After months of battling thrips, I couldn’t completely resolve the issue and eventually had to part with all my houseplants. How have things been going with your new ones? I hope they’re thriving and pest-free! Did you take any special precautions after getting rid of the old plants and bringing in the new ones? Do you think there’s a chance these sneaky pests could still be hiding somewhere in your home? Also, how long did you wait before introducing new plants?
@khateretajfar8516 I'm sorry you're struggling with the same issue. I waited a few months before bringing new plants into the house. I haven't seen any thrips, but I have all new bugs!!! 🤦🏼♀️ I love bugs outside, but not in my home! To help prevent bugs and to help monitor the soil more, I've moved all my indoor plants to plastic pots with drainage and have been bottom watering. Thank you Lucia for making this. I generally do a monthly ‘pamper’ session for my plants, shower/SB plant Invigorator/neem, peppermint soap, peppermint oil spray but I got lazy and skipped a few months, on Tuesday as I was moving one of my Hoyas I noticed an adult thrips, just the one but we all know it just takes one 😳 I checked everything for the babies and more adults but couldn’t see anything but I’m not taking any chances. I’ve ordered the systemics by celeflor and they should arrive next week. In the meantime I’ve started going through all my plants (halfway through now) showering, using Provanto, SBPI followed by my neem/peppermint spray. I will get back to monthly maintenance (no more laziness) but am hoping the systemics will provide a safety buffer for me. I guess the thrips that I found got in through the window 😡 am so annoyed with myself.
Hey Lucia, muchas gracias y dankeschön for this video, I had watched this video last year when my whole house was infested by thrips. I bought the thing and it worked like MAGIC. It took just a few weeks and no single thrip survived.
Oh, my god. An when you say "the thing", are you refering to the systemic pesticide? My bf bought a very infested plant, despite my beggins of not doing so, because it was clearly under some infestation. This was three years ago and when they are not in one plant, they are on other or in everyone of them... It's exhausting... Does this ACTUALLY work then?
Neem oil soil drench w/ correct measurements will do the same as these spikes (soak up into the membrane and tissues of the plant when the insects feed it will kill them) Incase you don't want to use the spikes or you can't find them. Good video! Most videos on thrips take someone 10 minutes to get to the point of what they are what they do what their life cycle is and how to get rid of them.
@@juzzme3051 lol. I've always used neem oil... I don't have that problem. I use It indoors and outdoors. I have no idea what you're talking about... Neem oil is one of the safest organic pesticides you could use. Also works as a fungicide so I don't know where you're getting the mushroom thing from?
@@Gobeyondthebrochure I use neem oil when it's not needed. My plants are healthy, robust, full and they're massive. I also make my own soil. So I really sure what these two comments are about.
Most of the time the soil is the problem to begin with lol. Location and soil are what breeds problems with your plants. It's an invitation to pests, fungus and mold. I make my own medium. I always have. After years of buying moldy, mildewy and gnat infested bagged soil I put the kabash on that! I don't even use dirt.
I’m in Canada (and just began my thrips battle) and found a product called “End All” by Safers! It’s an insecticide spray that seems to target all stages of life. It needs to be sprayed weekly, but perhaps see if you can find it! I found it at Canadian Tire
@@shiftyy2786 tried it. End all is just another oil and soap mixture. It will kill the adults that gets hit by the spray but not the eggs or the larvae. It won't prevent them from mating. So in 2 weeks they will be back. So you'll be on a weekly spray cycle for years because you can never get everyone and they will mate lay eggs (which insecticidal soap does kill) the larvae will become adults and you'll end up spending a whole bunch of money and losing your mind.
Sometimes you can find someone who’s purchased some. I’ve gotten some bonide systemic and it is amazing!! I found Safers didn’t do a thing when it came to scale and thrips.
The solution ratios were not good for my plants, some got burned due to the neem oil even not exposed to the sun. 1.5 cups of water is too little so I would recommend 1tbsp (3-5ml) neem oil, 9ml soap, 3 drops of alcohol and 1L of water. I have been using these ratios and saw no more burns. Avoid sunlight after neem oil like the plague unless you clean the leaves off with only soap and water which also kills thrips on contact and didn't burn leaves :)
Great video! I’m curious, how and where do you dispose of the runoff water after you have put the spikes in the soil? I read the substance used is highly toxic to aquatic life and bees 😢 I want to get some but I a hesitant because of the effects…
I know how much my plants need so I never have the runoff water that I need to dispose of anyway (sometimes it's a bit much but it doesn't cause root rot or anything, so I just leave it in the pot)

You can use predatory nematodes. As with most biological control, it can take a number of weeks/applications before you see effect, but it is definitely better long term for people who do not want to use pesticides. Nematodes will need some amount of moisture in order to have multiple life cycles in the soil/on the plant to get the most for your money. You also have to continue spraying once a week until you no longer see any thrips (use sticky traps near the infested plants and change them out every time you spray to monitor population!). Even then, I would still consider spraying every other week. Plus, they’re microscopic, and without the moisture, they will die so you won’t see them roaming around your house. They are not parasitic or toxic to humans, so it is safe to use on your basil. Soapy water and oils can be a bit riskier as tender leaves tend to show signs of phytotoxicity (which is both aesthetically displeasing and damaging to the plant). Hello Lucia, there are definitely thrips on my plants for many years. Nothing helped. But I have also some similar insects on the earth and some live under the pots on the balcony for example. What do you mean, could they be also thrips or something different?? Thank you
If they don't look like little flies with wings, they could be collemboles! They like to live in moist soil, so if possible slighy less watering, and saucers with airflow ridges help. But they don't really do much harm to mature plants. They can eat roots of tiny seedlings sometimes
Thank you for your video. I wonder: the mix in my Thai constellation is so chunky, that I can actually not really put the sticks in soil. Would you just "hide" the sticks between the rocks? And second: I water a good amount of my climbers through their moss pole only. Do you have any tricks on that? Can't put a stick in there :) Thanks in advance!
I actually "sent a message into the universe" 🤣 yesterday. I said to my partner, "I'm gonna send a signal into the universe for a ladybug to come and help me". I did. And this morning.... 🤣🤣 I have ladybugs now.
Get some carnivorus plants, ideally cape sundew. They just need lots of light and rainwater or destilled Water. They are great at catching small insects and the remaining gnats will be less annoying because they serve as fertiliser for your sundew.
definitely not if you plan on consuming them 🙏 Also they're very toxic to both pollinators and aquatic organisms... Try predatory mites for thrips instead, much safer and they eat all the thrips
It's because it's too toxic and harmful to pollinators and aquatic organisms, and you have to treat soil and plant parts as hazardous waste after treatment as well which I guess not everyone does... But there is a much better solution, order "tripsrovkvalster" and possiby also complement with "oriusbaggar", they eat all the thrips (just keep any soaps or pesticides away from them as they would die too) and they do not cause any harm to the plant or its surroundings. I used them and they got rid of everything
Hortacultural.soap is not considered organic..but depends on your standard and what you want to consume. You dont spray this in flower either. Id wash your plants at min at harvest.
You method is very bad. Poisoning the plants and the environment and causing the insects to become resistant to chemicals. You definitely should check more nature-friendly solutions.
Awesome video, very helpful! Just so you know, nematode is the name for a specific group of many species of worms- en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nematode kind of like a really tiny earthworm. Some of them are beneficial predators, but they can have all sorts of different lifestyles and habitats from the ocean to mountains. They aren't insects (such as ladybugs) and it isn't a category for anything that eats pests, they're a specific evolutionary branch of creatures. Some even eat plants or tons of different things. Hope that is helpful!

Thank you for so much useful information!
I’m so glad this was helpful ! If you have any questions just let me know, I’m here to help 💚
Great video 😊🙌
Yay! Thanks for watching!
What is your recipe for the insecticide soap?
Hello Lucia, there are definitely thrips on my plants for many years. Nothing helped. But I have also some similar insects on the earth and some live under the pots on the balcony for example. What do you mean, could they be also thrips or something different??
Thank you
If they don't look like little flies with wings, they could be collemboles! They like to live in moist soil, so if possible slighy less watering, and saucers with airflow ridges help. But they don't really do much harm to mature plants. They can eat roots of tiny seedlings sometimes
I tried finding these on Amazon but I'm not seeing them in the United States. 😢 what's the next best thing??
Thanks a lot for this!
where can we buy that in US?
Fabulous video thank you!
Thank you! So happy you liked it :-)
Mine are and orange? Did you say black?
Thank you for your video. I wonder: the mix in my Thai constellation is so chunky, that I can actually not really put the sticks in soil. Would you just "hide" the sticks between the rocks? And second: I water a good amount of my climbers through their moss pole only. Do you have any tricks on that? Can't put a stick in there :)
Thanks in advance!
Have you tried this systemic solution on orchids? If so, has it worked?
I actually "sent a message into the universe" 🤣 yesterday. I said to my partner, "I'm gonna send a signal into the universe for a ladybug to come and help me". I did. And this morning.... 🤣🤣 I have ladybugs now.
Anything u can suggest for gnats ? Using sticky traps and vinegar soap solution already
Get some carnivorus plants, ideally cape sundew. They just need lots of light and rainwater or destilled Water. They are great at catching small insects and the remaining gnats will be less annoying because they serve as fertiliser for your sundew.
use mosquito bits.
how about citrus garden?
Can those sticks be use on cannabis plants..?
definitely not if you plan on consuming them 🙏 Also they're very toxic to both pollinators and aquatic organisms... Try predatory mites for thrips instead, much safer and they eat all the thrips
Systemic insecticide seems good, but unfortunately it's not available in Sweden anymore :(
It's because it's too toxic and harmful to pollinators and aquatic organisms, and you have to treat soil and plant parts as hazardous waste after treatment as well which I guess not everyone does... But there is a much better solution, order "tripsrovkvalster" and possiby also complement with "oriusbaggar", they eat all the thrips (just keep any soaps or pesticides away from them as they would die too) and they do not cause any harm to the plant or its surroundings. I used them and they got rid of everything
How to control thrips
How in the world these plants survive in the wild, boggles me.
When thrips turn brown does it mean they dying??
Hi! Most of the time brown thrips or darker ones are the adults. How is your plant now?
Canni use this product on my cannabis plants??
Hortacultural.soap is not considered organic..but depends on your standard and what you want to consume. You dont spray this in flower either. Id wash your plants at min at harvest.
You are the cutest human
Thank you for you video! Do you think the Substral sticks are ok too for more sensitive and small plants? I‘m scared it could be too much for them.
Get predatory mites instead of using pesticides, much safer and very effective
They attacked my car.
Neem oil.
these systemic pesticide sticks are no longer being sold
where do you buy your secret weapon?
💚
Stäbchen und viele andere systemischen Mittel sind mittlerweile verboten. Sehr ärgerlich, da bequem, ABER das Zeug ist wohl leider DNS-schädigend...
Weed
😮💚
TOXIC !!!
Wow your cute
JADAM WETTING AGENT ( jwa ) and Jadam microbial solution has worked very well in my garden. Easy KNF system to make.
