- I talk a little in the bad weather what is the simple good f stop to use when starting out. f 11 is a good way to get a lot on focus in just one photo. Landscape Photography setting are quite simple, the more you get into it the more you will have to try new things. f8 - f11 is the best places to start.

I am planning lots
Paul your vlogs are always good and informative, and I always look forward to them coming out.
I do my best haha
Some great photos Paul, lovely reflections
Many thanks
Another excellent video Paul, don’t be too hard on yourself when things don’t plan out the way you want it. It keeps thing’s authentic when trying to revolve your work around harsh conditions. Keep sharing the ups and downs of your experiences 👌🏼
Absolutely thanks
Sat watching this while having a cold beer! Feels like I'm there mate. :) Cheers
Perfect! Thanks
Nice shots. Snow can make interesting photos. Place Fell in the Lakes during winter is nice when covered in snow.
Yes, thanks
Hi mate. Awesome set of shots. The reflections were superb.
Hey, thanks
What are you talking about Paul. I was another fabulous video with awesome photographs. I loved the ones of the boathouse the best. i also couldn't get over how many people were out there in the cold going for a walk.
It's crazy lol 😆
Some magical images Paul well worth the effort, was there in October its magical place.
It really is
Great video. The first images were brilliant.
many thankis
Nice shots, Paul. Find and visit new places for me.
Thanks, will do!
Great Video Paul, fab photo's
Many thanks
Nice photographs Paul good video too.
Many thanks
Fantastic reflection images of the mountains on the frozen Llyn Ogwen. Cŵm Idwal looked stunning in the snow. Thank you Paul for your perseverance in very difficult conditions in making this informative video. My preference would be more on the basics of photography and finding new locations next year. Thank you for all the videos this year, it’s much appreciated.
I'll be looking to do new places if it's possible
Another great video Paul.
Thanks
Great idea Paul, I'd love for you to make these vlogs you mentioned they would be great information for newbies like me
Noted! ill do my best.. are you a member of my FB group Landscape Vlogtography Adventures this is a good place for new folk to learn as well and ask question post photos
Enjoyed this pal i think its important to show when things to go 100% to plan those images of the reflections were stunning
They were not bad mate lol
Great video. Learn a lot from you and greatly appreciate you sharing your knowledge!
My pleasure!
Some fantastic images Paul, the snowy conditions look fantastic, love the reflections. We were there in October and walked upto the waterfall and devils kitchen, got some great shots but I'd love to go back in the snow 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Some really nice images. Make me wish for some snow.
You and me both!
A merry Christmas and a happy New year to you and Mrs C thank you for all your videos.
Happy holidays!
I really liked the images you got you did well under the weather you had .I look forward to your videos it is always good to brush up on camera skills . Merry Christmas and New year to you and mrs C .
Glad you enjoyed it many thanks
Really enjoyed your reflection shots Paul. I enjoy the variety of your videos and although I am a photographer of 50 odd years experience it is never a bad thing to revisit the basics and you always learn something from other photographers and their way of working.
Absolutely thank you 😊
Very similar weather right now here in finland. It's miserable but sometimes very photogenic.
Love to visit
I think it is called suffering for your art! Thanks. Best Wishes for the New Year.
Defo suffering haha
Got some cracking images in the end Paul! you should share on Facebook too.....
I will do I am away for few days
Stunning roadside images at Llyn Ogwen and I felt that the ice sculpture image at the waterfall by the bridge looked very organic and surreal. You can’t possibly be disappointed with that. Thanks for sharing Paul.
Glad you enjoyed it thanks
Please do a few videos on those topics you mentioned, love to learn more. Happy New year
I'll do my best 👌
Another great video Paul.
As a beginner to photography, the tutorial videos are invaluable to somebody like me. I inherited my first dslr earlier this year and still trying to figure out the camera, so the more direction on capturing images the better....thanks
Great to hear! I'll do my best
Great commitment in poor weather Paul,I applaud you for getting out there. The reflection shots were worth the effort I feel. Well done again.
They were amazing
Merry Christmas buddy thanks for the video
You to HNY thanks
Great effort and commitment getting out there mate. Loved it 👌
Thanks 👍
Love the locations, you always get to see a new view. Not so interested in the technic everyone done that already
Very true! Thanks
All of your tips would be good.
It's simple stuff really
I struggle with where to focus even when using f9 etc. look forward to more tutorials. Watching this New Year’s Eve so happy new year to you and Mrs C
Most people just focus around a third of the way into a shot, then usually everything will be more or less in focus. But it is not always necessary to have everything in sharp focus. If the foreground is slightly blurry it creates a more ‘artistic’ look and some photographers like that look.
More coming
HNY
I am going to explain this as well coming soon
The reflection images you took of a frozen Llyn Ogwen were amazing Paul. Living in North Wales I come to the Ogwen Valley several times a year and usually walk up to Cwm Idwal. Every time I have been there the place has been shrouded in clag and I have yet to get a really decent image so I know what you were going through up there. One day I will be there in conditions conducive to getting some amazing images. We can only keep trying. In reply to your comment regarding photography tips then the more the merrier. I have learnt so much from following your adventures. Hope you and Mrs C had a great Christmas and best wishes to you both for 2023 📷👏⛄⛄
Love the reflections amazing
Another great video Paul.
Shame it was chucking it down with rain.
I think you are a bit hard on yourself because you didn't get where you wanted to go to show us.
I think that you did well considering the ice that was underfoot, but you managed to get some stunning image's.
Look forward to seeing your next video.
I am but I like to please or impress lol
Stunning photos from the roadside. I wonder if the ideal f stop is different for full frame vs crop sensor. I usually work between f11 and f16 for landscape.
sure there are many things to think about but i used to use Canon 5Dmkiv and i felt f8-11 was arounf the best as a good starter, but there are a lot to think about moving forward
Blimey Paul, it looked cold out there.
Really liked the boathouse shot with ice and reflections as leading lines. If you focussed on the boathouse, that looked like above half way up in the final image, heard a lot about focussing 1/3 into image so I would definitely be interested in more landscape photography techniques going over focus points, f stops, use of histogram, metering settings, focus settings, focus stacking, exposure blending and the rest.
You and yours have a great New Year and here's to 2023
Ps. We have a motorhome and am always wary of driving it in those wintery conditions, do you use snow/winter tires?
I do t normal drive in this, but it's why I went because I know the roads
I would like to see more with camera settings for landscapes.
Ok will do
You can only shoot what the day provides you, and there's nothing wrong with any of your shots from this vlog. I've been in the 'avoid honeypots' camp for years as well as being in the 'explore a new environment rather than plan too far ahead' brigade. It works for me and often the places I shoot aren't far off the beaten track, just over a fence and behind the hedge. I just take the self-preservation a bit more seriously these days (who am I kidding ... I'm buzzard food eventually).
Taking less shots is possibly why I moved back to film, plus having film in the can is a little like having presents under the Christmas tree ... then you open them, hide the disappointment and tell everyone its really what you wanted 🤨
It was n ok day the ice was amazing
Defiantly was not a wash out!
Please do the guides, as someone that has learnt a lot from UA-cam there is never enough good guides to watch.
I will try
Hesitate to disagree but sometimes, as here, you do yourself an injustice on the images. Some (many perhaps) do not have the luxury of revisiting locations frequently to get ideal conditions. The skill, as in the video, is in achieving the best in the given circumstances
Well said, have you watched me for long I have made most of my videos about just that. I always make the best of the day and weather I have, but that said if I do ever go back I try again lol and again
@@paulcomptonpdphotography Wife and I have been enjoying the videos for several years (often early morning via TV so then unable to comment). Particularly welcome that with you it is about the photography with 'add on features'. Also that you give locations and especially useful What 3 Words.
i try to give and do as much as possible not always remember haha
