@@markzambelli I liked J. Joy's suggestion to sand blast. I suppose I used the word 'etch' a little generically. Before seeing their comment on sand blasting, I was thinking a grinder with a flap disk.
Honestly...in my head I was thinking...WHY?! Just...WHY?! But was intrigued and deep down I would totally be stoked to sit out there to have a beer, chat, and enjoy a sunset. It looks absolutely beautiful. Nice design!
you could have your own mountain too if you bought property where he's at. although, i doubt he'll be dancing on that glass in the summer. i lasted 6 years there and had to go.
This came out so beautiful! IDK, but men that are creative and like to build things from scratch and are not affraid to get their hands dirty are very appealing.
Must be the joys of living in a dusty, sandy desert climate. You can keep an air filter in use here in the Midwest for a year or two and it will barely look dirty at all. No joke, I just replaced mine and two relatives filters and they looked almost new!
Really love what you said about "experiences"... as a society we should be more focused on that over things. This was a cool build and enjoyed watching it start to finish.
If only this work of creativity somehow spoke of life and its meaning. Actually, it does. Some people have so much time on there hands...it...doesn't make me bitter? I think? 🙂
This feels like a destination art installation. Something that would make people want to visit so they can witness and Instagram from it/about it. Good work, Ben.
Ever seen Tron Legacy? Kevin Flynn’s house has the light up floor but also uses white Victorian furniture. Some components of the chairs and tables were transparent and behind the scenes footage reveals that they were acrylic with frosted ends, allowing the light to pass through and weave around the furniture. I don’t know how difficult that would be but i think the furniture should make use of the light from below.
Awesome project! Now you need to find a way to float a disco ball above the floor. Oh, and add lasers. And a fog machine, a sound system - and a hot tub!
i am bummed that you did not build this in your house like your other wonderful projects but on the other hand, I am impressed with your back yard! LOL. Nice build!
Disco in the desert! That is such a dope idea 😄 Would be great for a club or similar location, where people hang out after dark. Will the glass stones hold up to being walked on with sandy shoes all the time though? I would imagine, that they become rather scratched and dull after a while. Although that might not make them less pretty at night...just at daytime, maybe.
Is thermal expansion and contraction of the steel a concern which may damage the blocks? What about any risk of glass directly on the steel without a buffer?
My nephew is professional welder and fabricator and lifetime Mcguyver, I think he loved to have a lightup glass deck. But he'd use it as his personal dancefloor because he was born a dancing fool.
Very nice, I hope the thing lasts a long time for many people to find it. Individual experience is what we need more of, to discover ourselves and understand others better. Doubtless some old prospector will see it, and think, "run, aliens"!
Would this be functional for a gaming room? Main concern would be using an office chair on this surface, and whether it would roll smoothly while sitting.
I was going 100% : "What is this guy doing with some glass bricks in the middle of the desert, what purpose does it serve, it doesn't make any sense?", until you said " I value experiences". Congrats for your view and for sharing this project, sometimes we focus too much on tangible assets and forget to invest towards some unique experiences.
Awesome! Mostly Govee/Minger Led light strips are used for multicolor room setting up, and it's the first time to be used in this way. Since they are Dreamcolor smart led light, you can set up your own colors and different modes if you connect the lights to our free app called Govee Home! For anyone interested in led light strips, feel free to check out more videos on our channel or by searching Govee/Minger Led light strips on UA-cam or Google. You are going to love it!❤️❤️❤️
You could sandblast the blocks. They would diffuse the light and be a bit less slippery.
not rain is a desert
My thought would be to hit the underside, so you have the diffusion, but still keep the reflective top he likes.
James Humphrey who said anything about rain?

Rent out the platform to photographers for model shoots.
I second this idea
Agreed. The Instagram Influencers would be all over this.

This is just plain cool.
That is SUPER COOL!!!!!
It's really cool. I hope the reflection of the sun on the glass blocks won't kill the birds flying above it.

Oh ok, we are just going to skim over the fact this dude has his own mountain. Cool.
Respect from Egypt man
I’m thinking acrylic clear “ghost” chairs, very nice 👍😊
Yes!
THIS IS REALLY BEAUTIFUL
WOW!! TALK ABOUT "OUTSIDE THE GLASS BOX"!!! AMAZING!!! VERY COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It’s absolutely awesome ! It needs to be bigger !!!
Very cool use of glass blocks
Wow, stunning build! It’s not for everyone, but it doesn’t have to be. Really beautiful concept and the end result is gorgeous.
Wow! I'm constantly blown away by your creativity and unique designs
I normally don’t comment but this is sick
Another cool elegant design. Well done

I love the idea of a glass floor in the desert. It's beautiful, especially at night. Looks awesome. Well done!
That's kind of cool, how the ef you get a mountain? We're they selling for half price lol
Very pretty! Your own disco floor on a mountain!
So cool. I just love the effect. I’m currently redesigning my backyard and leaving a place for a future hot tub deck. This could be a perfect option!

So creative! I'm looking forward to the furniture ideas for this deck!
me too!
It'll need to have wide feet to not pierce the glass

Wow! Very cool. Important to see all the work that went into it. Pretty elaborate
If dirt become a problem between the plastic and glass try sanding the bottom of the glass tiles to create the diffuser effect
Absolutely so cool!! Just so cool!!!

thank you!
You actually did a lot of work. Great!!
Great project ... You don't need a reason when an experience is your goal. Very nice work!
Very cool project. Finally we learn why the rock hauler was created. Thanks! : )

Very cool and even better that its done in a place with no electricity.
Have you contemplated altering it to run of a standalone solar panel?
The final product is piece of art. I wish to sleep there in dark night watching the sky and stars
