This guy some of the gnarliest bass tones I’ve ever heard!
Guitarist too.
I love that this video was like 80% a bass rundown
Highly suspect is 80% bass tones!
"thanks for taking a minute johnny"
literally
"I like to use two amps!" quote of the day.
"Oh, its BIIIIG, Rich!" is a close 2nd lol
The 2019 "I like Turtles!"
I like the Wizard of OZ! I like the Tin man!....and yellow picks!!
@@carvinblack This comment had me dyyyyinnng! So accurate bahahaha
My Name is Human has such a simple baseline yet it's sooooo good
I love the bassist's finger picking techniques. Very unorthodox, but really helps him get the right kind of accent on each note.
I will watch any Rig Rundown that starts with bass.
Im having such a hard time determining the tempeture of that venue :)
Johnny wears that winter coat through the show too. Sometimes he even pulls the hood down.
I have been to four HS shows. Johnny always comes out in a puffy coat for some reason
@@djombock drugs...?
Hes probably dope sick and freezing. junkie ass bum
black ocean, cold and dark?
Finally John Bohlinger doing a rig run down!! John, you need to do more of these
Rich is so cool, very down to earth but also a guitar nerd
Napoleon Dynamite went to the gym and started playing bass.
Glad to hear the Stonewall reference. I had him build me a set with a Tele style bridge and a humbucker in the neck, and they are one of the most balanced pickup sets I have ever tried. Not to mention the sound; they are incredible!
What a couple of lovely gents! Another awesome interview/Rig Rundown, John!
These guys are from my hometown area. Remember them playin many nights at Joe’s bar in Otown
I go to the school they used to go to. Pretty cool to see them now!
More Bass Rigs!!! Also thank you for doing a rig rundown of these guys!
I LOVE RICH SO MUCH he's such a sweet guy
Wasn't expecting this rundown, but great one!
I’ve been waiting so long too see this
I built this guitar
So you built the body?
No i bought it
Did you build that neck?
No i bought it
A kit build is still a build. Just as a Partscaster is still a build. You have to walk before you can run.
that suspectocaster was SICK.
Ive never heard a bass driver. That is so sick.
8:29 7mm pick!!!!! :o
(he obviously meant 0.73mm)
No it's a bass pick, he probably meant 7mm, 0.73mm would barely pluck a string on a bass
@@MojoStrummer Look at the pick, it's definitely not 7mm thick.
Wicked bass tones
That 2 amp thing with a 3 piece is actually a really cool idea.
That’s the most dope bass and bass tone... I want to play bass now 🤟
I would call that guitar “Altered States”.
Catch Refused while they’re on tour, dying for a rig rundown!!
Bollinger is the best.. And he got the BASS too AWESOME
FWIW, it's not up the host to get bass or not, it's up to the band/artist/individual.
@@premierguitar Yeah BULLSHIT... Bollinger gets the details and does a good job. The other clowns look like they are always coked up and Nervous. Not that they are. But they look coked up and high.. Bollinger is the ONLY one you have that does a good job..
You should call the guitar, "The Suspect"
Kief Demon Maybe lowly suspect?
@@CrankUpTheAmps "Terribly Suspect".
ITS FINALLY HERE
I saw them live a few days before this video was published. Johnny was wearing that jacket...same time of year...it almost looks like this video was shot inside marathon music works in Nashville. Very similar iron work on the ceilings and the columns out on the floor. Cool.
@thatpedalshow , you're on the board!
highly is built on that bass sound
YES
name the white gtr "Hungry Shark". cutaways kinda look like shark fins aaaaaand ... its a prominent lyric.
BTW - loved this episode and the series. just subscribed
Loooove Rich. He makes it look so easy. I could never do that.
I have 2 super shifters and I absolutely will not ever give them up! haha
Use to own a deville until I sold it, now I see them everywhere and I totally regret getting rid of that amp
Its literally the workhorse of a touring band. Ive owned one for years. Its the best for pedals.
I would DEFINITELY buy that second guitar if he ever decided to produce and sell them.
I've made a few guitars. That's super rad that you're doing that. Necks are very hard to make. I have done a couple but I do like warmoth ones better
wana hear it? Turns on the pedal, kicks guitar lol. Love these guys.
Name for the guitar: “it’s a fender lead series but not”
Whoa
You can call the guitar... Highly Stratect. ;-) Awesome guitar!!!
Ooooooh oooooooooh
I used to get mad swamp ash as a waiter
Was this filmed at the Sylvee?
"SUS.SRAT TRANSFENDER"
Only just found this vid and am off to Auckland to see you finally. So happens I'm off to try out a Fender while I'm. Never been so inspired! How many millions to make one for me Rich???? Wouldn't I be the coolest solo acoustic female covers wedding singer ever hahahha!!!
Did this Space Odyssey gat get a name does anyone know? I'm interested x
"were gonna talk to johnny"
*still talking to rich*
Call it Lydia!!!
yah
We need a Breaking Benjamin rig rundown!
There are literally 26 Boss PS-5's on Reverb right now...
Yeah, and about 26 other pedals that do the same thing better-
@@markferguson3745 Which ones? I'm looking for a pedal similar to this.
@@alexanderhammes4284 EH pitchfork, Digitech Drop and Wammy
I was pretty sure he was using a Wammy when he did Lydia at the Grammys and I was wrong
Call it "The Shark".
this bass looks like a candy
You could grow potatoes on his pedalboard;
Star slacker. Guitar name
Call it the Billy
What Fender amp does Johnny use
I think it's a hot rod deluxe, but he used to use a bassman 4x10 tweed combo with the supro
I'm getting queezy just watching this video intro on my car stereo, and I'm a bass player! Damn...
JB for the win. of course the face tattoo guy has "stuff" .
That guitar should be called the “ozone”
Since they didn't list the tube brand, I am assuming he has Svetlana Russian tubes in it.
probably. these guys are dumb tho.
@@shimonbenloulou1778 oh yeah? Why’s that?
Did he call keeley "a new company"?!
Noah Tyson Highlonesome I think so, lol.
I'd call that guitar The Alpha.
Name it star drizzle😎
Name the guitar brand suspect!!!!!
Where is Tool???
The Chevette
name the guitar Lydia
thats johnny's ex lol
Guitar name : “Highly Guitars”
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Man that bass headstock...its like that one cousin you know from Chernobyl
This is the most awkward thing I've ever seen.
Love these guys so I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought this exact thing. lol
Should Call the guitar T.J. stank
@16:15 "Oh, that's an interesting look at it", John says as he clearly knows that that's complete bullsh*t. ;-P
Lol...I thought the same. So diplomatic of John.
Scatter wound pickups, wound by hand do produce more clarity.
"lowered distributed capacitance allows for more high end to come through while increasing clarity. It also increases the resonant peak and extends the frequency response (which is part and parcel of the clarity and dynamics). The pickup sounds more complex, more open and clear, and louder by the nature of these combined characteristics."
lmao at calling Keeley a "newer company." Yeah just a couple decades old...
Um. Der.
no
Call it.. The Supadopah
Lucky bass player. Got with the right singer. He's ok, uses a lot of effects. I'd like to hear him stripped down on a fender and one amp. Can he play that and be legit?
I can't make out the notes. Sometimes you need to hear a bass in context with the other instruments.
Guitar body looks like a pork chop
*Bass body
Those guitars sound pretty nice, but I have to objectively say ,- purely from a design perspective,-they look effed up, especially that god awful headstock.Don't want to discourage, so, - by all means,- keep trying.Fender definitely dosen't have anything to worry about there.
Same "secrets" as about 20,000 other guitarists.
John hates fuzz cause it sounds like farts. Watch the Greta van fleet PG. I think this guy changed his mind.🤘🎸🎼🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🇺🇸
People that hate fuzz(&I like JB's playing) just don't understand how to get the right sounds out of them. You can get the BEST clean tones using Ge Fuzzes, with the volume rolled off(for ex.).
Totally agree fuzz, verb, and delay.🤘🎸🎼🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🇺🇸
Mark Ferguson why would you want a clean sound from a fuzz?
@@graxjpg Saying that you can get unique, great cleans,- and drives, distortions ,AND fuzz,- this is what makes them THE best effect-
Mark Ferguson yes a good fuzz can sometimes not fuzz. The real trick, is to have all that AND have something that sits in the mix as opposed to dominating it.
That is the ugliest head stock I've ever seen! But I really like the rest of the bass especially the finish on the body! He, Rich, seems very nervous..... Is anyone else noticing that?
I love this series, but dang if it isn't a showcase for how terrible musicians can be with interviews.
Edit: Love Highly Suspect, love the artist.
He hardly uses anything now..
Its rappy and not good rap either..
Yeah, I miss the "Mr asylum" sound. Speaking of, have you any recommendations on similar artists to that album's sound?
@@Astral_Wave Cleopatrick is a big one if you've never listened to them. Also Dead Poet Society, Badflower's Temper EP, and Rival Sons.
Not impressed.
bass guy is awkward af
This is cringe. But great band.
Awesome. Now if only their latest album wasn't absolute trash haha. God that thing is so cringe.
Know of any artist with a similar sound to "Mr asylum"?
I love this band, but idk why, I find that bass player really annoying. Like he tries to tell the dude what he’s gonna show him before he even asks, then whenever he’s asked a question about something interesting, he’s just like “yeah...” and all the boring shit he goes pretty far into
Highly boring.
damn, that’s a horrible bass sound.
Good- it wasn't just me. That superfuzzybass stuff is just annoying.
doninwv you can pretty much play any note there and it won’t make a difference
The dude doing the interview needs to retire. He’s soooo bad. Premier guitar needs fresh new faces to move with the times.
