on my nerves....now at age 56, I feel like I missed so much. My wish would be to meet Jimmy and Robert in person and (John) if he was still with us....before I die!! There is no other and thank you for your music

I just turned 56 & I totally agree with you. My older sister had all of their albums & I only liked Stairway to Heaven until I grew up. So many excellent songs...unbelievable.

I agree! Has nice tone, sings on key, and I actually think the "normalness" of his voice blended with Plant's unworldly one makes for a really ethereal experience!

They need to tour again.. they still have it. They could make a fortune. I was lucky enough to see Plant a couple times and a Page and Plant show. Robert Plant refuses to tour again with old Zep songs.

    • @joeyburgess6994
      @joeyburgess6994 5 років тому

They have a combined 500 million or more, aka a fortune, already. They will never tour again. Rumor has it Page cant play the songs anymore (he's 74 god bless him) and Plant just turned 70 and this last tour of his band may be the last he does. I bet JPJ could do it but that's it.

Cause it would be pathetic, except for Jonsie cause he doesn't seem to age. And it's just not the same with Jason on drums.

+ when you have the greatest rock and blues vocalist of all time singing lead and the best drummer in the history of the world keeping the rhythm it does not matter that the backup vocals suck.

There are some songs that are better on the studio version, this is one of them in my opinion.
However, I love them when they smile each other or when Robert shakes his head. Best band in the world for me!!
