Lefty here, just picked up the TDx. First game of league shot 245. As someone with slower ball speed (14-16) this thing is amazing. I can stay in this ball almost the whole night, at which point I switch to the fate. Love it.
There are so many strike ball videos out there. How about a spare ball video? Plastic, vs urethane, vs flattening out your wrist/release with your strike ball.
Hey Luke- I'm a 1 handed lefty w/thumb, 71 yrs old. Started bowling again after 25 years away. Ball speed is only 12-13 due to a rotator cuff problem. Currently have a Pitch Black and Phase 2. The P2 carries much better but I hit the pocket far more with the PB. Problem with the PB is lots of 7 pins and 5-6 or 5-6-10 leaves on light pocket hits. I'm looking at the TD, hoping to get the control of the PB and the carry of the P2- do you think the TD might be a good choice for me?
Yes actually, I was already thinking TD before I finished reading and saw you were thinking about it. I've been using mine a lot more recently now that I understand it a little better. I can just float it down the side in league and it looks great.
Looking forward to the 2023/24 league season. I am rebuilding my arsenal, started with a Pitch Black, then picked up a P2 and a Duo. Looking for a Hustle and possibly a Summit or Eternity PI to round out the bag/arsenal. I am a prt timer who mostly bowl local tournaments and league in a couple different houses, but I practice all over the place when my work/family schedule allows.
As a 2 handed bowler, I prefer the eternity pi much better than the summit (I have thrown both of these balls). The summit has way too much of a jerk off the end of the pattern for house shot. So unless you are planning on throwing the ball on a long pattern anytime soon, I personally recommend the eternity pi 😁👍
@amandabright432 thanks for the feedback. I agree. I should probably go with a strong assym solid or hybrid for the top of my bag. I have a while before rolling in any tournaments, so I can wait on getting a stronger ball for now. Because my league house tends to dry out fast, I picked up a Hustle M-M for my game 3, bottom of the bag ball. Rolled a 289 in game 3 the other day. 👍
As another lefty who has followed you for years, I’d appreciate a comparison between the TDX and the FATE. You love them both and I recently purchased the FATE and totally agree with you. Thanks in advance. Mickey
Really different balls, but pretty complimentary. If the TDX gets too early, the Fate is a great step down for some length and extra pop. They're very similar strength balls that like similar zones.
So I was already thinking of drilling a second p2 pin down because my pin up one has been to strong, but unfortunately the one I had cracked. From what you said here is it a safe bet to just get a TD instead of trying to force a pin down p2 to give me what I was looking for
The TD vs goat iQ! I was considering an iQ for lower in my bag but thinkin the TD might be a smidge better. Mostly shoot THS but at a few different houses
Actually going to make that video today! I think the TD IS going to end up being the better ball overall. The IQ is still great, but I just don't see anything the IQ does that the TD can't also do or just do better.
I'm a 1H lefty with a well balanced game with speed and rev rate. I want to upgrade my arsenal, I just drilled the GL Zen (5x2 3/4) and threw a 300 with it after resetting the cover in the same manner you do to yours. I have a P2 pin down that I've had for a very long time and just love it. I was all set to add the Xponet until I saw your reviews of the tour d x. Which one of these would give me more of a compliment to the P2 and what kind of layout ?
So congrats on the 300 first! If you want something that shapes like the P2, obviously from this video you'd want to go with the TD, however if you want something a little rollier and rounder, I'd go Xponent. I AM doing a TD vs X video in the next few days if you want to check that out before you make a decision.
This one I will be keeping surface on because it's a little too weak when it shines up, so yes, just hitting it with a pad by hand every so often will help, but before sport tournaments I'll put it on the resurfacing machine for a couple minutes to get a little deeper.
Man I was thinking about picking up a phaze 2 as a ball change ball for later in the night after my TDX but now I feel they are too similar to be worth having both in the bag. I saw symmetrical core and much higher diff and assumed this would have a way more different shape than it does. Guess I’m still looking
@@austinbelch1506 LOL right . . a ball down from the TDX is tricky because it's already so weak. A Hyped Pearl with like 20 games on it I think is the best option, it's going to be strong and jumpy until you get a solid handful of games on it, then it mellows out and gets really nice.
Interesting, I’ll look into that. Maybe I just need to learn how to throw stronger balls straighter. I have a fairly high rev rate but low ball speed so it’s hard for me to keep stronger balls on the right side of the lane consistently. I actually got the TDX as my first ball I personally own to use as a ball down from my dad’s old original ebonite “the one” pearl and ended up really liking it on fresh oil. Still learning, we will see where I go
Oh no, the TNT is muuuuch earlier and heavier rolling. There is a BIT of overlap, but the TNT has a stronger cover and a core that makes the ball slow down more, so it may not be a solid step up from the TD, but it's more than a half step up.
Evening sir, loved this video. I'm just getting back into the game after 14yr break. Where can I go to get info on the difference between asym/sym cores, the different cover stocks and how they relate, and what the layout dimensions mean/relate to ball movement?
So if you drop down into the description on this video, the first 3 videos I have linked are for Storm's pin buffer layout system, and they explain incredibly well, in depth, with pictures, 3D models, graphics, and slow motion shots everything you'd want to know about different cores and layouts. Then I have a series called "The Classroom" where I break down different cover formulas, types, etc., that will be very helpful to try and figure it all out.
Yeeep. Very very similar. There's tons of overlap between the TD, XPonent, IQ Tour, and Hyped Solid. I'm working on a TD vs X video, and if there's enough interest, I'll do a TD vs Hyped Solid video as well.
Actually the TD is weaker than the Fate unless you keep surface on it. On paper though, the Fate has a much stronger cover and a lot more flare, so at the same surface, the Fate will hook more.
Angel doesn't have a P2, so won't have a video to see, but it's a similar comparison, the XPonent just shapes a little different. It's a little rounder and more naturally continuous of a shot shape, closer to the IQ in terms of everything, just a little more pop, so the X is still a solid step to step and a half down from the P2. I'd put something like the Zen Gold Label in between the P2 and X
@@LukeRosdahl hi i did that it got back to life for a short period of time and it died again 🤣 how these companies make money u have to keep buying balls
I kinda feel like Roto has been making way more interesting balls than Storm has lately. Riding the coattails of the P2 and recycling cores and covers is a solid cash cow, but not terribly intriguing.
The problem for Storm is that when they DO make interesting stuff, nobody likes it. I thought the Parallax was great, new cover new core, nobody liked it. Pro Motion, one of the best balls they ever made, never caught on. The DNA now is incredibly good but I've heard absolutely ZERO about it. People only care when they make a new Hyroad or a new Phaze. They're a little trapped in their brand identity unfortunately.
This T-D is so so so very intriguing to me. I'm sorry Luke, I have a few questions if you've got the time: 1) How does the T-D compare to a PBR? I feel like the covers are quite similar, actually. 2) How does the T-D compare to the Xponent?
The PBR is actually stronger, and it's mostly due to the cover. It's a definite step up from the TD cover, but overall the TD kind of hangs out. The PBR is like a half step up from the TD. I WILL be doing a TD to X comparison in a few days though, the only real difference is in shape, the Xponent is a little rounder
@@LukeRosdahl - thanks so much for the feedback, dude. I really appreciate you taking the time. One final question, if I can. I have a 4.5" x 70* Hyped Solid and 3.5" x 30* PBR. What new solid in this realm would be best for deeper angles on the lane? Something like a 5" x 25* layout
I'm not sure about new, but the Reality has had this covered for a while. It's very good at getting traction, but still being somewhat clean and able to cover boards.
Well Jay it might just be way more ball than you need for the conditions you're on, could be burning up. The 500 rpms could actually be hurting the ball reaction if it's already too much. P2 has always been too much ball for me on the left, I could use it on the right, but usually lane shined and 5" pin down
@LukeRosdahl The thing is, it doesn't hardly move at all. I bought it as an in-between for my reality and fate. Regardless of if I throw it in the first game on the fresh, or if I throw it later in my night. It just chugs down lane. It'll look like it wants to enter the hook phase and start to change direction, but it will usually just keep rolling forward and never continue. It's hard to explain without a video, but I've been watching ball reviews for 5 years and have thrown a few of my teammates over the years. So I'm slightly familiar with how it "should react." Maybe it'll get better with some lane shine and more games on it, but I definitely feel something is up. I'm by no means a great bowler; 185 avg, and I never expect any ball out of the box to be great(except my fate, that ball can do no wrong). I guess the only thing is maybe the layout, I told my PSO to try a newer layout that I haven't used yet based on my most recent PaP changes. Does a redrill really affect the balls motion on a symmetrical ball? I've heard mixed feelings on redrilling and have only done it on two of my 16 balls, but both of those were Asyms. Pardon the long-winded response, I just really thought it was going to be one of those 'lightning in a bottle' balls like the fate or my old pro motion.
@@jaywhey8822 Yeah I'd have to have some more information, but that sounds like the layout isn't great or it's getting ready to hook and then just burns up because it's actually too strong and doing too much too early.
