I used to board a train to Limpopo in the late 90's. This just reminds me of the couplings that I used to enjoy when it changes locos in Pietersburg, changing from electric to diesels, what a memory. Thanks Marval
wow Marval i watch this again, such a interesting video, brings back good memories about working for the Railways, alot of things have change, like in the 1980s there was a Gaurd Van at the end of passenger and freight trains. Most trains was stil using vacuum brake system and not airbrakes like now, but this was a very good video Marval, i think You becoming one of the very fine Railway videomakers here in South Africa!
Thank you very much Theo, you're far too kind. I don't think my videos are that great but I really enjoy making them. Trainspotting has become my number one hobby
Hi Marval Great video Do you know why the Blue Train was pulled by diesels when the electric units were in fact working Thank you for taking time at Pretoria station to bring us another amazing video
Thank you, cable theft in most parts of Gauteng results in some trains having to be powered by diesel locomotives. The diesel locomotives hauled the train from Germiston to Pretoria station a distance of about 70km
Thanks, the driver's name is Gert davel. They stopped cause of a red signal, as to why the signal was red I don't know. That particular signal normally is green like all the others when the Blue Train arrives.
If I came back to South Africa and applied for a job on the Blue Train, what chance would I have even with many years of international experience, and also as a white person?I am by far not a racist, but I believed Nelson Mandela when he said that South Africa was free to all whatever race.On the Blue Train, there is only non white crew, whatever happened to Mandela's legacy? It is such a shame that South Africa has chosen the route they are currently on......
Yes,you're right. The staff onboard the train these days are mostly people of colour ,I've only seen one or two whites.I see no problem with that whatsoever but it would be great if the staff was more diverse like how it was a few years ago.If you have the experience and the qualifications I don't see why they wouldn't accept you. No reason not to

Nice one as usual Marval! Do you know(name) who the class 34 engineer/driver was and why he stopped halfway into the station?
