How can you actually do good story telling and make really, strong and important points and do it in less than 22 minutes? I think it's pretty easy. You write characters who do things that no one on the planet would ever do, and then you make sure that none of the characters suffer any consequences for their irrational behavior, and you hide Catholicism underneath all of this nonsense. You pull plot points out of your tush, and you don't tell the audience until the last minute and that way, your audience thinks your show is unpredictable, because it's really hard to predict things that only a crazy person would do, like Eleanor turning herself in for murdering Janet when the only consequence for said murder was Janet got rebooted. Did she forgot that her goal was to stay in the good place? I get why me and Jason are here, but why is Chidi and Tahani here? That means she didn't figure out that she was in the bad place. Even with all that, the first two seasons were pretty good.

The issue of Terrences' transition is a perfect metaphor when you think about it. We are left with an unanswered questionl, did he die or not. Once I was talking religion with my dad and he was probably in his seventies at the time. He reminded me although we find religion even the bible, we are never given all the answers. Part of the creators plan is that we are not supposed to know the answer for every question. That we are not entitled to an answer to everyone of our questions. God does not owe us ever lasting life. He doesnt owe us anything at all.

No, Schmidt's actual move should have been to tell Jess in all seriousness that he does not think Cece is okay, and *Jess* should talk to her friend. That would have been perfectly acceptable, and would have had the same result. Of course, it wouldn't have been as funny. Love some Prank Sinatra dropping an angry badger on a wedding. I don't really blame Schmidt for hesitating between Cece and Elizabeth. Elizabeth is heavily implied to have been his first love, a very serious college girlfriend with one-that-got-away type vibes, mostly his fault. Against all expectations, she forgave him for his college (and recent!) mistakes and gave him another chance. She's great. She's fun and strong and supportive and low drama in a way Cece absolutely isn't. She likes him no matter what. She has never been ashamed of him. In fact, she loved him when he least loved himself. Contrast Cece, who kept him in the car like a dog, lied about their relationship for months, jerked him around, and always claims to hate herself a little when she's with him. He is absolutely in love with her, but he's been his most insecure when they're together. She doesn't make herself safe for him. BUT . . . she is everything he's wanted for maybe two years now. She was with him for a while when he had a broken whatsit, and that it ended then was HIS fault. She had been working on herself, on her willingness to be vulnerable and express emotional intimacy. And she just left someone at the altar for him. Hugely flattering. So what? Take the risk on Cece? Or be safe with Elizabeth? There's enormous appeal to both options. (I do think I'd bow out if I was Elizabeth, though. That she doesn't says SO MUCH about Elizabeth's beautiful self-confidence. But Schmidt's supermodel ex stops her wedding because she's still in love with him? Nope! Schmidt has got way too much going on right now. He needs to at least close the book on whatever's going on with her before I consider being his girlfriend again. Also, we JUST started dating again. Talking about love is a little premature, especially given how much this dude has hurt me in the past.) I love Season 2. One of my favorites. Lots of heartwarming stuff ahead, though.

Well said. I never really understood how Schmidt could get over Cece being engaged so fast, settle down with Elizabeth without much fear, and without her being a rebound... but the way you broke their relationship down makes so much sense. It makes me want to go re-watch their story line again lol

It's important to note that Will's treatment of the interns was *not* portrayed as a good thing. Danica McKellar calls him out on it and he (sort of) apologizes later. He goes through a bit of character growth in this episode. Also, that one intern was messing with him when she said she was a ballerina (though he'd be justified in wondering why a ballerina with no background even in *studying* government was chosen as a White House intern).

While Sopranos was certainly The West Wing rival at Emmy time, Sorkin and Co had another rival....Gilmore Girls! This was a rivalry born of dialogue heft per episode. Both shows notorious for having the most "pages per minute" on network tv. If I remember right, they averaged out at roughly a tie, and never dropped below 110 pages per episode, while typical network shows that filled a 60 minute time slot (roughly 43 mins plus commercials) had scripts in the 40-60 pages per minute range. Give Gilmore Girls a look, sirs. I think you'll be surprised and impressed!

Rose's character's just so well written, I love her so much, but she does absolutely remind me of my mother. The lack of empathy, the antiquated social views, the pride, the snobbishness, the avoidance of important conversations, the antiquated social views, the second nature lying to keep appearances, the selfishness, the passive aggressiveness, the coming from money but not having any of her own, the French, the list goes on. I find it hilarious tbh lol I enjoy it a lot 😂

Donna could have looked up who she was meeting with. As Josh told Stanley Keyworth, "In your wildest dreams did you imagine that I’d walk in this room without knowing exactly who you are and what you do?" She's been his traffic cop for 4 years now and has helped him prepare for meetings like that. I don't blame her for not doing it, but ideally she'll learn to rely on herself instead of just taking Josh's word at its face. I have a (fairly strong) theory this was deliberate, either on Josh's part or Sorkin's and possibly both.

Yeah, it does seem a little strange that they wouldn't know who he was (especially since the name "Ivan Perez" seems designed to be memorable). But, it's not like "Communist candidate for Governor of California" is his entire resume. He had an actual job, head of the California Agricultural Laborers Association, which they mention in the show and that sounds like the kind of job someone whom the Democrats would want on their side would have.

The problem with Sam’s election committee is that there are a few people that are trying to get ahead with the party. The “Robert Palmer girls” were just interns. And chances are they weren’t even part of the speech writing staff, they were probably the interns that no one wanted. And I loved your point about how every plan is great until the bullets start flying. That’s why the Army teaches you to keep the “plans” simple or make them just a list of things to attain and improvise the way to get there.

I recently discovered your channel BECAUSE of your reactions to The Good Place. I’m now watching you react to several series, and this has quickly become one of my favorite UA-cam channels🙂. I’m also watching you react to The Americans, and it seems everyone keeps telling you that The Americans stick the landing at the end of that series (and they do), BUT I’m of the opinion that The Good Place sticks their landing even better (even stickier?🤷🏼‍♀️) than The Americans. The Good Place is fantastic from start to finish, and is arguably one of the most geniusly written TV shows ever (apparently, I’m so giddy about it that I’m making up words like geniusly). It’s fun to watch you guess the trajectoriy of the show, and even more fun to see you enjoying the ride even if your guesses are way off. Don’t worry, I don’t know of one single person, myself included, who has come remotely close to predicting anything with TGP . And if there is such a person, then their lives must be miserable because the true delight of this show is to staying in the present moment of each episode as it takes you on an unpredictable journey. Completely unrelated, huge props for geniusly** editing this video to end abruptly whilst exclaiming “Derek!” 🤣👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 **I feel like it SHOULD be a real word.

I don't each cheesecake, and it's not because I'm lactose intolerant, even though I am. My intolerance is quite low, so I can have some dairy still. I don't eat cheesecake because I find it too bland. I prefer stronger flavors, and honestly I like cheese a lot less represented, and strawberries a lot more represented than they are in a cake or dessert in general, so I don't eat cheesecake

Rose's "Bitch, you're a teacher. How'd you think we afford all of this?" moment, and her stance in the entire scene with Abe and then when Midge came in and then left, was so adult-like. For a character who willfully chooses to live in a world of fortune tellers and "everyone's sick on Yom Kippur", that's probably her most grounded moment so far in the show
