  • So there was a small bit of snow and some fog to play with, heading into the woodland alone. I was on a mission looking for a tree to photograph. I revisit a couple from the past to see if i can improve what i had last time. As always i give out Landscape Photography Tips and Hints for Composition, Setting to help Beginners.

An area I know just about every inch of Paul when I lived in Cheshire as I used to do a lot of walking and Bulkeley Hill and neighbouring Raw Head were always among my favourite's. Such a shame to see that a lot of the trees have been decimated though. Woodlands are never easy subjects to photograph but you managed some really nice images. One of your other subscribers mentioned a church? I guess that could be the one at nearby Harthill or most likely the one on the other side of the A534 at Bickerton that leads up to the ridge at Larkton Hill📷👏👏

Never let it be said that I don't learn something from you. Now, I knew that heat haze (yes, we do get heat haze in Scotland) softens distant objects in vista shots and of course atmospheric recession is the same process but I just hadn't clocked it with fog. Many a time I've walked towards the fog and it disappears, only for it to reappear when I've given up and walked away again. The simple answer is keep your distance and accept that a longer lens is going to give a shallower depth of focus; and change the relative perspective of objects in the shot (natural compression .... what's that). So now, with new found logic I can get those softer foggy shots; or was it all just Scotch Mist 😉

I wish we'd have trees with that much character. Here it is only ever greens and the forests are so well cared that all the trees look the same.

Hi Paul. The comparison photos at the end really showed the point. Glove lanyards are a nice tip. 👍 Whats the red thing wrapped on end of camera...a bluetooth or a shutter release or something?

Some great shots there Paul, I live near Epping forest and would love some fog but we never seem to get any in this area. I received the photography guide book from the prize draw so thank you very much for that much appreciated.

Enjoyed the video as usual Paul.
    I preferred the 6x4 image.
Image B, but you through in a curved ball and had to pick the last one.
Image C for the last image as i thought the composition was nicer.

If our going to look at the tree, you're going to go with B as if you follow up the tree and out on to it limbs the other two pictures take you away from the photo. The other two pictures don't really show you what your main goal was to capture.
