      You can get big boxes or bags of baking soda at Walmart, costco. That's where I get mine. Also you dont have to use dawn dish soap. Generic is fine

    Great tips! Going to try this frozen citrus remnant hack. My stainless steel sink was really dull and dingy when I moved in, so I used "bar keepers friend" do polish it; really did a nice job. After that I used turtle-wax polish on it; lasts a long time if properly applied, and it is cheap. Shines like it is brand new. The wax also works well in the bathroom sinks after cleaning.
    I never set food directly in the sink; I always use a colander or bowl.

    I also used a wet fine sandpaper to remove all the scratches. I then used toothpaste as a fine abrasive to bring back the shine. Once done, it looked as good as new.

      :) This spring I had some grapefruit that I could not finish and I used those too. Also, I tried to clean my shower glass door with lemons (I saw a video on Facebook) and that worked pretty well too :) Here is a link so you can see how the lemon cleaned the hard water spots on my shower glass door: ua-cam.com/video/RUOLAKPaez8/v-deo.html . If you want to reduce the surface tension so water 'beads' off for awhile, rub the sink down generously with olive oil after it's clean and dried with a microfiber cloth. Then buff out the excess olive oil so it's not slipper/oily.

    Thank you, have just finished doing mine, but think it may need a second go, I let vinegar sit for 20 min then scrubbed with the baking soda till I got a good workout...lol, My sink has a little bit of shine to it than before I started but not enough for me to say I'm happy with it...

      Hello! I am not sure... Stainless steel shouldn’t rust... But white vinegar is also known to remove rust. I had to reupholster outdoor bar stools and the screws were all rusted. I soaked them overnight in a container with white vinegar, then brushed them with a toothbrush, rinsed with water and about 90% of the rust was gone.

    • @mclrose7
      @mclrose7 4 роки тому +1

      @@AnOldSchoolHome i thought it was weird, too; I scrubbed like mad with vinegar & baking soda & cleared about 1/2” wide of the rust. I’ll try soaking it w/ vinegared paper towel. Thanks.

      Hi! You do not have to do it all the time. I usually just wipe the sink with a cloth after I use it and only do this whole process about once every 5-6 months. If you have used Crocodile Cloth Cleaning Wipes you could have saved much more time! They'll also help you to clean grease and oily dirt easily and after the usage your sink will shine!

    How do you clean a really badly stained stone sink?

    • @AnOldSchoolHome
      @AnOldSchoolHome  4 роки тому

      Hello! You can try the Zip degreaser but make sure to read the instructions. We used it to clean some old oil spots on the garage floor. I also used it to clean the grout in the house. Or you can use a pressure steamer. I made a video about mine a few weeks ago. Now I use it for the grout so I don’t have to spray industrial chemicals.

    Does this work for rust too? Our kitchen sink is older and has a lot of hard water spots more than anything! But where the drains are especially the left side has decent rust around the drain!! The right doesn't have much at all for some reason. I've been trying to get rid of it for awhile now! I was told to use CLR and I haven't tried it yet, because two minutes doesn't seem long enough to get rid of rust in my opinion!

      Hello Megan, white vinegar does clean rust. You will have to submerge the rusted area in white vinegar and let it sit until the rust appears to be loosening up. Then use a metal brush to scrub the rust of but be careful not to scratch the sink. I used it in some garden tools that I left on the rain so I didn't have to be careful with the metal brush. Maybe try a very hard plastic brush or one of those green sponges that are very hard. So, vinegar does work on rust, just be careful when brushing off the rust. Thank you for watching Megan and I hope this helps! Best, Sasha

      Hello! I don't think regular vinegar would work. But you can try small amount just to see if it works.

    • @AnOldSchoolHome

      Hello Sami, I do the same with the tap if it gets dirty. But I usually wipe it every time after I use the sink, so it hardly ever gets as dirty as the sink. Best, Sasha

    Holy moly 1,000,000 views Sasha? In my dreams. Do you have any tips (besides great content) to get more than 300 views?

    • @AnOldSchoolHome
      @AnOldSchoolHome  6 років тому

      LucasGrowsBest LOL! I often wonder how UA-cam works 😁 I do optimize the description and tags very well. Before I post a video, I spent 30 minuets researching keywords in both Google and UA-cam. This particular video got a lot of traction from being in the suggested videos. I’ve gotten a bit lazy lately and you can tell by the view count on my last 7 or 8 videos.

      Ok thanks! I try to have long, descriptive descriptions and I add lots of ranking tags using Tubebuddy, with poor results. Thanks for the tips!😀

    • @AnOldSchoolHome
      @AnOldSchoolHome  6 років тому +1

      LucasGrowsBest I don’t have Tubebuddy; I just type in the search box and pick the popular ones. I’ll make a video about it on my other channel because a lot of people are asking me about that. I’ll let you know when I posted 😍
