If you are paying to have it done, that would be the cost for book time. It pays the tech 4.5, but they can get it done in about 2 hours. You are paying for the speed and the professional job. You shouldn't try and pay someone less because they are good at what they do. If you take it to a private shop or a dealer, they should charge 4.5 hours. A whining type noise or might sound like car with a super charger.
How long did it took?
1 hour after you have done it a few times. I would expect it to take you like 3 hrs if you have never done it before.
