This one is @$65 in Florida . I think it’s time to buy it. I was eyeing an online bottle Glen Garioch 17. But that one will cost me @$140. So I think my mind is made up. There is the 18, however that one is not on the cheap side compared to this 15. There is also the Glenfarclas 15 which for some reason for years has fallen to the wayside with reviewers.
This Speyburn 15 is a great sleeper whisky IMO. The 18 is really good too, but the value prop on the 15 is hard to beat! I don't rate the Glenfarclas 15 (or really many Glenfarclas for that matter) I dare say they are cheaper for a reason. The GF 15 is the pick of the core lineup, but there are much better sherried whiskies out there with a stronger sherry influence that is more to my liking.
@@McIntyresMalts I am about to make my “Big” purchase of the year. I have a $475 budget. It will be Ledaig 18, & Ancnoc 24. Since I’m hesitant to dish out similar money for overpriced Talisker 18 or the overpriced and at times inconsistent Bunna 18. I’m rounding it off either with Speyburn 15 or the Ancnoc 18 or the Glen Garioch 17. The last three is where I either go over my budget or just make it. Any suggestions?
In my area of the US, the Speyburn 15 was so under the radar that the shop I frequent the most marked down the price to $40 dollars American. I walked out of there with 4 bottles. Now I have to hoard it because they aren't replacing them with newer bottles.
@@McIntyresMaltsidk about $40. But I have seen it for $65. Either way cheap for a 15yr old during these bad times. I wonder if this is as good or better than Benromach 15?
@@SaltyCuban It's hard to compare it to the Benromach 15 as they have 2 different flavour profiles with the Benromach being peated. I like them both with a slight leaning towards the Speyburn.
Yeah it's bizarre, there are definitely worse whiskies available here! I grabbed the 15 and the when I saw them, and have only seen the 18 since. Hopefully the distributors bring in more of the 15 soon. Thanks for checking this one out Clint!
Greetings from germany here. I really love the speyburn 18. i think its worth the price to the 15. I am not sure how much more expensive it is in your market though. In germany you can get the 15 for aroud 55€ to 60€ and the speyburn 18 around 75€ to 85€.
Oh yeah thats a big difference then there for you. Not so sure if it's worth the difference then. For me the 15 and 18 have a lot in common, just the 18 is sweeter and darker and has a honeywax element to it. If you have it, would love to see your take on the 18.@@McIntyresMalts
Thanks for the video bud! Very interested to try this bottle. Also difficult to find in South Africa, only one store currently has stock and its priced at R1500 ($120 AUD) which seems to be a good deal but I can get Glenallachie 15 for the same price. Will have to make a difficult decision then🙉 Keep up the awesome video’s!!!
Tough call when they are the same price! In my market it's a difference of $50 between those two, but if they were both the same price I'd probably take the Glenallachie 15
Hey Wade! Great review. Me again. You’re probably getting tired of hearing from me 🤣 I live in South Africa and can get the Speyburn 15 for R1400 and the glenallachie 15 for R1600. Which of the two would you choose?
Hey Kayla! Never tired of hearing from you 😊 This is a tough one! I saw your suggestion to do a comparison on Alan the whisky friend's video and now I know why! Those are both very good prices compared to my market! If you like a sherried profile both of those will probably be to your liking. In my market the Speyburn 15 is very hard to find so based on that I would probably chose it, but I love them both. Hope this helps 🥃
It does help! Thanks Wade. This whiskey hobby is quite dangerous, there’s so many good ones out there and I just want to collect them all! Thanks for always getting back to me. I look forward to your comparison review, I think that’ll be a fun one to watch. 🥃
A really positive review. I have to admit Speyburn have been on my backburner for a while but this has convinced me to give it a go. Just over £60 in the U.K and considering the offer I think that price very fair in today's crazy market. I've always loved the middle age whiskies (14-17 years). They're often as good as an 18 year old which due to tradition has to cost more. Cheers Wade. WT
Thanks Welsh! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. It definitely stacks up well against its competitors in the Australian market and is better priced than the usual suspects, I just wish it was more readily available. 🥃🥃
Yeah its a good one especially on sale for 75 Aud I got lucky and Dans had it on special awhile ago and I was pleasantly surprised it may have been the last of the batch for Dans. The nose is green and dark orchard fruits, vanilla and creamy butterscotch and the palate is similar with some decent mouth feel and viscosity. I rate this dram your getting a decent age statement a decent abv and no chill filtering. Sometimes its best to let the American oak do its work and sprinkle in some sherry to add some complexity and I think this dram has nailed that. Glen Scotia double cask does this well for a similar profile. Cheers mate enjoy!!!
@@McIntyresMalts Yeah maybe close to a year ago I poured a dram while watching your review there's about a quarter left in the bottle. I've found some great bargains like Glen Scotia Victoriana for 75 on sale as well. Once again about a year ago when whisky wasn't doubling in price in some cases....
Nice one Wade! I have not had this one but I am bit apprehensive on how much sherry forward it is. I have bought the Speyburn 10 travel retail edition, non-chill filtered and 46%abv for a stupidly cheap price to see if I like this distillery character. That whisky and this review might finally get me to the till for the 15 :) Cheers!
To be fair it's the first Speyburn I have tried so I don't have a reference point on the distillery profile, but as someone who likes sherried whisky I enjoy this one as there is a noticeable difference compared to the Glendronachs, Glenallachies, Macallans and Tamdhus I have tried, perhaps this is due to the distillery character. Let me know what you think of the Speyburn that isn't sherried!
Lost count how many bottles of this I've been through. Found this 4 years ago and was an instant fan. Have several stashed away as it's a great price ($59-69usd) but for how long? Cheers
Went through a bottle about a year ago. Very tasty and a lot going on. Picked up another bottle i havent opened yet for about $70 US. The 10 is a decent bargain dram (under $40 US by me) but its on the simple side. The 15 is a huge step up for sure.

@@sebastiancassinelli4191 ¡Ay, buena pregunta!
