A return to my teenage years. Zeppelin and Floyd and Aerosmith, Sabbath, Skynyrd, Dire Straights, Eagles, CCR, Boston, Bad Company, Nugent... So many more. Just the greatest decade of music ever.
After listening to Led Zeppelin for over 55 years the vocals interplay still gives me goosebumps. One of their true masterpieces. Such a sad story what happened to Sandy Denny. So many gifted musicians and singers died far too early in their lives when they had so much more to give to the world of music.
Zeppelin the most spiritual Rock music by far. It's song's like EVERMORE that never get old, evertime I hear it, I feel the spirit in my own soul rise up. The first album I heard is this one. Thank you Zeppelin for making it across the real pond. Mid+evil spiritual song the word& the music genius. God save the King 2!!!!!!!!!
Side A of that album remains iconic in memories of my youth. It is quite possibly the best album side ever produced: Black Dog, Rock n Roll, the Battle of Evermore and ... oh yeah, that Stairway song.
For all their wonderful blistering rock tunes, this is my favourite Led Zep track. Sandy Denny's vocals are stunning. I think she was the only artist to guest on a Led Zep track.
i love this melody, this sound, this song, so mystic so expressive, the voices, melancholic too, like a long trip of a open mind through many colors! arpund the streets
My introduction to the magical beauty of Sandy and British folk rock on the whole. From there - her solo stuff, Fairport, Fotheringhay, then Steeleye Span, Pentangle, Bert Jansch, Richard Thompson's solo work and with Linda, The Trees, June Tabor, Mr. Fox, Shirley Collins, Anne Briggs etc, etc. What an amazing world, opened up and all from this track.
Compositional Masterpiece; there is so much happening in this song that is genius. The tempo, strum and rhythm change at 5:10 into the outro is brilliant. Chills forever.
Sometimes it's good to NOT hear songs or albums... So that when you choose to hear it again you come to it with fresh ears. Bravo Led Zeppelin and fresh ears! Fantastic
This song always brings a tear to my eyes it is sooo good. Funny how that works. The choice of using Sandy Denny for this duet was brilliant. I think Robert ran into her at an awards ceremony from a Sandy Denny documentary I was watching and the drummer from Fotheringay telling the story. Sandy Denny's voice was the female equal of Robert Plants I think and she had an emotion and depth that few could reach when singing a song. Just listen to Who Knows Where The Time Goes and see how it touches your soul. Led Zeppelin were one of the biggest bands around at the time according to the drummer and Sandy Denny was the only guest singer to ever sing with Led Zeppelin. Sadly she passed away a few years after this duet. 1978 I think. Much like Karen Carpenter she died way too early leaving us to wonder how many more great songs they could have sung. Robert forged on after Led Zeppelin and gave us so many gems of songs. There is something about youth and talent way beyond your years though that puts Led Zeppelin IV in a special place. I believe it was released in 1971 and it is one of those albums that defies time. Battle Of Evermore with Sandy definitely moves it into that category. Thank you so much for the music and songs Gentleman and Folk Rock Lady. Wish we could Bring It Back ..and see you perform it just once. I imagine that every time I hear it....and that is what also brings a tear to my eyes, it can never be. :(
@@bloomfusion The Bring it Back part at the end of this recording gives me shivers down my spine everytime. The mixing with the reverb and a little bit of delay and Robert's pleading passionate voice with the crescendo at the end tailing off into just the mandolin and guitar fading out is one of those magical moments caught on tape. A message based in a medieval setting but relevant for all time. For our time now. As Smedley Butler wrote in 1933. War is a racket. Another great observation from the past.

Sandy Denny fits so lovely here. Led Zep fans who have never heard any Fairport Convention should give them a listen. For a similar vibe to this one I recommend Tam Lin, from the album Liege and Lief, which basically invented folk rock.
Probably true, but I remember back around 1982, a certain debate in my homeroom at Abington High School (Abington, PA, USA) about who was actually better Lynyrd Skynyrd or Zeppelin. 😊😊😊
When I was younger I thought this song was overplayed and it didn't interest me as much as their other songs... Now many decades in, I realize this really is a masterpiece
The vocals are unbelievable throughout the entire song, Sandy Denny and Robert Plant give the performance of a lifetime here. But that buildup and final scream by Robert Plant is just incredible, it's such a cool and brutal way to end a song that is mostly hauntingly beautiful, it almost doesn't sound human.
I have been listening to this song since at least 1975 and only learned in the last few months that the great late Sandy Denny was a guest vocalist on this song. In fact from what I have come to understand she is the only guest vocalist to ever appear on a Led Zep song. How in the F&*% did I miss that for 48 years???
I do not understand how the human imagination came up with this song. Beautiful and eerily unique. For a song to be so fairy tale-ish in its theme, while being worthy of an edgy hard rock ballad in its style, is just amazing to me. Mesmerizing isn't a good enough of a word to describe it. It's mythical. Hypnotic. And I will say that this is one of the greatest musical masterpieces in the entire history of music. It's other worldly when you listen to it by a little campfire at night; echoing through the trees and over the fields, and saturating the thin night air. Peter Jackson should have incorporated this in The Lord of the Rings at some point. Strange that he didn't. This is in the same category for me that Stairway to Heaven, Dream On, Gimme Shelter, Year of the Cat, Wildfire, Highway Song, Half Moon Silver, and several others belong to. Simply incredible. Another phenomenal, melancholy piece of musical genius from what might be the greatest era in music.
MIGHT be, the greatest era in music? There will never be ANOTHER era like it, NEVER! Good to have grown up at that time, we were making history as participants! I was playing all that stuff too, still am!

Yes, so true. And that's because Plant is a true English poet, while Jimmy made music out of thin air that no one else could conceive. And as a producer in the studio ... OMG!
Pure🙂

Sandy Denny is the town crier. What a glorious voice she had, Dance in the dark of light, sing to the morning light.
My favourite singer Sandy Denny. The only guest singer Led Zeppelin every had.
Sandy Denny, never forgotten.
Let's all acknowledge Sand Denny, on this song. RIP Sandy🙏
Yes Sandy Denny a strong voice in its range. Died too quickly too young.
The only female to sing on a zeppelin lp.
@@bobyatson1165
The only collaboration, I believe.
Yes to all! Sandy ~ 🙏RIP
😊😊😊 well put brother
This beggars belief. It’s perfect.
This song took Led IV to another level.
RIP Sandy Denny. The one staircase she never fell down was the stairway to heaven..
Which was a false one.
"Watch your step" is the sign on the wall

That Tolkienesque Olde England mystical fairy vibe played a big part in the music of Led Zeppelin.
Led Zeppelin is Timeless. My dad introduced me to them at 8 years old. I'm almost 40 and I still can't believe how good they were
My oldest brother was in a rock band. I was 7 and used to sneak into the basement of my stepdad barber shop where they played and watched . Mystic illusion was the band name. I was turned on to the music at an early age. From Zeppelin to Rush U.F.O. and Yes.
That's pretty cool 😎 all kids should be introduced to music at an early age.
BEST ROCK BAND IN HISTORY . One of their best songs, brilliant
Amazing vocals by Robert and Sandy.
Dude, this is really beautiful, it deserves more recognition
Trust me, this song is plenty recognized.
Led zeppelin 4 great tape lol drove 7 hours to pt Macquarie from Sydney with 4 of us non stop of the tape
My favorite Zeppelin song. I've never stopped listening to it since the first time I heard it. It never gets old. And no matter how many times I listen to it I never burn out on it. Long live Led Zeppelin
One of my favorites. It's captivating.
BRING IT BACK!!
The mark of a true masterpiece, you always return to it, but I must admit in my case, I thought to know all the music of this perfection, but now I just found this, and it blew me away!
Not a worry in the world listening to this song cranked up!
So hypnotizing! Sandy Denny and Robert Plant compliment each others vocals so well. Every time i play this, i get so entranced by it's harmony. This is definitely a song for our present times. Beautiful and haunting. Nothing short of exemplary!
I'm so glad I was a teen in the 70's. Southern California. First-wave vertical pool skateboarder. CRANKING Led Zeppelin into empty swimming pools and taking flight. It was magic.
I seriously cannot think of another group in history who has this many good songs. Almost every song is an artistic masterpiece and it really is unbelievable how deep and connected and diverse their music is. There is no one else who has ever been this amazing
I'd put Steeleye Span up there but...!
@@Roadent1241was just going to say that
@@walrusassociation9317 Interesting, do I assume you're my parents age or do I assume you have parents or mine's age who played the stuff every car ride too? XD
When I introduced my son to Zeppelin’s first album he thought it was a greatest hits album.
@@Roadent1241 my dad loves it he introduced me when I was a toddler, and I forgot about it for a while and got caught up in rap music, but I got sick of it, and realized rap music is all trash made but losers with no talent, and this is worlds better
A return to my teenage years. Zeppelin and Floyd and Aerosmith, Sabbath, Skynyrd, Dire Straights, Eagles, CCR, Boston, Bad Company, Nugent... So many more. Just the greatest decade of music ever.
I think most of us are still listening to these groups whose music never grows old. When music was music.
Me too...me too
Agree love Black sabbath, Bad company, Led Zeppelin, Pink floyd,Deep purple 💜
The Late Sandy Denny was the ONLY person to ever sing along with The Led and it is this tune that holds that Cliff Note Of Vintage Zeppelin Lore!
THE MIGHTY LED ZEPPELIN.
THE ONE AND ONLY
GREATEST. OF ALL ROCK TO ME.
NO ONE IS EVEN CLOSE .
Was introduced to this music by my brothers. I was into country at the time, but, Led Zeppelin resonated with my soul heart at a time I needed it.

First heard Led Zeppelin in 1969 and still listen to them today!
It sits perfect between Rock 'n Roll and Stairway to Heaven.
Side A of that album remains iconic in memories of my youth. It is quite possibly the best album side ever produced: Black Dog, Rock n Roll, the Battle of Evermore and ... oh yeah, that Stairway song.
I saw them in 1975, still my favorite concert and band of all time. There’s nothing to compare.
GREAT SONG FROM THE BEST BAND EVER!!!!!
This work of art has moved me to tears for almost half a century. I love it so much I want to play it at my funeral.
There will never again be a band of such might and prowess
I'm 48 and I've been loving Led Zeppelin since I was 14. It's been 34 years Since I've Been Loving You. Best effing rock band ever!
Battle of Evermore a timeless masterpiece. One of Led Zeppelins greatest songs
I may have already listened to this song 10,000 times. I can't even begin to describe the emotions I feel when I listen to this song.
A really F... good song...
THE GREATEST BAND EVER HANDS DOWN !!❤😊
This song put led in my pencil.
Can't get enough of this song ❤️❤️
Can't get enough of this band
Knighthood and majesty.
🤪
Sandy..such a bright spark extinguished too young..but what a legacy
I love Sandy Denny’s voice- so beautiful!
The incomparable Sandy Denny and Robert Plant. Still sends shivers down my spine.
The best from THE BEST
😎
To Led Zeppelin, Thank you for sharing your music with us. CANT GET ENOUGH !!!!!! Love it.
Same
I hope heaven is an eternity with Led Zeppelin.
Just saw RP perform this with Allison Krause and it is truly beautiful.
But what is it the sigil
@@magnetmountain33 Sigil?
@@jamesbond4633 It’s a Makita map thing but you could say it’s been sigilized 😂
It’s the thing all compasses .2 but you have to look at the old maps to find it just think if some initiated thinkers are correct and the above is the reflection of below but the reflection of a much bigger below the whole place does look like the Potters ground doesn’t it? It would certainly make sense of the Emerald tablets and the description of the sinking of Atlantis perhaps even explaining the 40 years travelling through the desert to reach the promised land and discovering only the northern areas inhabited at that time depending on which timeline you’re looking at and whether or not it’s in any way similar to the tales of ancient Ireland and the root race theories Which I guess would mean some came from below or underneath and some came from beyond but not from space As most understand it it would also explain the ancient contact and more recent contact from beings that claim to be galactic entities who have come from the stars which of course would be a secondary reflection of the real creators or pots could this explain the plane of jars ??
So many astrological features projected above us in the stars that are also closer have been emulated in ancient sites some of which like Stonehenge totally rebuilt in the 1900s and how many times before ancient cataclysms any advanced race would consider either going elsewhere or living on the ground you’ve Gotta hand it to them if they made all of this up Since the last major cataclysm and hind this false history releasing it back out into the world the whole thing could be complete cobblers and we might still be in the same world system chasing a truth that has been agreed upon as Napoleon said if he ever existed??? Bloody hell I preferred monopoly😂
Can we all agree that Zeppelin is one of the best heavy rock bands of all time?
An uncle of mine played this song for me one day when I was still in high school.
This song is so good, I'll never forget that day.
I had the honor to see this with my ole Da, for the original second performance with Robert and Sandy harmonizing, it was definitely a one of a kind treat for my seven year old mind contact high and blistered out of my done,
My favorite of all Zeppelin songs. RIP Sandy Denny
This is the only version of this legendary song i love ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Born in 60. Started with the Beatles. Led Zeppelin finished it off for me.
I grew up loving this music my children in there twenties are still loving it ! Proof in the pudding as they say !!!
Sandy Denny fits so lovely here. Led Zep fans who have never heard any Fairport Convention should give them a listen. For a similar vibe to this one I recommend Tam Lin, from the album Liege and Lief, which basically invented folk rock.
Also need to hear Sandy Denny in the band Fotheringay...
Another incredible band...!!
@@KevinWeilacherthe song Fotheringay is hauntingly beautiful
The greatest band to have ever walked Gods earth.
Yet another LZ masterpiece. Only the Beatles and the Stones come close to the supreme excellence of LZ, the greatest rock band of all time.
Probably true, but I remember back around 1982, a certain debate in my homeroom at Abington High School (Abington, PA, USA) about who was actually better Lynyrd Skynyrd or Zeppelin. 😊😊😊
A song never played or mentioned is the most beautiful of them all !
Timeless can't stop listening to them.59 years old the music is forever.Best ever.
If not the best song of all time ? Must be close timeless !!!
When I was younger I thought this song was overplayed and it didn't interest me as much as their other songs...
Now many decades in, I realize this really is a masterpiece
It's a magic song.
It's all about magic. Real magic. Creating something from nothing. 💯✌️😎
It's up there with my favourites
Just about every Zepp song is the best song ever written.
This track spooks me the same way it did in the 70s. Sheer brilliance.
Along a place where time has forgotten laid a field of opportunity only for the heavens above could bless 🎉🎉in a valley beyond.❤
In my personal opinion it was the greatest era of all time, there has not been a better era.
@@kvmalley Yes it was the greatest era of all time and no your right this is it there will never be another one. People these days don't know how to write good, excellent music.
