I am so glad I found this video!! Nobody could tell me what was wrong with my plants and from your description, I think thrips are my problem. Damaged new growth and the silver lines convinced me. I have to get that insecticide cause my whole collection has been affected 😢 Been spraying them down with neem oil and will continue but I can't let this happen again.
Oh no!!!! I'm so sorry! Hopefully with some intense showering and provanto you can get rid of the problem! Idk if I mentioned it in the video, but any super infested leaves I just remove now. Easiest way to get rid of them! 😂
Also, I learned today when plants are stressed they send out a signal that attracts insects but also send a signal to attract insects that will rid the bad pests. Interesting and helpful I thought.
This was a really great, helpful video. Unfortunately I have quite a few large and older plants that just started showing symptoms a few weeks ago! I didn’t want to drag out treatment, so I went ALL out- depotted everything, and sent them to the tub for rotating spa treatment of the shower hose and End All. I took all the old soil outside to dump in the garden bed and hopefully freeze to death, cleaned out all the pots, vacuumed, wiped, sanitized surfaces that the plants were near and on, then repotted everything with new soil, another end all treatment, then all the “clean plants” were sent to a quarantine room where no plants had been before, while I moved the next group to the bathroom, washing my hands between rooms. Then, to prevent the nymphs that fall to the soil from developing, nematodes went into all the tropicals, and diatomaceous earth into the ones that don’t like as much water. This all seems like extreme measures, but I wanted to do the most I could to eradicate the issue without resorting to pitching the plant. So after ALL of that, it seems like a day later I’m seeing even more chew hole/pocket/line things than ever, as if they came back with vengeance... I’m in Canada so we are limited on pesticides. But am wondering how it’s even possible during the most freezing month of the year they just showed up, and no new plants were introduced. Produce from the grocery store? Is it possible? So now I am at a loss of what to do next! Lady bugs? I feel like my cats would go on a destructive rampage to catch them hahah!!
🔵🔷 *I swear by Blue Sticky traps, they absolutely love them, the key is to hand them under the plants on the stems above the soil aswel as above them.. I caught loads of them when I had an outbreak. Great way to knock down the numbers quickly and the stickyness lasts for pretty much a year* 🔷🔷
I lost soooooo many plants to thrips. There seemed to be a few species of plants that they were drawn to. (Philodendrons, pothos, anthuriums, palms). I had a good collection of Philodendron varieties, and they pretty much all got the thrips. All of my anthuriums got them, and one of my palms currently has them. The best thing that worked for me sadly, was getting rid of the plant. I have pets and can't use toxic sprays. Other methods just don't work. I've pretty much had to get rid of the plant. Or risk it spreading to others. It's tough. Oddly, I have a money tree, and they just liked breeding in its soil, but never touched it's leaves. It was just a breeding spot. I used the yellow sticky traps on that, and it caught a ton of the newly winged thrips. They don't fly right away, so if you touch the sticky trap off edges of the pot, as they crawl around the pot, they get stuck on the traps.
Oh no!! Yeah I defo just binned some plants because I couldn't handle dealing with it at the time... it sucks for sure! Good to know about the yellow sticky traps for newly winged ones! Thanks for sharing that!
Just two days after my large schefflera started showing signs of reinfestation, my partner decided to-incomprehensibly and for the first time ever-move it out of its usual isolated spot into the front hall right next to my large, beautiful cane begonia. The plant’s leaves were totally entwined with the begonia’s. It’s too early to tell if my begonia (one of my most treasured plants) now has thrips! I am also reading that begonia leaves are sensitive to chemicals, so I just have to pray they didn’t transfer onto it despite touching a bunch of the leaves. 😭😭😭
Hi Good Growing girl, liked the video. Try Cinammon and garlic in powder. Also some 99% alchohol and a drop of neem oil. Repeat it every 3th day for two weeks. Also drop some cinammon powder on soil, the bugs of any tipe don't like the smell of it.
I've been battling for a while now and today, a major plant care day, I've found them on so many more plants than I originally thought. Time for the chemical sprays, I tried!
I have a thrip infestation that I noticed on my monstera in the bedroom a day ago. It's since been repotted, showered, sprayed with neem oil solution and locked up in the bathroom....two days later still more thrips! Today I've found some on my imperial green philodendron in the living room!!! Worst thing is...I'm going away for a month on Saturday morning arghhhhhh GOODBYE PLANTS!! I''ve ordered diatomaceous earth to put around the soil of all my plants, sticky tape to place around the flat and after watching your video, some Provanto! Finger's crossed I won't come back to a plant graveyard :(
Oh no!! Like I said in the video, just spraying with water and neem oil didn't do it for me and I would find them again a few days later. But honestly provanto was amazing! So if you get that and spray them all before you leave on your trip I'd say you should be alright with minimal damage. DE will be good too. You can sprinkle that on the soil as well as dust the leaves of your plants and that should help loads! Best of luck! You've got this!
You should try spinosad. Spinsosad is a natural insecticide, it’s a bacteria that’s non toxic to humans (unless you ingest like a gallon of it). And there’s multiple brands that sell it. It works extremely well. Nothing else I’ve tried has worked for thrips and they’ve never built immunity to it. I also use a systemic, which I think the one I use is natural, but it can’t be used for plants you eat. But there’s other systemics that are also good for crops.
Thank you thank you thank you! I came back from 2 weeks holiday just to be welcomed by thrips on all my aloe vera plants and was utterly clueless what to do. Just bought the Provanto spray.
Thank you! I’m gonna buy some tomorrow! I’m watching my 20 year plants die and they’ve had mites already this winter and moved after 10 years of same house AND these poor sweeties were alone in the first house I thought we would be moving to but fell through after a month and a half. My infestations terrible!!!!!! And if I don’t act fast they are gunners 😭. Never experienced any pests in 20 years but now I’m dealing w them all it feels like. Thank you for your help!

Oh no!! It can defo be a long hard process! And honestly that's why I turned to the big guns because I just couldn't keep up with them all... neem oiling, and spraying, and wiping every day. I know chemicals aren't the most fun thing to use but it's honestly so worth it! Good luck!
This was wonderful and helpful! I’ve got a huge infestation and currently filming my stuggles for a UA-cam video. Luckily I already bought the same mixture you suggest but didn’t have neem oil, but I’ve just bought it off Amazon now.
So glad I could help! Good luck getting your pest problem under control! Let me know how neem oil works for you! I found it didn't really help with the plants that had heavy infestations. Provanto was really the best thing
aaaaahhh just bought that Provanto you mentioned, I've been battling thrips for 3 weeks now and I'm freaking the f out because I have a monstera albo and a thai constellation and i don't want them to die :((
I just found thrips on my ficus umbellata... They keep coming back! I am so sick of them, I am now thinking of cutting back my plant collection. I hope thrips won't do that for me 😭 Thanks for the video!
Diatomaceous Earth is amazing!! Kills all pests ! I’ve never had any pests and it’s natural. I use it as a topsoil and work it in to my soil mix for new plants.
@@GoodGrowing ok I definitely jinxed myself. Gloriousum I bought from a seller came with an abundance of spider mites. I used hydrogen peroxide to kill them all at the sacrifice of two of the leaves. Just one leaf left standing but no mites 🫣😅
Great video thanks a lot Miss. I was desperately trying to place your accent so i could assume whether i would actually be able to buy the products you recommended, luckily i can. You sound American and English at the same time. American products seems to be very hard to get over here...
Oh no!! Yes stick with the soap! Wash the plant every day if you need to! Also you could do a hydrogen peroxide soak for the soil to kill any eggs or larvae that may have dropped down!
My big, precious monstera variegata has thrips on her and I'm so sad :( I'm pretty sure I bought her with the thrips and that sucks bc she was very expensive. She's way bigger than me and there are three plants in the pot and I was afraid that I'd have to shower her since there's a lot of advice that includes that on the internet. That's physically impossible for me the most I can do when it comes to that is move her to my garden and shower her there with the garden hose.. I thought it were watering problems at first but now it's obvious. I hope this will help me and thank you for all the information!
Oh no!!!! Hosing in the garden could work. Or you could go through and wipe all the leaves with soapy water like I did to get rid of any on the leaves. Then spray provanto to really get them dead! Good luck!
i found some on one of my favorite plant. it kept getting damage on some of the leaves and it wasnt in direct sunlight. before i knew that it had thrips i was doing a neem oil wipe to wash the leaves so i dont think it was too bad cuz of that but now im going to keep neem oiling them haha
I never use natural methods if I have an infestation, I have had it 2 times in 10 years, but still. Natural methods don’t work that well in my opinion, what I do is, I take my plants outside, put them in a large plastic bag and close the bag almost completely, than I spray a little Permethrin spray in the bag, close the bag and make a knot. Then I leave it for 30 minutes. Open the bag, and let it stay that way for 1 hour. Kills all insects and Permethrin is not as dangerous as many believe, don’t breathe it in, use a mask, and keep pets and children away! And than I shower my plants down with a lot of water. It works wonders.
Such great information and advice. I think I just have thrips on my monstera. I've already used a Neem oil spray which I'll continue with for a while but if the little critters aren't eradicated, I'm okay with using a chemical. You sound like you have a tiny bit of a UK accent... am I wrong?!! Thanks again.
Thrips is horrible. One of my beloved peppers, i had to cut it from its base. use pesticide and neem oil every other week alternate. i also repotted. Only a small part of the stem was left. It has been 2 weeks, but it started to grow ne leaves now. it is so heartbreaking to see my biggest pepper and what is left of it.
just placed an order for Provonto and I cannot wait to get rid of these bugs!!!! Like you I've noticed thrips for a few months now and have managed to infect so many plants! have been trying neem oil but I don't think it's working! Annoyingly I didn't know they could fly so i didn't put the infested plants too far away from those that weren't infested 😭wish me luck!
I don’t even have any house plants or plants outside just a grass garden. In the summer it is a nightmare for me because these thrips get inside my computer screens and tv and simply die and then I have tiny bugs stuck in my screen. I can’t have my windows open because they get inside and crawl all over the walls etc. Do I just spray the windows or the grass I want to get rid of these but they are everywhere 😭
Found this video after googling "im done with owning plants because of thrips" Been a plant ower for years but now I have a thrip problem that I can't solve. Ive had them for 7 months...they just killed my last favorite plant and im feeling discouraged about caring for whats left of my collection. Starting to think plastic plants are the way to go
Oh no!!! Yeah thrips freaking suck! I've had some on and off since this video and it's just awful! Whenever I notice them I immediately remove the plant (and any others in the area that are affected). I take off any really infested leaves and spray the whole thing with provanto (tops and bottoms of leaves, stems, soil, pot). It then lives in quarantine for a few weeks and I check on it regularly, spraying more provanto as directed/needed. It takes some patience and work for sure.
Really late reply, but just in case anyone wonders the same in future, I've been battling thrips the last 2 summers and not found any issues with the Provanto (though this summer am getting concerned that I've got some immunity, so will try another). It's not caused any issues to my monsterra, sansevieria, rubber plant, alocasia, palm plant, chinese money plant
at this point I only control them, I did not get rid of them and I honestly do not think I will ever again. but yes, pest control is the thing I ended up with, I do not have an other pests...
I just get a spray bottle, add distilled water (which I make using a pan and upside down lid), then add just a couple of drops of soap with a teaspoon of colloidal silver, to which I also add one or two of lavender and peppermint essential oil, then spray the plants every three days. Have to say it seems to have done the job...no more thrip attacks on the new growth! Cheers for the inspiration :)
When I got back from vacation I found a terrible thrip infestation on my huge deliciosa. I was not going to risk the rest of my plants for 1 as sad as it made me so I went hard. I sprayed it top to roots with ortho home defense 🙈 it's been 3 months and that one hasn't had thrips again but a lot of others have 🥴
Oh no!! It's possible that others had one or 2 thrips that went unnoticed compared to the big infestation on the monstera. Just keep treating them! I've had a few flare ups since this video but like you said, always on different plants, so I think that's pretty normal! You've got this!! Keep going!
Ahh yeah not with it for that price! I’ve heard US plant parents mention something called bonide to get rid of thrips? Maybe you could check that out? Never tried it though as it’s not available here
Hi. I just saw your vdo and ordered the Provanto. I have a serious thrips problem on my expensive houseplants. I'm getting so stressed 😫. Just wanna ask some questions. Does it damage the new growth leaves?, can you spray it all over the plants?, is it ok to have the plants inside the room (after being sprayed)? Thanks!
Hey! Oh no that sucks!! Good that you ordered provanto though! Sooo I think the best advice would be to test provanto on a small part of your plant to make sure it responds alright.... saying that I didn't do that and just went for it. I sprayed the entire plant (leaves, stems, soil, new growth) and then just left them in my bathtub to drip dry. Once they were dry, I put all the affected plants in a different room to the rest of my collection. Not sure if that was necessary as after the first spray, most of the plants didn't have thrips again, but probably better safe than sorry (especially if you have to spray some a couple of times). I didn't experience any negative impact on the new growth that wasn't already damaged by the thrips. I hope that helps! Good luck!!
I always spray my new plants with neem oil, but this time it does not work 😪 I found thrips family at my Calethea orbifolia... I used neem oil again after cutting all leaves and i changed all of the soil. I dont know if it was necessary. What do u think about it? Someone said that changing only the top of the soil is enough. But i can not trust that advice.
Great video. I've my first ever infestation in my cabinet 😪 When you say recheck your plants after each tried treatment. How do you know there're actually gone and treatment can finally stop 🤔🙈
I check my plants 5-7 days after each treatment to see if there are any signs of more thrips or hatched eggs or something. Even if I don't see anything after the first treatment, I'll defo treat again at least once, if not twice more just to be safe
@@GoodGrowing I'm just going to introduce predatory pest control as I'm not entirely sure how much of my collection has been infected, both inside and outside the cabinet. I have found a huge plant infected outside the cabinet as well as another inside one of my cabinets so not taking the risk. Going to treat each cabinet and outside also. Thanks for the reply and your videos are great. 😊
Provanto is a systemic pesticide and here in Sweden not possible to get a hand on. Too bad for me. I have to continue with the other methods. It's exhausting.
No I just went straight on with the provanto. Didn't want to risk washing some into the soil and then not killing them. I did spray all the leaves (front and back), stems, and soil
Hey tbh I’ve never heard of/used dead bug brew so I can’t comment on that but I still believe provanto is one of the best things to get rid of thrips, though it’s at the cost of your soils natural microbiome
I have a question for you if I may: I found a few thrips on my Philodendron Brasil in my frog vivarium. The thrips seem to prefer the Brasil over the Golden Pothos, by the way, as the Golden Pothos didn't have a single bug on it. I was wondering what you would suggest on how to get rid of them, seeing that I cannot use any pesticides, soaps or oil in a vivarium with frogs (White's tree frogs). The setup is bioactive (6-7 months old and established), with coco fiber as substrate, and large colonies of springtails and white tropical isopods as cleanup crew. Thus removing the soil will disturb the bioactive balance (kinda similar to messing up the nitrogen cycle in an aquarium), so it is something I would want to avoid if possible. So, how can I get rid of the thrips? Do I need to do a full breakdown of the vivarium and sterilize everything? Or would it be enough to remove all plants and leave it bare with only the soil in there until the thrips hopefully die of starvation (due to no living plants)? Do you have any thoughts or advice regarding this? I have searched the internet, youtube and reddit for answers but noone seems to have an actual answer. Until now I have uprooted and disposed of all the plants that I saw had thrips on them. The remaining plants might be attacked now that I have removed the thrips' homes, but I had no other choice. I have bought new plants but I do not dare plant them in the vivarium before I know what to do with this issue. Any tip or advice is greatly appreciated!
Oh no sounds like a lot of stress! I've also noticed that thrips tend to not like pothos... none of mine have been affected when many other plants have been. As for getting rid of them, might be worth looking into predatory mites. I got some recently from Dragonfli Ltd here in the UK and so far they seem to be working. Hopefully those would be the best to not upset your whole ecosystem. Would be worth seeing if they could help on a more preventative permanent bases as well and become part of the vivarium? Will be doing a video on predatory mites in the next month or so. I know that's a bit late for you but 🤷🏻♀
@@GoodGrowing Thanks a bunch for the quick reply! I will have a look at the predatory bugs for sure! The Minute Pirate Bug also seems to be an option regarding the war against thrips, but I need to figure out if any predatory bugs can go well together with frogs. Hopefully both bugs are available and legal to use here in the Netherlands. From what I've read and heard is that once you have thrips they are very difficult to get rid of. So I will do a full tear-down of the vivarium and start over, actually. But the real issue lies in getting rid of all thrips in the process. If only one bug survives then it was all for nothing. And that is where the predatory bugs comes into the picture. So I have thrown away all the old plants (rip) and bought new plants (no philodendrons this time, haha) which I have thoroughly rinsed with water after removing all the soil, and given them a 20 minutes soak to drown potential hitchhikers. I'll quarantine the plants for 4-8 weeks and in the meantime make a new setup with hardscape in the vivarium. The microfauna and beneficial bugs in the soil will be removed unfortunately, because of the life cycle of the thrips. Since they use the soil as a means to pupate I won't take any chances. It isn't the most beautiful process but it allows the frogs to stay in the vivarium in the process for the most part. Luckily the frogs are arboreal so they won't spend too much time on the ground.

I didn't want to because I am normally for natural fighting bugs against bugs, but none of the other methods has worked, not even nématodes, but I have a lot of plants, more than 100 I guess
Oh no! Some plants took a couple of doses of the provanto. I did it every few days and eventually that worked. I think the only restriction is you're not meant to do it more than 5 times. Can you keep your infected plants in a separate space to the others? that will help!

Omg I feel for you. I just discovered my thrips infestation and I'm in Canada too. No systemic. 🥺
I'm in Canada too and they were so bad for me this winter! No news plants either.
You could of soaked with water and hydrogen peroxide
🔵🔷 *I swear by Blue Sticky traps, they absolutely love them, the key is to hand them under the plants on the stems above the soil aswel as above them.. I caught loads of them when I had an outbreak. Great way to knock down the numbers quickly and the stickyness lasts for pretty much a year* 🔷🔷
Ooh good to know! I'll have to give that a try if I have another outbreak! Thanks
Or cut them into strips and wrap them around the base of the plant it stops them crawling up the stems
Where can you buy them, what are they called
"We want to keep everyone safe and not dead" Basically 2020 in a nutshell.
Thanks for this! My monstera is covered in these suckers. I didn’t realize they were bugs.
Oh no!! So glad I could help! Hope your monstera is doing alright now
Just two days after my large schefflera started showing signs of reinfestation, my partner decided to-incomprehensibly and for the first time ever-move it out of its usual isolated spot into the front hall right next to my large, beautiful cane begonia.
😭😭😭
Oh no! I hope your plants are okay! You could always do a test leaf with chemicals at the bottom somewhere to see if it doesn't like it. Good luck!!
Ah interesting! I’ll have to give that a go sometime thanks 😊
This was very helpful! I just realized I had thrips for the first time 😓
Oh no! That's the worst feeling! I hope you can get rid of them quickly!
Sticky tape is usually used in greenhouses to track pests, not too much for pest control.
I've been battling for a while now and today, a major plant care day, I've found them on so many more plants than I originally thought. Time for the chemical sprays, I tried!
It’s a tough call but honestly worth it! It’s the only thing that’s gotten them to properly go away for me! Good luck! You got this!
How did it go? 😊

@@hilaryjeb I see some moving after I looked at it a few hours later. You recon they will die soon?
How did they do?
OMG this video has made me itchy, I really hope those things stay away from my plants 🤞 🍃☘️🌿🌱
I feel you, I was feeling so itchy while editing with those photos in! I hope they stay away from your plants too! :)
I’ll try it thanks bro🙏🏽
Thank you thank you thank you! I came back from 2 weeks holiday just to be welcomed by thrips on all my aloe vera plants and was utterly clueless what to do. Just bought the Provanto spray.

Yes thrips absolutely love my monsteras!! Yeah hydrogen peroxide is great as a soil soak to kill any in the soil!

Good luck!
Have u tried the provanto on more sensitive plants like calatheas? I’m have a thrips infestation and most of my plants are calatheas 🙏🏻
i found some on one of my favorite plant. it kept getting damage on some of the leaves and it wasnt in direct sunlight. before i knew that it had thrips i was doing a neem oil wipe to wash the leaves so i dont think it was too bad cuz of that but now im going to keep neem oiling them haha
Get something stronger. Neem is useless
@@cadavercakes it’s actually good now but thanks
Yeah I've come to have the same opinion at this point... I know it's bad but I'd rather the pests gone! Thanks for the additional tips :)

I can’t have my windows open because they get inside and crawl all over the walls etc.

Hmmm I've never heard of that before. I'd say you could defo spray the grass and repeat according to the bottle directions until they're all gone
SOO HELPFUL! I will try ALL of these... thank you so much :)
Good luck!
Did you fine the big gun spray did any damage to any of your plants? If so which variety?
Really late reply, but just in case anyone wonders the same in future, I've been battling thrips the last 2 summers and not found any issues with the Provanto (though this summer am getting concerned that I've got some immunity, so will try another).
It's not caused any issues to my monsterra, sansevieria, rubber plant, alocasia, palm plant, chinese money plant
at this point I only control them, I did not get rid of them and I honestly do not think I will ever again. but yes, pest control is the thing I ended up with, I do not have an other pests...
Spray leaves with dishwashing liquid mix with water and wipe under and on top of leaves and put fly sticky tape on top of soil problem solved
Currently trying colloidal silver mixed in with castile soap...will let you know! Apparently they can't develop immunity to the silver...
Ooooh very interesting! Do let me know how it goes!
Would you mind sharing the ratio of colloidal silver:castile soap:water?
Keep going!

Good luck!!
@@GoodGrowing Thanks for the tips! I'll try that. You're awesome! 👍🏻

I have a question for you if I may:
I found a few thrips on my Philodendron Brasil in my frog vivarium.
Would you suggest removing soil and giving the plant new soil?? Or kinda just spray and hope it’s over?
You could repot in new soil, but if you're spraying anyways, you may not have to

TONS Sadly I only have a nice spider (2 separate babies in glass jar/bottle) a pothos cutting someone gave me that still in a glass, glass (that's awkward) and 3 small cactus I'm sure you can see I have more than some ppl but not nearly what I want!!! I remember a friend of mine had a potato plant and it had pretty purple heart leaves. I know Romain Will re~grow because I do that often (I'm regrowing one now in a 20oz coke bottle cut off)! I t doesn't live forever till I eat it! lol is there anything other than the "Avocado"? Is there a whole video in this? haha oh, ps have you ever hear of "Diatomaceous Earth"? All-natural ground-up seashells it slices up the pest's body the way I hear it! I'm sure you know all about it if you are all-natural.
Ooh good idea! I have just posted an avocado pit growing video but I can defo do some more :) Wow sounds like you have a good collection going there!
As for diatomaceous earth, I have heard of it yeah! I've been thinking of getting some for a while! Thanks for the tip! :)
My classmate asking when we were studying about "how plants depend on animals" She asked "what r thrips"- Tiny bUgs tHat will ruin your garden of plants :>
Hahahah! EXACTLY!

Oh no! Maybe have a look for something called bonide? I think that may be the equivalent
Spinosad ... Captain Jack's Dead bug brew concentrate has it.
Great vid appreciate the help 👍
Glad I could help! Thanks for watching :)
Good Growing So...... When is the spider mite video going to drop 😁 J/K any suggestions though?
@@a1budz871 Hahah luckily I haven't had issues with spider mites yet! But when I do, you best believe I will make a video ;)
What’s the difference between provanto and other insecticides?
I'm not too sure but it's probably a specific ratio of chemicals. All I know is that it worked reallllllly well for me and many others in the battle with thrips
I DID NOT KNOW THRIPS COULD FLY.
Terrifying huh!
It looks like Provanto isn’t available in the US. Does anyone know of a product with the same ingredients?
I've heard Bonide is a similar product in the US
@@GoodGrowing Thank you!
How I got rip of gnats just mix cinnamon in ur soil it works well for my plants😊
thanks for sharing
Thank you sooo much!!!
Does neem oil kill them ?
Neem oil can suffocate the living ones but it won't kill the eggs. I tried using neem every few days and it didn't solve my problem at all...
Thank you!!!!!
I can't find probably
I can't get provanto in the US
Hmmm I heard about this stuff Bonide that I couldn't find in the UK, maybe its available in the US? Also not sure if it works in the same way but it probably helps!
@@GoodGrowing thank you so much
Thank you ❤
Hi could I use this on cannibas plants please
I really don't know much about cannabis plants sorry...
any way to get provanto in canada? or is there anything similar here?
Hmm I'm not too sure if you can get provanto there. But I'm sure there must be an alternative. I've heard bonide systemic works well and I think that is a US product so maybe you could get that where you live?
A lot of insecticides are not allowed in Canada sadly. That includes Provanto and Bonide
@@SohiHien Oh no!! Yeah I've heard Canada has some pretty strict laws about that. Have you asked in a local houseplant facebook group? I find those can be useful to see what other plant parents use in your area/country. Good luck!
what can i get in the US .... damnit
