This is my ultimate comfort film; it just makes me feel happy. And I genuinely love how much background humor there is in this film. There are so many bits that go completely unremarked upon by the characters that always make me laugh.
The 90s was a great era of modern retellings of classics. 10 Things I Hate About You was based on Taming of the Shrew. Lion King was Hamlet. Rent is La Boheme. Even Clueless is a modern retelling but i wont spoil the source for you.
You know the actress playing Bianca as Cynthia Cosgrove in Mad men. ;) Love your reactions guys. This is probably the movie I watched the most often in my life and appreciate people still bothering to check it out. Also it aged so well for a movie of that time
10 Things... and A Knight's Tale really put Heath Ledger on the map. The rest of this cast is outstanding as well, baby-faced Joseph Gordon Levitt is a win. Andrew Keegan(Joey) unfortunately fell down a rabbit hole - recently addressing rumors of starting a "cult" in the 2010's which he refers to as "kind of like a badge of honor". It takes all kinds I guess. Grosse Pointe Blank (1997) is a late 90's gem. John Cusack, Minnie Driver, Dan Aykroyd and Alan Arkin slay in that comedic film.
Stadium Highschool in Tacoma, Washington. The troll is under the Aurora Street Bridge in Seattle. The paintball scene is at Gas Works Park in Seattle as well :)
Someone posted a meme of Alison Janney's character in this movie and Alison Janney had no memory of her character and didn't recognize it. I found it relatable because who can remember everything about work?
Interesting. Your #1 is a cover of “Taming of the Shrew” and your #2 is a cover of Jane Austin’s “Emma” The high school is in Tacoma, Wa and it sits on Puget Sound.
I'm a Shakespeare fanatic and do enjoy a good film adaptation of his plays (Henry V with Kenneth Branagh is my favorite), but also get into the adaptations of his stories. And since Shakespeare "borrowed" most of his stories it's is fitting that his are "borrowed" - and, like you said, best when they are well done. I don't know if you've seen "Sleepless in Seattle," but there are several scenes that cater to guys who are not into rom-coms.
You missed the bloopers in the credits. The summer before this movie came out, my family and I saw a production of "The Taming of the Shrew" and when I read about "10 Things I Hate About You" being inspired by "The Taming of the Shrew," I figured why not? I fell so in love with Heath Ledger after this, it was such a shame when he died. In this and "A Knight's Tale" and even a bit in "The Dark Knight" he showed he had such a good grasp on comedy as well as drama.
Hi guys. Loved the reaction. Right before the pandemic, Julia Stiles was the protagonist of the TV show Riviera, a generic murder mystery/rich people are the worst/trying and failing to capture that The Night Manager mediterranean cool show that somehow got three seasons. I tried to watch it, got bored on episode 2.
@rhiahlMT Yep, actually pretty close to Stadium High School. Between the crabs, tides, seals, and occasional pod of orca, I feel ocean is accurate enough. That said, I will die on the hill that Pike Place Market is not Pikes/Pike's :P
@@VS-re1sr Well, I grew up on the Chesapeake Bay, I wouldn't call it ocean. I also lived in Olympia, WA for 12 years and wouldn't call it ocean either. Different habitats. I think people confuse Pike Place Market and Pike's Peak in Colorado, which I also lived near for a few years.
No, he didn't. It was a stupid story that got made up about him. He talked about it when he appeared on the Pod Meets World podcast. He's been best friends with Danielle FIshel since they were kids.
@@Beachie1981 thank god lol i remember him best as mary's love interest that had a kid in 7th heaven. how i can remember jimmy moon's name all these years later but can't think of his is weird lol but that's all i can picture him as when i see him in this movie i'm glad it's just a stupid story. and i'm glad he and danielle are friends.
I'll shelve that on the "maybe" column. It was a "community center" with the very culty name Full Circle, but the only thing they were actually in trouble for was selling kombucha without a license. It doesn't exist anymore and doesn't seem to have been anywhere near Scientology levels of evil.

No kidding, this was a MUCH better movie than I thought it would be.

Looms like we will be watching Clueless this week (it is leading our Patreon poll), so thank you for no spoilers!

I'm so upset that I didn't clock Cynthia Cosgrove!
I recommend While You Were Sleeping. Sandra Bullock is a Christmas Orphan, there’s a guy in a coma, classic romcom!
It was a great funny RomCom.
Bianca was Larisa Oleynik, who was also one of Joseph Gordon Levitt's main love interests in 3rd Rock from the Sun.
Yep, Alex Mack!
The Julia Stiles dance movie you were trying to remember was "Save the Last Dance"
Imagine being a 15 year old girl seeing this in the theater and Heath Ledger walks on screen lol I fell in love 😂❤
Yup, I was 14 and indeed he stole my heart as well.

Band scene on football field was my favorite

I've watched quite a few reactions to this movie, and you guys are the first to think so far ahead to say he should buy her a guitar with the money!
Just seemed like he REALLY owed her big.

like when anna kendrick completely blacked out the twilight films from her memory lol

Wife here. When Harry Met Sally a classic! I know us women ha. It is better than most of rom com movies. Just my opinion.

Watch "The Four Feathers" with him. It is a drama and I love him in it.
You should watch Down with Love as a wink to 60s romcoms.
You guys didn’t recognize Bianca as Ken’s Wife in Mad Men? 😂

The Puget Sound, not the ocean. 😊
Oops! :)
Close enough, in my opinion. The salt water bay is part of the Pacific Ocean.
@@VS-re1sr Lived near any of the larger bays/sounds?

Fall should always be Gilmore Girls time.
