Yooo I remember doing this like 2 years ago on accident with a drum and piano track when I started making beats. Back in like September or October 2019 lol I love this trick! I don’t use it much but it’s still a cool thing to try!

What normally happens for me is, I make a bass line using whatever happened to be in the GarageBand song at the time - so it might be in say the Moog Model 15 using ‘meat & potatoes’ bass - then I think ‘now let’s try that in an old-fashioned bass, the upright’ only to be confronted with this irritating issue. Or, I start out on say on the old bass, then want to go the other way, to try some more resonant sounds in a synth, which also gets blocked. I found you could use the ‘alchemy-keyboards-other’ sounds and use the upright bass there, which is the self-same instrument as you can get to through the bass-autoplay method, but minus the ‘autoplay’ features. Anyway, I did try some stuff, but not this exact hack. I don’t care if it’s awkward, I couldn’t make music on Macs or on a PC, it’s too complex and expensive. So a hack will do fine. It just has to be possible, not pretty. Thanks again and keep well. [PS totally off-topic: just got my COVID booster here in the UK, although I got Astra Zeneca before as the ‘main’ two shots, they gave me Pfizer for a booster. I barely had said ‘good morning’ to the two healthcare ladies, and it was administered already. I know there are unknowns, but I cannot even remember Rubella, and I was born in 1963, that’s how effective most vaccines are (we got a triple-vax in the UK known as MMR - Measles, Mumps and Rubella, and MMR all but eradicated the worst effects of these. there was a Doctor Andrew Wakefield who told lies about them being dangerous, he eventually got struck off, but he did a lot of damage to confidence in the ten years it took to take away his Medical Licence).].
I used this trick the other day with the new brush drummers, and found out that the stroking brush part was on 3 separate notes that you normally can’t access in the piano roll, but it might be possible to access from an external midi keyboard, but I have not tested that yet.
It looks like they’ve patched this in the latest update. It worked for me a couple of weeks ago but now it only pastes the mic track. Any other workarounds for it? I’ve got a whole 5 minute track I want to move to a new instrument and don’t fancy playing it all again.

It’s a much nicer way to visualise the intervals when it’s set out on a keyboard as opposed to just the fingerboard
Right? So handy. Just don’t know why they don’t allow us to just do this by copying and pasting in the same project? 🤔

Copying strings to keys (or vice versa), is the same process for copying bass, guitar & world instruments (Pipa, Erhu, Koto & Guzeng) to keys

I’ve been trying to replicate it lately too and can’t quite get it working. I’ll definitely share if I can get it happening.
@@PeteJohnsMusic I managed it once, and got what I needed, but oddly, that was after doing the exact same process about 7 or 8 times.
Pete when I paste my keyboard track it moves my strings down and boom I get three tracks. What can do with that?

There can. It will just paste on as many tracks as you copy so you just need to set up the “receiving” project carefully.
