    A recommendation from a ELECTRICIAN regarding the zip ties you want one zip tie around the cable and a second zip tie going through the first one and wrapping around the support it puts less pressure on the insulation and will make the cable last longer also the zip ties only need to be snug so the Copper in the wire can expand and shrink while charging. 🥓🚀

    refreshing to see a dirty tesla covered in Michigan slime mud. More realistic for most people than the pristine Teslas shown on other channels

      Big reason I started the channel 👍 the cars overall handle it well but I will say the tire design on this model X leads to often unbalanced muddy tires which gets old quickly.

    Never thought I'd see a jib crane (essentially) used for EV cable management.
    Unistrut and festoon cable clamps would probably work well too.
    This is a neat solution thought.

    Not very often I get to see one of your videos just minutes after it was posted! Nice install. I like that it can potentially stretch across the garage to charge another car if required, but still keep the cable out of the way.

    Rather than zip ties, maybe try Velcro. It looks nice but it's a very good solution. I don't know if it's $300 good. I don't like how the hinges swivel out when you put it folded up. They could tighten those up or give the option to add the tension. Great video though.

    Genuine and true to form, your Tesla is very dirty and garage not much cleaner. Clean that charging handle so your wife’s hands don’t transfer dirt to the baby. To avoid nicks on charger door, open with your finger instead of abusive charger handle. Try to be more respectful to this $100K+ EV.
    Chris, every DIY dad needs a ladder so stop using the unsafe chair. If you get injured, producing YT videos gets much harder.
    $250 with discount seems like the upper end I would pay for this device because there are other low cost solutions.

    Nice, but for about $20, two eye hooks and 1/6 dia metal cable with camps and some tie wraps did the trick for me. Okay I'm cheap! Screw the eye hooks into wall studs on each side of the garage at 7 feet high. Run cable across the garage attached through to the two eye hooks and use the cable clamps. Attached the charging cable to the metal cable using tie wraps. No more rolling and unrolling the charging cable between charging. No more tripping over the cable (happy wife). To keep cable end out of the way while the car is not in the garage I plastic dripped a piece of clothes hanger and tie wrapped it the the charging cable near the plug. I when hang the cable end on the metal cable. I have a couple Tesla owner friends who have copied the idea in their garages.

  • @jeremyc3871
    @jeremyc3871 Рік тому +3

    Looks like you could consider pulling into the garage vs backing in now, the arm looks long enough to reach across to run the cable over the car to easily plug in on the opposite side. You might need to move the arm further away from the charger to make sure it's clear of the doors when they open though. If it worked it would make getting in and out of the car easier.

I wonder if it is available worldwide and if they offer after sale services or waranty and how long it last. Is it available world wide. They could have discussed the advantages and disadvantages of the cable. The price of the cable and operation cost. But very informative and educational video for the person who is interested in the cable. All in all it is manly thing to do

    I dunno... For a few hundred more you could get another charger and have immediate access for each car. That's what we did. Granted, we had to have a small sub-panel installed but it works well for us. Plus, with Tesla's Gen 3 chargers, both cars can charge at once and the chargers load balance to make that work.

    Don't be an EV newbie, get a Tesla Wall Connector, they are only $425. Using a J1772 charging connector and adapter is far from ideal when a minority of EV's in the US use J1772 charge ports. The vast majority of EV's are Teslas and use the North American Charging Standard (NACS) so, unless you are a in China or Europe, it makes sense to install the Tesla Wall Connector because it's a much slicker charging experience with the handle storing parallel to the wall, not sticking out into the isle you walk in. If you buy one of the inferior EV's from other manufacturers you can always use an adapter on the Tesla Wall Connector.
    I'm not sure why you are concerned with charging speed, the Tesla Wall Connector puts out 240V at 48 amps. And the price is a real steal for the quality of the unit and it's features (like power sharing with a second Wall Connector). Your solution is far from ideal with the mess of wires and the newbie mistake of not hard-wiring the EVSE. NEMA 14-50 plugs work, but why? It's super clean and easy to hard-wire it.

    How far does this expand from the wall? I was hoping to be able to charge my 2nd tesla by having the cable, go over the first one (instead of on the floor behind it), that way I could pull the 1st one out of the garage without having to unplug the 2nd car and moving the cable out of the way, move the 1st car out of the garage, then plugging the 2nd back in, but this arm does not look like it will swing open far enough to totally clear the first car.
