- A car train from BMW Rosslyn,Pretoria passing through Pretoria North station en route to Durban. Led by two class 44GE locomotives. April 16,2024.
The same car train with four class 18Es in the lead is seen by Jaco Marais at Balgowan station,KZN,on its way back to Pretoria from Durban. April 20th, 2024.

When the engine is running at low speed or when the locomotives have been standing still idling, part of the engine will switch off to conserve fuel. That's when they begin making that thumping sound. That sound is the cylinders
Hi thanks so where do they change over to the electric Locomotives
They normally change locomotives at Pyramid South,about 20 minutes away from Pretoria North station.
