Thanks for uploading this classic. This was probably one of their more coherent performances from back then. By '85, Ness was a complete disaster. He sobered up for good that fall, and thankfully was able to make some of the classic hits we remember Social D for today!
Actually Mike is sober here. I found him at a hospital detoxing 3rd week of February 1985 and suggested he stay the free 30 day program they offered him. ( I was 2.5 years sober then) He was just released maybe a week before this show. He relapsed in the fall of 85 and immediately after a few days in jail has now been sober ever since. 3 weeks after this show he opened for Joan Jett at UCLA. It was one of the only times he did The Stooges Search and Destroy.
The fact that record companies f-ed up signing a lot of the bands back in the early 80’s explains a lot about why they went so heavy on the Seattle Grunge scene. The SoCal punk movement was special. It was music by young people, for young people and it was fucking timeless. I’m an old Punk and I feel like Social D is as timeless as Led Zeppelin, Beatles, Doors, Rolling Stones etc. All those band achieved world wide fame and Social D achieved modest fame bands like Social D are way more important and influential in my life than Led Zeppelin or the Beatles ever were. On a personal level they’re up there with The Rolling Stones.
Hey that's big Tony at the very beginning with his mohawk hanging out with those chicks begging for money to get in which was super common for a lot of us youngsters trying to get in
Suicidals didn’t really fuck with skins and boot boys back then even in around 86 or 87 my mom went to a slayer show and suicidals and the skins were going at it all night
The chugga, chugga guitar at the end of Its the Law sounded really cool 😎!! They shoulda done more of that!
back when Social D. were a punk band. I love this
