    So Basically, When Nick Fury Assemble The Avenger as a Task Force (sentai) Based on Superheroes, He Assemble a Super Sentai?

    • @GeekCrashCourse

      Technically, you'd say that Fury's recruiting a Sentai team, as Super Sentai teams have giant robots. Maybe the Helicarrier has a transformation sequence we just haven't seen yet?

    Call me biased or what, but I grew up watching these Super Sentai shows in the original Japanese show / format, we all have different tastes, views and opinions, but the Saban adaptations starting from MMPR from 1993 up to their current series cannot be up to par to their original version and a plus factor from the Japanese series is that great majority of their opening themes are really catchy and gets stuck in your head.

    To add on about the Series Theme segment, one theme occurs every decade (at least with Kyoryuger & Ninninger) & every 3rd series with that theme, the other ones will come back (seen in Kyoryuger vs Go-Busters & Episode 4 of Ninninger)

    I always considered that there were at least two make up of a sentai team:
    1. red
    2. blue
    3. green
    4. yellow
    5. pink/white
    or
    1. red

    I actually saw some Super Sentai in 1980 and 1981, but I didn't know what it was for many years afterwards! I was in the Navy from 1976 to 1984 and I was in Japan many, many times. Since I wasn't a drinker and there were limited other things to do I watched a lot of Japanese TV that I couldn't understand! But there was some fun stuff. I was an early fan of Anime and Manga. I still have maybe 50 Comics I can't read. Unfortunately, the VHS tapes I brought back have long since had to be thrown away. I remember some of Dynaman, Sun Vulcan, and Monkey. I loved Monkey. He was not only using martial arts, but magic as well. I currently have 9 of the 12 available Super Sentai seasons, Zyuranger to Timeranger. Next will probably be Jetman or Hurricanranger!

    Dynaman. USA dubbed it as a parody in 1984.
    Funnily enough, Saban started developing "Phantoms," the show that would become Power Rangers just a few years later. I read somewhere that they shot something with Maskman or Jetman footage years before they adapted Zyuranger into Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, but haven't been able to find definitive proof of it anywhere.

    The channel that airs Sentai in Japan keeps a clock on the upper left of screen at all times. It's absent from DVD releases and the raw footage they use to make Power Rangers, but if you follow fansubbers weekly, you're stuck with that clock in the corner.

    Gosei literally means "protecting stars", not angels. "Hoshi" means star, but can also be used for planet, hence their team phrase "Hoshi wo mamoru wa tenshi no shimei", in which "Hoshi" means Earth. "Tenshi" is the word for angels. Also, the word "-ger", means a certain person or group. For example, "Gokaiger" means a heroic person or heroic people.

  • @mattwo7
    @mattwo7 12 років тому

    Themes tend to be in the names.
    Ninja Sentai Kakuranger,
    Samurai Sentai Shinkenger,
    etc.

  • @GeekCrashCourse
    @GeekCrashCourse  11 років тому

    Yes and no. Tonally, Kyoryuger's vaguely similar. The team has a similarly oddball cast of characters. It'a kid-friendly, but occasional has dark stuff too. The robots in Kyoryuger don't talk, though it's implied that they have personalities.
    I would say that a major difference is the execution of fights (human-scale and mecha). Better choreography for both. Same issue of overly feeling like a toy commercial sometimes though. The "Engine Cells" and "Beast Batteries" do operate similarly.

    As for Kyoryuger, I'm way more of a fan than I expected to be. Seems like a relatively unpopular edition, which I don't really understand. Feels like, lately, a chunk of modern toku fandom hates fun, which is sad. -Michael

    My first full episodes were Boukenger. I'd been aware that Power Rangers originated back in Japan since Megaranger, but I found TV-Nihon around the time that Boukenger was going on and dove in.

  • @StevenUlyssesPerhero
    @StevenUlyssesPerhero 12 років тому

    @4Taros Not quite. Goseijaa means planet protect. Go means five and sei means star, so "Gosei" = "Five Star." Gosei Sentai Dairanger incorporated this into their role call, "Shining in the Heavens are five stars! Gosei Sentai, DAIRANGER!"

  • @ChilltownRobot
    @ChilltownRobot 11 років тому

    actually since hunter often went after GEAR as well as the Bioman team he was closer to an anti hero then a villain

  • @mattwo7
    @mattwo7 12 років тому

    Actually in addition to missing the theme to Zyuranger (an easy mistake to make, but Pteradactls, Mammoths. and Sabertooth Tigers are not dinosaurs, thus only Red and Blue even have dinosaurs), but Megaranger is actually themed around electronic devices, hence "Denji Sentai" Megaranger. At least as far as motifs go. But strictly speaking if Zyuranger did feature actual dinosaurs with non-dinosaurs, then it still is not a dinosaur theme as much as it is an ancient beast theme. "Zyu" is tricky...

    Super Sentai and Power Rangers are two different shows. People need to get that straight and quit comparing the two. Of course PR is based off SS. But I'm so sick of the, “Power Rangers sucks because it's not the Japanese one." I fell in love with the franchise as Power Rangers. Not some Japanese storyline with subtitles.

    • @dragonmasterknight7
      @dragonmasterknight7 9 років тому +13

      Deal with it bro.PR will never own up to the original.Sentai always has more than enough promise to outbeat,outclass,and outqualify shit rangers anyday.

    • @a7xtherevrend
      @a7xtherevrend 9 років тому +1

      dragonmasterknight7 You don't get it. Power Rangers isn't suppose to "live up" to Super Sentai. I watch both. But if you want to shit on PR because everyone else does then so be it. It's just funny how people argue with it "sucks". Do you think Saban has full creative control? Nope. Toei has full control on how the shows are edited, casted and directions. Be mad at them but they won't care. They made over 1 billion dollars off PR merch and TV last year. It's just a show that sucks, right?

    You can't get the entire franchise from start to finish unless you know Japanese and can pay a lot of money for DVDs. In terms of fansubs, there are a LOT of subbers and series out there. A quick Google of "Sentai subbed" will get you some solid start points.

    That's why I don't think there is a distinct pattern. Sometimes Pink has been known to be a leader or even aggressive while Yellow was more of the softer one in term of females playing as pink and yellow.
    Sometimes blue and black switch personalities and I remember in Goseiger, red was soft.

  • @GeekCrashCourse

    Indeed! The Japanese Spider-Man series (complete with the amazing Leopardon) came before Battle Fever J (the third Super Sentai) had their giant robot. BFJ was a part of the same deal between Marvel and Toei (which I'm in the early stages of researching an article about).
    That said, Kamen Rider was developed about seven years before the Japanese Spider-Man show, so "original Kamen Rider"'s a bit of a misnomer.

    Sorry to butt in. Well, not really...
    I've actually been thinking for a while that Go-Onger and Kyoryuger are reasonably similar. Both are a strange mixture of goofy and deathly serious. This even comes through with the villains, how they're often used comically, but can still pose a major threat. They're both fun action-adventure romps, though I'd say Go-Onger leans to the adventure side (at least, comparatively), while Kyoryuger is definitely on the action side.
