    My current scooter came with tires that are like a hybrid between road and off-road tires. They have all the benefits of road tires but are also pretty good off-road because of the raised treads it has but does not wear on street riding like off road tires do.

    I'm convinced people only like off-road tires because it makes the scooter sound cool, more like a motorcycle on the road.

    My first scooter had offroad tires and I loved the sound🤪. On my present scooter I always ran road tires and it was waaaaay different -> no noise, lot smoother, more efficient(maybe, couldn’t tell a difference efficiency wise), but now I have a flat tire and I purchased some offroad tires again! Just because the sound they make is soooooo cool 😎!!!

    Wonderful video sir, as always. My Zero 11X came with road tires and they performed surprisingly well off-road.
    If anyone wants to get the Zero 11X, heed my warning:
    Although the rims split, it is IMPOSIBLE to remove them the classic way like on the Zero 10X.
    You have two ways of removing them:
    1. Unplug the motor wire from the deck (must open the deck).
    2. Cut the wire and solder plug-and-play car connectors over which you apply thermo contractible insulation tape.
    I found the second one to be more efficient.
    Hope that helped someone. I nearly died changing the back tire after a puncture.
    Trust me, it took a whole new level of desperation to cut the motor cable on my brand new 3500 euros scooter. But it works, it's waterproof and it does not overheat so...thumbs up? :D

    • @garavonhoiwkenzoiber
      @garavonhoiwkenzoiber 4 роки тому +1

      Yeah the split rim being on the wrong side is bloody stupid. What kind of wire is it to the motor, how many inner wires? Just 2, positive and negative?

    On my Inokim Ox, I started with the 2.5 x 10 road tires, but in even slightly wet conditions, the scooter would often slide sideways. Hell, even in dry conditions, slow speed turns would sometimes cause it to slide.
    I switched over the 3.0 x 10 hybrid all-terrain tires, and not once did the scooter slide, even in very wet conditions. I always assumed that the studs were helping to keep it upright, and I even managed to recover from slides many times. These types of tires have very thick studs, but they're places close together so the overall pressure and wear is more evenly spread.
    Then, I got the Vsett 10+ which has 3.0 x 10 road tires fitted as standard. Despite the higher speeds and its desire to keep pulling, it feels much more stable. Evidently, the studs may not have had an effect on stability at all, and having the wider tire was what was keeping me upright more of the time.
    The main benefit I did find with hybrid all-terrain tires was puncture reduction. The road tires on the Inokim were notorious for punctures even when inflated properly and when using tube slime. It wasn't caused by pinching, but by debris. I've not had a puncture on the Vsett yet, but I've got some hybrid tires lined up just in case.
    Acceleration on hybrid tires is slower than road tires, and there's more vibration and slightly lower top speed, but maybe those trade-offs are worth it for puncture reduction.
    Full offroad tires aren't something I'd find a use for, but they're really not optimised for riding on tarmac. They'll certainly do the job, but less effectively than the other options.

    Glad I waited to comment. most people wouldn't have mentioned that off road tires wear and heat up and at high speeds have led to tire failure and injury. I would have recommended off road for off road and road for road. if needing to be on paved roads or trails then a SHORT distance is fine with off road tires. but the cost is also something to consider as well as strain on motors from the off road tire use on roads. Still a great video, what has been stated by you is infarct factual and can be proven, unlike some videos where people just tell us what the manufacture says and claims or use their own opinion as fact when they have no actual backing to what they say. This is why I subbed, You have provided factual information. Cheers mate!!!!!

So basically if you wear down the knows enough, you basically have a 9.5 inch tire? Or does the 10" represent the base of the knob to base of the knob? Hello, looking at purchasing my first scooter. I plan to use it on my horse farm and at horse shows to reduce the amount of walking. Don’t need speed, don’t need high end, don’t need long distance, but want to be able ride on paved driveways, grass and importantly gravel. Haven’t been able to find any information about scooters and gravel. Also need to be able to lift it into a truck so preferably under 70lbs. Any help you could give I would appreciate.

    I'd love to see a dualsport 60/40 tire for this. How long did the tire change take and would you attempt yourself with proper tools like a proper jig? @11:06 you switch scoots. Did you have the max mounted to the wolf's rack as your final mile PEV?

    • @GingerOnWheels
      @GingerOnWheels  4 роки тому +1

      I might try it myself someday if I ever move farther away from Rev Rides, but for now its worth the drive down there to not have to do it myself. The tire change took 2 guys a couple hours to do. I would also like to see a hybrid tire, I think that'd be the best of both worlds.

    • @GODISMYJUDGE
      @GODISMYJUDGE 4 роки тому

      @@GingerOnWheels I'm going to talk with my machinist friend and see if we can design a jig that would allow you to change the tire without disconnecting the cable. I'm not sure how much slack there is but maybe there is no way around that. Either way having a jig to rest the wheel in and using proper tools would be a major help maybe this is part of the reason the Wolf is $1000 less than the Thunder.

Thank you again, I own a D4+ with 740 miles on original offroad tires but I feel like NYC roads as bad as they may be do not do justice to offroad tires. I have significant experience on a crotch rocket and a dirt bike on the road. While the knobby tires don’t offer the dry traction of road tires, they are more consistent through various surfaces.
    So make a list of surfaces you may encounter on the scooter. The road tires are going to be a 10/10 on the road and lets say the off-road tires are an 8/10. Then we have wet leaves, gravel, mud, dirt, grass, all kinds of stuff. The road tires might fair well on some of these surfaces, but occasionally you will have next to zero traction. You will hardly ever encounter a situation where you gave close to zero traction on off road tires. They are more consistent through the various surfaces and you are probably less likely to fall with them. I feel like traction consistency is far more important than max road grip when it comes to something as dangerous as our scooters. I’ve only had my off-road tires on, and I love carving on pavement, but I don’t think I’m going to switch them and increase the chances of falling.

      Yea but also scooter offroad tires heat up fast! On pavement. And Hester to the point they get squishy. And feel unsafe. I I changed out my offroad tired with in 80 miles due to this problem. Turning feot horrible. 10×3 inch touvt street tires feel 10 times better to me. Especially at 40+ mph

    Hello Rickydabarber. I made prob the worst mistake a consumer could probably make. I really didnt do much research before buying my scooter. I bought the roadrunner D4.4.0. Im in N.Y.C. My commute is only one mile. These streets are so bad all i could think about was the double "c" suspension. So i almost had to settle with the 2.0 instead of the 4.0. But i was so happy when they lowered the price "sale" 400.00 off. So i was so happy that i was able to afford the 4.0 instead of the 2.0. So i ordered. Im very happy with it. Ive read its the same shell as the nanrobot D4 3.0. But im not sure if every detail is the same for example sinewave controller. Not sure if nanorobot has that too. Anyways what would happen if i purchase rs5 1200 watt motors or switch the battery to a more powerful battery. Would i get more speed ive only got it to 37mph. And do u think if i buy road tires them italian ones, do u think i could squeeze out a little more speed. Maybe 3 mph. Or is that too much to ask for? From tire change. Thanks for u and your videos im learning a lot now.

    Excellent video master, my question about road and all-terrain tires... do you think there is a possibility that all-terrain tires slow down a little... because they have less grip on the pavement? I don't know if I explain myself...? For example... is it possible that my scooter with all-terrain tires can deliver a maximum speed of 50mph while with road tires it can reach up to about 55mph?

    • @GingerOnWheels
      @GingerOnWheels  Рік тому

      Absolutely. Off-road tires do slow down your ride a bit. In my experience they can shave up to 5mph off top speed, and also negatively impact range. Hybrid tires are my favorite right now.

      You want to replace the street tires as soon as the rubber starts looking dry and cracked and has worn a significant portion of the tread down. I don't recommend driving with zero tread. Change before that.

    Great video...thank you. My scooter came with 11" 90/65-6.5 knobby tires but I ride 95% on the road so makes no sense for me to use off road tires. So bought a set of street tires to replace. I did notice knobbys are not too stable on hard cornering like it will slip from under me. I am not into speed but able to go 30-40mph. You and others mentioned replacement is very difficult however these were on 10X and Wolf. I plan to replace myself and wondering if the difficulty is specific to the type of set up on those scooters or to all knobby's. I am assuming street tires are easier to remove and install. BTW did I hear right...your scooter is 300lbs. I thought my scooter at 117lbs was outrageously heavy lol
